The Cesspool of USAID

Elon Musk described what they have found at USAID as (and I paraphrase) not a worm in the apple, but a bowl of worms.

You probably all know by now that Elon Musk’s DOGE team has paused all operations at USAID and locked the doors while their investigation is being conducted. Why?

When members of Elon Musk’s DOGE team try to get into the USAID building to examine the books, directors and employees physically blocked them from accessing their computer systems.

They were willing to risk going to jail rather than let anyone audit their books. They may end up going to jail anyway, based on everything that DOGE has discovered.

“USAID is a criminal organization,” tweeted Musk. “Time for it to die.”

Read on The Conservative Zone:

Once Upon a Time, Elon Musk Turned Over a Rock in Washington, DC…

What Musk has now uncovered is the fact that tons of high-profile American political figures and government employees have been using USAID as a piggy bank to enrich themselves and their family members.

Sadly, this includes some Republicans. Want to become fabulously wealthy in Washington, DC? Just start an NGO.

Bill Kristol is the President of an NGO called “Defending Democracy.” That NGO has been the recipient of $46 million in taxpayer money, which has been used to smear Donald Trump for the past decade.

An NGO called the National Democratic Institute has also raked in gobs of taxpayer cash. Its directors include familiar names like Barbara Mikulski, Tom Daschle, and Stacey Abrams.

The International Republican Institute appears to be its GOP counterpart. Its directors include a large number of current and former Republican Senators. You’ll recognize most of their names: Mitt Romney, Lindsey Graham, Joni Ernst, Dan Sullivan, Tom Cotton, Kelly Ayotte, and Mark Kirk.

[…] Now that USAID’s books have been made public, it’s stunning to see how much fraud, waste, and abuse is directly connected to current and former members of the US Congress. The National Endowment for Democracy has raked in $1.6 billion in grants from USAID. The Institute for International Education has received $640 million from the taxpayers. The Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening has taken $528 million.

Members of Congress are protesting in opposition outside the USAID offices and the Treasury, even suggesting that the public should “take to the streets”, just as Hakeem Jeffries did in opposition to the recent and different actions by Customs & Border Patrol to stop illegal immigration and deporting of criminal illegal aliens.

USAID was formed as a result of Executive Order by JFK, and can be ended or changed by Donald Trump in the same way. As for Representative Jamie Raskin’s claim that the President can’t touch funding to USAID, I found this on (of all places) Wikipedia’s entry about the Foreign Assistance Act:

“Under the authority of the [F.A.] Act on March 16, 2022, President Joe Biden authorized $800 million in new security assistance to Ukraine.”

If Joe could do that with a stroke of his pen, Trump can investigate, or even freeze aid.

The funding is approved by Congress, but the way USAID spends it can be investigated by the President and his representatives, which is why USAID is now under supervision by the State Department.

As a result of the dangerous agitation by members of Congress, Elon Musk and his software engineers are targeted for violence – even death.

And against the President.

In response to a question, in this video Marco Rubio explains what is going on with USAID, and what should be its purpose:

This is a 90-day freeze, which allow us to now review programs. You know before we did the freeze we couldn’t find out anything about some of these programs. USAID, in particular, they refused to tell us anything. ‘We won’t tell you what the money’s going to, where the money’s for, who has it, which contractor’. You know in some cases it goes through four different contractors before it reaches the intended recipient.

These are not my numbers. These are USAID’s numbers. In some cases, with USAID, 10, 12, 13%, maybe less, was actually reaching the recipient, and the rest was going into the overhead and the bureaucracy. This isn’t my money – this is taxpayer money.

So, we’re not going to eliminate foreign aid. We’re going to have foreign aid that makes sense. We’re going to have foreign aid that works. We’re going to have foreign aid that furthers the national interest. We’re going to have foreign aid that benefits our trusted partners and our allies.
