Don’t laugh. I’m one of those who has a sticker over my laptop camera. Now it seems that is a really good idea! Instagram (and others, including Reddit, LinkedIn, TikTok) are listening and watching you when they shouldn’t be.
They have promised user privacy and guess what? They lied.
Ironically, it seems that Apple (via an upgrade to their I-Phone operating system) is responsible for blowing the whistle.
My newest computer came with a slide thingy on top to open or close the camera. I closed it before I even plugged it in for the first time. I don’t know what to do about my phone. I sometimes wish I could just drop it down the loo!

I put a sticker on my Kindle camera too, and I’m tempted to do it on my phone, but make it easily removable.

You’ve always suspected that was true…
we always knew it was true.
There are no cameras here anywhere at all, since at least 2008 iirc.
Went without a phone for well over a year; the Trump Campaign 2016 required me to have a phone, so Wicked Son gave me an old iPhone which camera was immediately covered with duct tape, and remains there to this day. (poor phone normally sits in a drawer as well)
(covering the microphone is a really big hassle, though. seems no one can hear you talk with no microphone…)
But, no worries. I always wear my rubber-soled shoes when wearing tin foil 😉

I always wear clothing, and am as boring as possible in conversations. And, I remember what got Nixon because I lived through it.

As soon as school districts began providing their students with computers, tablets, etc, there were revelations about children being on a monitored camera every time they were around the device. Everything a kid does on his device, it goes int a file for targeted ads.
If you have a laptop computer, close it when you are not using it. I turn mine off when not using it for longer periods of time. Any device from the devices I mentioned to smart TV’s computerized thermostates, baby cams can and will be hacked.

Microsoft caused problems for me because I would not activate Skype 24/7, I had my grandson remove it from my computer.

Good advice, glen.
Have ya beat in neurosis, though. My cable modem is turned off and fully disconnected when not in use, as is my puter.
(my cable guy flipped out at my home wiring handiwork lol)
