I saw an article that said, essentially, “happy music makes people work better and harder”. I know the truth of this first-hand. It’s true.
The difference in mood in the kitchen when we put on soul and Motown and Jack Johnson and John Mayer Trio, Aloe Blacc and Avicii, Mumford & Sons and Doobie Brothers…
versus modern R&B (garbage anger porn) and rap (same), or Metallica, or Infantile Whine Against the Machine (RATM), anything popular in the 90’s, or Eminem (white anger porn rap)…
We play a lot of the good, and none of the bad. Front of the house gets to listen to Madeleine Peyroux on the Pandora. Lucky upper crust. The kitchen’s music is always better, and the FOH staff always tell us that when they’re milling about in the kitchen and doing nothing especially useful. “Yep. Our music rocks. Yours is Muzak™. Go serve the customer, pack animal.”

Knew a guy we called Captain Mike. 1997/8. Gruff “older” guy, big beard, big laugh. He was a tugboat operator in the Chesapeake bay for many years before he felt the calling to go work as a mechanic in the mountains of New Hampshire, at a farm for and by Christians called His Mansion. He maintained and fixed everything mechanical on that farm, the year I was there. A beautiful man.
He said when he was driving up to NH, answering the Call, he stopped at a rest area, and his friend for many years was sitting on the closed tailgate of his pickup, a bright parrot like the one above, and when he came out of the head (as it were) and started walking back to the truck, he saw a raptor bird of some kind swoop down and snatch up his friend, never to be seen again.
He was sad, but he took it as a sign. A tugboat captain working and living on a farm in the mountains. Heh.
I’ll never forget that year of my life.
I work alongside atheists, Statists, publicans, and wannabe foreign diplomats, SJWs, and MSM slaves.
For that one year I worked alongside Christians. All the time. Logging. Escapee-chicken herding. Worshipping God with music.
I hope Captain Mike is still kickin’. 1997 was 20 years ago. And that’s hard to believe.
And I hope his parrot escaped.

My husband builds tugboats. He started working at the shipyard in the summers as a boy, and now he runs the crews that build the boats. He loves it very much.

It’s funny that I live in a resort town with a river and a Great Lake, and a population that more-than quadruples in the summer months that has more boats in slips than cars in parking spots… and I know everything about kitchens, enough to want to leave, and have no clue about the water, or boating, sailing, parasailing, or even sunbathing. And it’s right next to me.
Last night there were storms on the horizon, very late in the A.M., so I walked halfway there with my Lightning Camera app opened, and when I got to the deck, a quarter way to the beach, the lightning had ceased. Maybe next time.
I would like to build tugboats. I’m at home in a kitchen, but tired and sore. I love kitchens and the whole industry, but yeah. I wish I was logging in NH or building tugboats right about now. Many years. Lotta years.
I last swam in Lake Michigan when I had to bathe there, because that was my only option, many years ago. homeless.
As a young’un, I bodysurfed, every storm. Daring the Lake to pummel me. A couple of times it did, and I got ground into the stones by the wave.
One time, when we were in our early teens, we local hillbillies were romancing these local girls, were about to build a campfire, and a storm came in, and the girls ran the steps to their parents’ cabin, and we ran 3/4 mile through the woods, along a dirt two-track fire lane, without even time to put our shoes on. Lightning was striking right next to us, the whole run, and being Michigan woods, was pitch black, and we only knew where to run by long memory. Halfway home, running in the rain and hellacious lightning and thunder, we boys all screamed, when lightning struck 10 feet from us. We all screamed again when we encountered a huge tree that was blocking the path we knew so well, because it had fallen in the storm we were running from!

Some years ago the Navy had one of its aluminum-hulled destroyers on a port call in NOLA. It was early in the AM, ship was tied up to the docks downtown and crew was asleep onboard.
Now, ocean-going ships have to fight the river currents as they manage the currents and the turns in the river. They aren’t built to take a lot of that kind of stress and it ain’t unusual for them to lose steering or engine power. This morning the freighter was going downstream through the city and lost its steering. The river was high and fast, the current caught the ship and started pushing it straight at the destroyer.
The pilot on the freighter starts blowing the collision alarm on the ship’s horn and broadcasting on the harbor’s emergency channel. He knows that if that freighter hits that destroyer it will slice it in half and send it right to the bottom, crew and all. Luckily there are tugs plying the harbor whp heard the horn and broadcast and they headed straight to the ship.
The tug drivers knew that the shop was too big, moving too fast and was in a strong current, they couldn’t stop or turn it, not enough time/room, but they could at least slow it down. Traveling at high speed they rammed the ship and kep pushing it at full throttle, they slowed the ship enough so that when it did hit all it did was put a huge deck-to-waterline dent in the ship’s hull. The destroyer remained intact and aside from bumps and bruises the crew was unhurt.
Never will say a bad thing about tugs.

I was an AB (among other things) on a world class tugboat for 13 years between Seattle and every port in Alaska. And even some places that didn’t have ports, we off-loaded with helicopters. That was hard work, great crews, excellent chow and the best office views I ever had was the Inside Passage.

Indeed.
126 years ago, my temporary home at Stella’s Place was invented.
I wish the rapper 50 Cent had just gone with the moniker “Half Dime”.
In 1986, I recovered that lovin’ feeling. Top Gun was amazing.
In ’92, I voted for the short crazy guy with all the charts and graphs and dialectic, not understanding at the time that most people are idiots, and only understand rhetoric.
The Beach Boys are more respected by the old rockers than most people understand, because, as I’ve noted, most people are idiots.
In 2013, Bill Gates regrets saying in 1981 that 640 kilobytes of RAM oughta be enough for anyone. In 1981, my PC had 2k of RAM. And a membrane keyboard. And cost more than a new car.

Wings cover. Good one by a band I normally can’t stand, Foo Fighters, from their amazing album of covers, Medium Rare:
I wish they would quit screaming and just do covers from now on. Their original music is terrible. Their covers are great reinterpretations.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I hope they come out with two more albums, at the very least. Call them Medium Well and Well Done, all covers of songs. I wish Dave Grohl would realize that he can cover so much existing genius with his, and that his own writing can’t compare, and that that’s why he does such good covers. Astounding covers.
I really cannot stand the Foo Fighters’ music. If I want someone screaming at me, I’ll listen to anything from the 90s, or Eminem, or Rage Against the Machine that Made Us Millionaires and Allows Us to Scream at The Government While We Advocate Cuba.
Except this one album of covers.
Baker Street. Best cover, ever. Better than the original.

My father liked Vienna sausages, potted meat, sardines, bologna fried in a cast iron skillet…. My brothers & I would sit out in the far back corner of the yard & eat sardines with him by the trash cans (Mama would not let us eat the smelly things any closer to the house!). Czar lets me keep Spam in the pantry for hurricane food, & occasionally he makes my favorite pinto beans with Spam.

This article was good, but I would put it in the category of “even a broken clock is right twice a day.” Ben Sasse is a HUGE disappointment to me. Right up there with Jeff Flake, and for the same reasons. Big never-Trumper. His mentor and bestie in the Senate is John McCain. Says nasty things about Trump at every opportunity. Sasse and McCain wrote a pompous letter to the new US Trade Representative Lighthizer explaining why they couldn’t vote to confirm him: he might not do the right thing and give NAFTA the credit it deserves. I am so disappointed that I contributed my hard-earned dollars to Ben Sasse’s campaign. Wish I could have them back.

Fascinating:
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=nation
“Nation” is a word with the same etymological roots as “prenatal”, “natural”, “native” and “nativity”.
Etymology is a tool of the fascist patriarchal Christofascist hegemony, though.
Because, Science! or something. Never mind what words actually mean. Our “nation” is in the quick process of becoming Not America, bit by bit. Parts of Minnesota are now Somalia. Parts of Eastern Michigan and Northern Virgina and Austin, TX, are becoming the nations that are Not America, because most people are idiots, and we brought in and fed and bathed another nation.
The preamble to the U.S. Constitution mentions “our posterity”. Not everyone on Earth’s posterity. Ours. Who were the signatories? Where were they all from? What is meant by the term “our” in this sense?
Words have meaning. Unless you’re a Progressive.

Remember when Reagan was inaugurated, and he immediately proceeded to fire all the striking air traffic controllers?
Now. Imagine being the new POTUS, and wanting to fire everyone in the NSA, FBI, CIA, and the rest of the sub-intel agencies attached to the EPA, the FDA, the NEA, the IRS, and every other government agency whose members define “Deep State”.
What do these people know, and what can they do, and what have they already done from within to ensure they can do what they want, in the instance that they are ever fired? They are human killswitches. They know too much to fire. Best just to take them out to the NJ Turnpike and get out and take a leak.
Trump isn’t that bad (by which I mean “bada**”), though. He’ll even let Hillary skate. All her crimes, against both law and humanity. He will. Even as she is engineering new ways to commit evil as we speak.

Hillary is the least of his worries right now. The Swamp that is DC has been built over the last 40 years! There is no way of knowing for sure who the enemy is. Just assume they all are. I never thought for one minute that President Trump could fix everything. I think we have to take our wins where we can get them and pray the losses don’t destroy our country.

We’re realists like that.
I never thought for one minute that President Trump could fix everything.
Me, neither. I voted for him, though. Voting for a candidate does not mean the voter believes the candidate is the Almighty or the Messiah.
Unless you’re a Democrat.

Or some of those people next door who think you must simper and sigh and proclaim the President a saint. I like him, I think he’s doing an amazing job under unbelievably horrid conditions in that cesspool called D.C., but I am not going to always agree with him and worship him. Furthermore the instant attacks and calls of troll disgust me. I can’t see the difference between them and the Hillary people, not one bit.

We lost a lot when we lost a world like this. I think kids were much better off when they had such powerful influence from extended family in their lives. It kind of reminds me of ZM’s comments from Mothers Day.

Growing up one of my best friend’s mom had a Myna bird. It was hysterical and its squawk could raise the dead. It had a large vocabulary but I think the thing that cracked us kids up the most was when it would say “Get me a beer!” followed by a long squawk and then “Get your own beer!”.

We thought he (or she I can’t remember) was fantastic. You should hear how loud they can squawk. They tried putting a cover over its cage but it would just squawk until they took it off.
It could bark just their dog 🙂

City’s setting up barricades around the Gen P. T. Beauregard monument as if they’re ready go tear it down next. City’s rushing as there’s a bill rushing thru the state legislsture that would prevent jurisdictions from removing military monuments or memorials. Bootlicking Rat governor is expected to veto it, giving city further time to rewrite history but legislature will probably overturn his veto.
Questioning city council as to whether, as they are so intent on removing every trace of the Confederacy or anything touched by the Confederacy, that the city will stop allowing the state to sell Louisiana Lottery tickets inside the city limits as P. T. Beauregard was very instrumental in establishing the Lottery after the Civil War.
Still jo answer from the Council as to whether they’ll give us warning if they decide to remove the Vietnam Memorial as it glirifies gun violence, an unpopular war with the Liberals and was heavily fought by minorities who served in numbers over their representation in society.

It breaks my heart to see history being destroyed! All because some morons that have no idea what the Civil War was really about, “has a sad”

I barely watch it anymore. Newest attack on President Trump via Drudge is that PDJT asked Comey to just let Flynn go and not pursue an investigation.
Comey is a very dangerous man he is a chameleon.
Expect a lot of dung to hit the fan, MSM is trying to get Seth Rich’s unsolved murder and Wikileaks contacts squashed.

I’m switching over to old Disney movies. I watched two movies last night, don’t think they were Disney, but they were about everyday people during WWII. One was called Little Riders, the other was A Friendship in Vienna. It was amazing to watch as the people went from “it can’t happen here” to “OMG, it IS happening” Made me think about what could happen here if the Swamp can’t be drained.

Excellent, prescient book. Written before Hitler came to power. Before Orwell made his prescience known to the world. Before Kafka. Before Orwell. And some time after John of Patmos.

Some good info on black slave owners: http://www.theroot.com/did-black-people-own-slaves-1790895436
Note that blacks could also own white indentured servants and how early blacks could own slaves on the New England colonies…not to mention how the New England colonies had legal slavery until it was no longer needed in the economic arena though these same states kept their racist laws over black citizens well into the early 1800s. Guess as they became more progressive the reactionary racists all moved south, bought plantations, ate grits and went about awhompin’ the field hands.

Lincoln destroyed all of their jobs in the South with his Emancipation order…..they had a place to live, clothes and food and they had to work for it. When they were free…they had no home, clothes or food unless they worked for the same guy that owned the plantation, and he paid them only as a sharecropper…no crops or sales…no money…no wonderful free life. Lincoln fixed up 4 million illiterate black folks in one fell swoop, and only had to let 600,000 white folks die fighting to let these folks lose their jobs and safety.

Joshua, some of this is accurate, but slavery is never a good thing. Bottom line.

Woo Hoo! Just got the call, Czarina’s ‘firearm with 14″ barrel that fires shot shells” (ATF says it is NOT a shotgun) is in! She’s just gotta remember to lock those wheelchair wheels when she fires…it’s a loooooong way down hill.

Taurus Judge of S&W Governor are pistols that fire 410 rounds…pretty good for close range self defense, I think.
LikeLike
Yup, not impressed by them…one of our deputies was shot by a .410 derringer firing a slug in ’93. Hit him in the leg from about three feet away and he was back up and walking, albeit in a cast, in a week.
Problem is thst shotshells use a low pressure, slow burning powder and the slug/shot string just can’t work up the oomph in a short barrel, not enough room to get a solid burn.
You can shoot .45 long Colt in those pistols and it’s a better choice in defense.
The Aguila ammo company makes a good 1.75-inch 00-buckshot round thst has good ballistics, they use a slightly faster burning powder I’m told. I can fit a few more of them than I can standard shells and ballistics within the range the Mossberg’s designed to work in are great. In a tense situation Czarina doesn’t have to be precise in aim, the psychological value of that action opening and closing and the visual of the shortie…gotta be impressive if you’re on the hole end.

James Risch (R-ID) was on FOX’s The Story tonight and he said the real story is according to him, is that whoever leaked this info on the Russian meeting is a traitor. It was a very good interview.

Also, on The Story, Eric Lund, the jerk, said (with a smirk on his face) that he knows one of the two people who leaked the story of the classified info and Russia. He said they are two of Trump’s supporters who think he doesn’t listen to them. ????????????? 😕 That makes no sense to me at all. If true, and their names come out, which I think they will if he knows who it is, they can be charged with a felony.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu. We pray for France, and for the safety of Marine Le Pen.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
