Remember Olga?
In 2000, she became an American citizen. On May 16 this year she turned 70 and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Good mornin’, Lucille! Hard to think about some of these folks as being a grandparent. Although I can say the same thing about myself. Coffee’s ready, ma’am.

Good morning Tex,
Thank you for the early morning coffee. I’m sure the rest of the gang will be in here shortly for that robust brew.
The first cups are always the best.

An amazingly talented gymnast. Her novel “Korbut flip” routine was controversial. It’s artistic merits were debated because it interrupted the flow of the gymnastic routine.
More importantly the potential for serious injury was thought to be too great. Rules regarding standing on the high bar were changed, thus eliminating the maneuver.
“This deadly flip … was first performed by Olga Korbut in 1972 at the Munich Olympics. However, the trick was only documented once and was banned in 1972 due to its dangerous nature…
This deadly backflip, Dead Loop, is one of the most life-threatening tricks for a gymnast. Belarusian gymnast Olga Korbut gained a 9.8/10 by standing on a high bar and performing a backflip before gripping the bar again. Nonetheless, she did it only once, as it proved to be one of the most fatal gymnastics tricks and could render some unprecedented injuries.”

Morning everyone, and happy Saturday!
I love making bouquets, but I use flowers from Hobby Lobby because as much as I’d love to make fresh flower arrangements, I don’t have a source for flowers to arrange myself. If you’re talented enough to have a garden, here’s a nice how to video.

Morning Menagerie! The only flowers I have are perennials, and none of them are blooming at the moment.

The woes of gardening. We’re past the sweet spot of early spring and into summer. The persistent rain and then the heat shortened some of it in various parts of the country. Now, it just waiting for the fall blooms to kick in, because everything else is exhausted. (Including the gardener.)
And deer are sometimes not so dear.

National Ride the Wind Day – commemorates the anniversary of the first human-powered flight to win the Kremer prize. On August 23rd of 1977, the Gossamer Condor flew the first figure-eight course specified by the Royal Aeronautical Society at Minter Field in Shafter, California. Slowly cruising at only 11 mph, it traveled a distance of 2,172 meters.

Good day to you, Czarina! Riding the wind would be great for dare devils, which I definitely ain’t. However, the most interesting days are the foods which Texan may possibly have ready at today’s coffee klatch. I’m game for the Cuban Sandwich…according to AI that’s a type of sandwich, typically grilled, containing ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles…
Sponge cake with chocolate frosting would be great, too, or this version…
Whatever a person’s inner nerd is, hopefully it won’t be revealed in polite company.

Good afternoon Czarina,
Your lists are an enjoyable part of the day.
You never know what will pop up.
On sponge cakes, I’m not sure I would compare them with angel food cakes; except that the only similarity that I can think of, is that they are leavened by air. Angel food cakes have cream of tartar, as well. Genoise (sponge cakes) do not.
Imagine my dismay after preparing a requested birthday cake and carefully following the directions, (including a rather painstaking process in beating the egg yolks by hand) I ended up with a classic European Genoise. It was literally the texture of a sponge. Moist, but very eggy, and only marginally sweet. I placed jam between the layers in an effort to achieve a better outcome, but that form of sturdy cake, in my opinion, is much better as a base, or as a rolled cake.
Lucille’s illustration is a good representation.

I accidentally found a new (to me) use for cream of tartar. Stabilizing whipped cream! Used it on my Christmas trifle.

I’ve seen the “doctor” on Gutfeld’s show a few times. The other guy is Jim Breuer who was on SNL a few years ago and is a good guy on our side of the fence.

Mornin’ All. Pretty cool out so far, but it looks like a beautiful day.
I have been wondering the the couple downstairs was going to move their things out. Well, it appears that they moved a truckload last night about 1:30. They left the truck running right outside the window in my extra room for about 30 min and all the stuff on their patio is gone. Good.
Hope you all have a great day.
