Today’s Sousa march is the one that so aptly fits Independence Day, The Stars & Stripes Forever. It was written on Christmas Day, 1896, first performed near Philadelphia on May 14, 1897, and following an Act of Congress in 1987, it was officially adopted as the national march of the United States of America. Whenever I hear it, it almost makes my heart burst with pride!

The most touching tribute to our flag and our country that I think I ever saw was at Buckingham Palace in London on 9/11/01, when they played our National Anthem. Just think of that – British military playing a song that commemorates a battle that they lost as a tribute to a sister country.

I just read that this is the only time that another country’s national anthem has been played outside Buckingham Palace, apart from during state visits. Her Majesty the Queen personally authorized the Guards to break protocol and play this, to give some comfort to Americans stranded in London due to airport closures.

    The National World War Two Museum in New Orleans held a swearing-in ceremony for 52 new citizens of the US. They’d completed the long process of learning IUS history, how the government worked, completed an in-depth background check – you know, the legal way of becoming a citizen

    The Democratic mayor of the non-sanctuary city of New Orleans did not attend. Then again if the citizens of New Orleans had to take the same citizenship test few would pass it, and whereas the new citizens have to be literate to a degree the city still has a natural-born-citizen functional illiteracy rate hovering around 30%

    The Shape of Things to Come.

    Today I had to go to a huge national big-box store that shall go unnamed. GGS in hand I marched through the store, trying to guess their marketing plan but was unsuccessful in my hunt for turkey/chicken stuffing. Seeing a stocking clerk loading the shelves I stopped to ask if he knew where the stuffing was. “Stuffing?”, he replied with a noticeable accent. “Stuffing”, I said again, “You know, the bread stuffing you put inside of turkeys or chickens?”.

    Blank look.

    “Ahh, bread, is over there”, he said, pointing to the back of the store.

    Smiling I said: “No, no ‘bread’, the stuffing is made from bread, you put it inside of a turkey or chicken before you bake it.”. A quizzical from the clerk…”You put inside a chicken?”.

    About then I figured it was time to cut my losses, I smiled thanked him for his help and moved on. Ironically the entire conversation occurred about three feet away from a huge tortilla display…wonder if tortillas make a good stuffing?

    Earlier it was announced in passing on RSBN that the military generals who were scheduled to participate in today’s celebration have pulled out and will not attend!!! What’s up with that? Afraid they will look partisan? Hate the President? Are part of the Deep State that plans to overthrow President Trump? Or are they joining in with the WaPo in believing that our President has “taken over the 4th”?

    Anyone heard anything about this?

      The above is Long Beach, CA Harbor and the Queen Mary convention center. My parents were at the harbor in 1967 when the Queen sailed for the last time into her permanent berth.
