Wheeeeeeeee! Been getting seed catalogs for about three weeks now, am ordering seeds in anticipation of pkanting, fighting weeds and insects. Soil tests next week, spraying to kill down winter weeds and some weed cutting tomorrow. Ahhhhh, that season where expectations overrule reality.

Yeah, used to be a few places in Ogden Canyon in Utah where we could ice climb. An old compant named Mountain Safety Research used to make top notch equipment. Founder’s son was a climber and was killed by some bad equipment so he started his own company and made stuff he built, tested and trusted. Expensive but not as expensive as a failure climbing.
Ahhhhhhh…the days before marriage, kids, mortgages…

I liked ice more than rock, invariably there was more ice than rock and those big ice screws gave you a sense of security. Then they went to the ‘clean’ rock climbing and free climbing, I went to the bar and KFC too much and found climbing into an easy chair preferable.
Used to be some great places up the Salt Lake City Cottonwood Canyons to rock climb but it’s been decades since I was there and they’ve probably got gas stations, motels and Mickey Ds on them now. Can’t even find a rock down here unless you count gravel.

Didja ever go to Valdez in the winter? There’s some serious ice climbing going on there, right beside the only highway out of town.

No, Anchorage, Fairbanks and some training areas there and the peninsula are only areas I really spent enough time in to change socks. Ice climbing was a dalliance and never a pasdion. If you knew Ogden, Utah in the late 60s you’d know that the there wasn’t much to do there, falling off the ice/rock and spending a week in the hospital was a tropical vacation.

Not the Kenai, the Alaska Peninsula. We used to go to the rec area on Kodiak and some joker had some training areas on the peninsula above Kodiak. That’s where I sorta fell in love with it and thought about moving there. Buuuuuuuut when both wives had CVs that included the point of not living any place where temps fall below 40 for more than a week…whatcha gonna do?

Yawwwwwwwwwwn…so what?
He was a member of a youth group run by the SA, that’s like saying a kid’s a Republican as he belongs to the ROTC.
They found he had a leistungsbuch with a swastika on it…horror of horrors! Nearly every kid’s organization had one…it’s an individual record of your performance in the group. It was almost mandatory that all youth belong to some youth group or face scrutiny, not like the kids all volunteered out of a deep Germanic desire to have their antisemitic talents sharpened. As for the swastika on the cover, what did she expect, the rainbow flag?
So he was on the Eastern front and had his unit almost wiped out…considering the description he may have been in my grandfather’s unit, especially as he then went to the south of France – again sounds like my grandfather’s unit.
Dear Chelsea, the ONLY way to check and say if your grandfather was a Nazi is to check the archived Party records and see if he were listed. Just being a member of the military DOES NOT make you a Nazi, you must apply, be accepted and then you are a Nazi. But then in these days of confusing historical fact with manufactured fact, who knows…who cares. John Kerry and I wore uniforms with the same flag but that don’t be makin’ me no Rat.
In all it’s great PR for Chelsea…I just wonder what her grandchildren will think of her when they go back and read her press?

My great grandfather left Germany in the 1850s if I remember correctly. I might have had relatives in Germany who were Nazis. So what does that have to do with me, if so? I wouldn’t hang my head in shame. It is what it is. It’s called history. Good, bad, ugly.

Zactly. The ‘white guilt’ ethos was supposed to make us assume the guilt of our long-dead slave owner ancestors. Didn’t have slave owners in your past as your relatives came over after the Civil War? Then your guilty was of having grown up in a racist society built on the bodies of slaves…and so forth.
My ex’s family owned a plantation with slaves in Georgia and none of the family feels guilty. I had family in the Wehrmacht and the Lodz ghetto. Sorry, left my angst over things I had no control over in my other suit.

My Father’s family has been here since the 1730’s via a land grant in what is now S. Carolina and looking at records and what family stories I was told, we has slaves from the beginning. After the war of Northern aggression, we didn’t. Members of the family moved along the East Coast and along the gulf and some stayed. Some have been successful and others not so much.
I don’t think any one of them has ever cursed the lack of slaves and the inability to get any more by whatever means as the reason for ups and downs in life.

Uncle George’s Kind Explanations of How Things Work:
Look, kids. When I go into a real estate deal I begin by beating the snot out of the other guy. What do I beat him with? His own presumption and laziness.
This is what Trump is doing to Mexico.
Sure. It makes people break out in hives. They piss themselves occasionally. More than once I’ve had to tell a client to sit down and be quiet, speak only when I hold up three fingers and chant the Yale fight song…
It makes everybody nervous as a coyote shitting fish hooks…
And it works. Once you get past the preliminaries, you get to feel like somebody in control of his life again.

The wackos in California are getting serious about leaving the USA.
Interestingly, they want to take the state with them. Yes, California.
Perhaps, they will elect hillary as their President and live happily ever after.
Well, at least until they realize their dream is a nightmare with queen hillary.
‘Calexit’ organizers get permission to gather
petition signatures for California to secede
Supporters of the so-called “Calexit” movement got the green light late Thursday to begin collecting the 585,407 voter signatures needed to get an initiative on the November 2018 ballot.
The group behind the proposal, known as Yes California, now has six months to collect and submit the signatures, according to California’s Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

Why not? They speak twenty different languages so the war would be over before battle orders are given, they’d be tripping over flower-garlanded peaceniks a thousand deep, a lot would just be tripping and they don’t have guns. We win, take prisoners (point negotiable) and deport them to ISIS for repurposing. Sounds like a winner to me.

Anyway, ain’t gonna happen. What would they live on? The Central Valley, of agricultural & state economic income fame, would fight to the death NOT to secede. They despise the liberals. And where would the newly brass-minted state get enough water? Right now, most of it comes from the Colorado River–which, last I looked, does not originate in CA.

So, I have a question. I know that Next Door sundance did a lot of writing about the, ahem, “refugee crisis” and covered some of the organizations that want to resettle the immigrants in America because of the taxpayer-funded kickbacks they get for doing so. Does anyone remember if a group called Exodus Refugee Immigration was involved?
Backstory:
There was a story I read about them today. I guess they were part of the group that decided to h*(l with Indiana, they wanted Syrian “refugees” here and they sued Mike Pence’s admin. to get his ban on the Muslim invaders overturned. Now they’re butthurt again because Trump in enforcing stricter vetting.
I shouldn’t be so upset, but I was in support of Pence’s lawsuit and I know that the Syrian refugees aren’t refugees (Syrian Christians are the only exceptions to this rule, and I don’t think Exodus is bending over backwards to help those people). I have no desire to be a rape victim or get groped by third worlders who will never assimilate. So, I really don’t like Exodus. Ihey are the kind of group that sets of warning bells in my mind. They are associated with the Episcopal Church. One of Exodus’ past stellar ideas was helping the Cuban Boatlift invaders, too*. I do remember that SD talked about churches being involved in a scheme that gave them huge amounts of taxpayer money for resettling imagined refugees and other assorted invaders and I’m trying to figure out if these people are involved.
*Invaders might be strong but Castro opened the jails and mental institutes. I’m tired of this country being the garbage can of the world. And even if they didn’t come from jails or mental institutes, they were still illegal aliens. I’m sick of this story stuck on repeat forever. I’m tired of America always having to fix the rest of the world’s problems. American sovereignty first and forever.

Indignation multiplied by his fast-tracking Christian refugees from those same countries.
No fluff up over the FACT that Moslem terrorists in those countries have killed untold thousands of Christians, that so far no Mideast Christians have flown planes into US buoldings and Obama fast-tracked Moslems from these countries over Christians. Hypocritical double-standard is alive and well.

That reads like a list of tumors on a medical chart. Hopefully President Trump can provide some solid radiation. I’m really sick of people whose hearts bleed for people in other countries but who can’t notice the people in need in their own town. or worse, these cowards intend to let in monsters that will create more victims.
I feel like CWS is a familiar name. I think sundance did write about these people at the height of the “refugee crisis.”

Please get the word out on this new gizmo. A six slice bacon toaster. There was some mumbo-jumbo in the article about it being healthier, but who cares about that. A must for your 2017 Santa list. 😆 😆

Funny thing, Mr. 59 is that I saw this on a local tv news program, where 4 or 5 busy moms tested out new kitchen gizmos. One lady had a son who loved bacon every morning and was very fussy about how it was done. She loved this bacon toaster, she said her son loved the bacon, and that it was a definite time saver..

For some good fun I dug up some comments from deranged leftist fools online. Enjoy.
I’m having major anxiety attacks, and have been on anti-depressants since the inauguration. Even though I’m Canadian.
This is a classic effect of 4th Generation Warfare. The psychological assaults disrupt your perception of reality. They instill uncertainty, bewilderment, confusion, fear, a loss of trust and even despair. Sound familiar?
We’ve been bombarded with what amount to “reality bombs”.
These feelings are not accidental – they’re choreographed.
Who are they being choreographed by, and why?
The who is the FSB, acting through Bannon and Trump.
For the why, please please please Google “Alexander Dugin”.
This is what WWIII feels like in the 21st century.
Despair, fact finding, activism, escapism. I cycle through those spaces, being unable or unwilling to occupy any one of them for sustained periods of time. It’s still early to work through a shock as massive and menacing as this.
A mild case of PTSD. I am a lesbian and the future 4 years looks exceptionally bleak.
I see everything in a negative light. I’m paranoid. One night I took 1/2 xanax after a beer. I yelled at my husband and lost patience with my pets. I walk around with a lump in my throat. Hard to focus on work.
The march last Saturday was thrilling. Other than that I just wanna be out of here.
worried up here in Canada..

BTW, under the heading of things you never hear about, an average of some 2000-TONS of unexploded WWII bombs are uncovered in Germany each year. WWII bombs are still accidentally detonated and killing workers. Imagine how many are still buried in SE Asia And the Mideast.

I’m just a little bit confused about this right vs. left ovary thing chickens have going. the article…
http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKChange.html
…claims that the bird only used the left ovary, and if this one is damaged, the right becomes essentially active. The right ovary also produces more testosterone, in effect making the bird sterile. “So, the affected bird stops laying (usually) and grows male plumage.”
It’s hard for me to conceive an evolutionary reason for this useless “backup” ovary. Have you ever noticed this “man-hen” phenomenon in your flocks?

I had a hen once that started crowing and grew pointed hackle feathers like a rooster. She still laid eggs though.

Is the Transgendered community going to start using chickens as a rational?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Some animals (and maybe chickens) are capable of asexual reproduction. Maybe they’ll give that a shot too.

Just checked. Chickens need a rooster to make baby chicks.

Oh yeah….the bird becomes sterile and egg laying stops. However, the article goes on to say that the rooster will usually still stick by this “transgendered” female and “court” her. LOL…I guess there’s no accounting for taste. 😀

All the years I’ve had chickens I’ve saw it twice, so imo it’s very rare and I don’t know about the ovary thing.
As for the transgender community I wouldn’t be surprised but then I’ve seen the LGBT community use animals as proof all species are gay when they don’t understand that animals will mount the same breed but they only reproduce with the opposite sex.
I do know all animals can be born hermaphrodites and that is what I have always believed to be the case with rare chicken changing sex thing. I do know none of the eggs are ever fertile. The same with goats, we had one goat once born with an organ in the spot of a penis but shaped like a vagina and no testicles.

I’ve seen a little of everything and although not a scientific opinion, my opinion is things are born with birth defects and this is no different than an animal being born with too few limbs or extra limbs.
I know even vets I’ve talked to disagree on what causes hermaphrodites, some think it’s inbreeding, some think if you breed polled to polled it causes it. I just know the chicken we had didn’t come from inbreeding and neither did the goat and it had a polled mother and horned father.

California supporters have until July to get 600,000 signatures on the petition to leave the US and become a sovereign nation. I’m thinking of moving there just to sign the petition…but wait, if I use the California model I don’t have to be a citizen to sign or vote, do I?

It will be funny when the signatures are investigated for validity. I will laugh and laugh. (e.g., “712,000 signatures were collected, but only 23,412 were legal. Details at 11.” )
Seriously, it would be interesting to have this go the (almost) full 8 and a half yards, just to see how President Trump will respond. CA needs a major spanking. He’ll be doing some responding anyway, as informal discussions are apparently happening already on how CA can withhold money owed TO the federal government in case FedGov withholds monies b/c of stubborn sanctuary cities.
I live in a land of lunatics and morons.

I have always liked doctor Ablow.
Dr. Keith Ablow: What’s REALLY going on in Trump’s mind? (Hint: it’s not what you think)
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/01/27/dr-keith-ablow-whats-really-going-on-in-trumps-mind-hint-its-not-what-think.html
In this case, Trump has masterfully used the media’s pathetic naiveté and desire to battle him to make them focus on a throwaway battle — his seeming obsession with crowd size (which I can almost guarantee he could not care less about) — while he determinedly does what he does care about: signing orders that resurrect pipeline projects, retooling our broken immigration laws, laying the groundwork for a better health care system and preparing to build the wall.

“The rest of us, over the next 90 days or eight years, will watch Trump masterfully ignite one squabble after another that the members of the press fall all over themselves to engage in, while he remakes the world.”
Look, I know I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I have had this exact feeling ever since Kellyanne was out saying things that didn’t match with what Trump was saying at the time. It got all of us in a dither, but I had the feeling it was actually programmed.
