      Thank you, Lucille! This made me so homesick! I miss living there so much. We lived just north of Edinburgh, near Dunfermline where the rest of Robert The Bruce is buried. His tomb is underneath a polished brass floor-stone directly beneath the hand-carved pulpit. St. Margaret is also buried there. You can’t swing a dead cat by the tail in Scotland without hitting history.

      I like the second house best, but I would buy the third in a heartbeat. The land would get me.

      I don’t like how they have such big houses and never any bed rooms on the main floor. How many “reception” rooms do you need? Anyhow, that was my favorite one yet, thanks Lucille.

    Here’s a challenge for all ya’ll today: what was the best Christmas present you ever gave someone?

    In 1977 my sister & her husband brought his teenaged daughter to celebrate Christmas with our family at my mom’s house in Miami. My youngest brother wanted the young woman to have a nice present, but feared he could not think of something she would like. So I took him to the mall and we shopped around, but he was not satisfied with anything until I picked up a light blue, knitted shawl with fringe and threw it around my shoulders. He wasn’t sure that was just the thing, but I convinced him otherwise, and helped him wrap it. When she opened the gift she was so happy, and she wore it constantly until they left. The best gift I ever gave was helping my brother to pick out that shawl, because he got as much joy out of the gift as she did!

      When I volunteered with The Starlight Foundation, I had a fake Christmas tree I firmly attached unbreakable ornaments onto, stuffed it in the back of my Explorer, along with decorations, donated gifts, and trays of Christmas red & green jello I made (That was the only food allowed in some of the pediatric wards. I still get nauseous from the smell of jello). I along with a couple of volunteers and another dressed as Santa (sometimes with an elf) would then go one each day or night to 5 of the major Boston hospital pediatric wards, taking the decorated tree and gifts etc. out, and giving it to the children. The happiness and look on their faces was indescribable, and to this day brings me to tears.

      My ex, paid for her schooling. Everything was paid for, She did not owe a dime. She did graduate with honors.

      She’ll be flustered that I said this but my best Christmas present was and still is Czarina.
      We knew each other in passing for a few months before but that was about it, passing friends.
      A mutual friend invited me to a Christmas party at his house and, despite other issues going on, I accepted. I walked into his house and for some reason lookjed to my right and there, by a bay window, was Czarina sitting and talking with another guy. I’ll swear to this to my grave but right then and there I clearly heard a little voice in my head that said: “You will marry her”. I didn’t even really know her but…
      Things moved quickly after that, there we further harbingers of our joint fate such as her smashing the $%#@& out of my finger with a concrete block as we scavenged at a construction site, her amazing her friends by her letting me use her Triumph while she was away and our bonding over her ruined gravy saved. Now, some 40 years later, here we are.

      Over the years there have been a lot of memorable Christmases, but probably my first one celebrated in Los Angeles 1963 holds a special place. It was so exciting, as a country girl, to be in the big city…all the wonderful decorations, the Christmas concerts, and huge congregations at Christmas Eve church services.

      Some gals I met at church had become fast friends, and we exchanged presents. For one friend I chose a bust sculpture of a Chinese man dressed in 19th Century garb. She loved everything Chinese and had planned to become a Presbyterian missionary to China via Hong Kong. She was so delighted, and treasured that sculpture, keeping it in her home after she married several years later, having laid aside her first ambition. We remained friends until she passed away this year at age 82.

    Stella there is an interesting story about this painting, but even after cutting it down, it is 8 small paragraphs long. Is that too long to post here?

      You know what I can’t stand about Twitter? Click anywhere, anywhere at all on the screen, and what you’re looking at all goes bye-bye. I can click on the sidebar here and nothing happens at all. On Twitter, if I accidentally hit my right mouse button, I better have my hand near the Escape key, because clicking anywhere on the page makes the whole page go bye-bye, gone forever. Seriously, how many SJWs does it take to make a website suck as much as Twitter? If you have a heavy mouse-finger, you better have a left hand close to the Escape key. Because any other action you take will make the entire page go bye-bye. At Stella’s Place or any other site on the entirety of the internet, I can click all day long on any part of the page and nothing happens at all. On Twitter, be careful where you click, with either mouse button, because the entire page is likely to go bye-bye.

      Who on earth hires these people and why? Because they have purple hair and multiple piercings and tattoos and not because they can make things work?

    Good morning everyone! Very busy on multiple fronts and not sleeping much, or well. Spending last 2 weekends cleaning another house where the contractor allowed a homeless woman to squat. Took me 9 hours to clean 2 bathrooms, ceiling to floor, and I feel it. Now cleaning at home today. Prob groceries later. Somewhere in there santa has to wrap presents.

        I woke up at 5. Couldnt get back to sleep so started laundry and getting a chance to post and peruse. Too much happening in every realm it seems to stay informed and still do things here. Kiddo started vacation on friday, which I didnt understand until Thursday afternoon! We went to knotts on monday for a family day so he had a 3 day week.
        So, I took him to see the grinch finally on friday. FYI, regal/edwards/united artists thesters were bought out by a uk based company and now you are forced to choose a seat at purchase.
        They are going to close and remodel my local theater. I think they will charge more depending on the seat. If I but online, they charge a fee. We hardly go to the movies, but its a bummer.

    Ouch, ouch ouch…good day, three-plus hours of clearing brush. Great weather, dogs ‘helped’ and the outside cast spent most of the time with us, protecting us from and rampaging, edible rodents intent on visiting mayhem on us. Strangest thing to have cats that come over and work with you.
