    Stellars….

The State Bird of Texas…the Mockingbird…

The State Bird of Idaho…the Mountain Bluebird…

The State Bird of Michigan…the American Robin…

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

Good mornin’, and happy Saturday! Lots of stuff going on and I wanted to get coffee out early in case WP decided to make our life difficult again. Time to head outside and get some fresh air.

I love garlic and amaretto pie. For anyone who wants an utterly melt in your mouth delicious, over the top dessert, I have a copycat recipe for a well loved restaurant’s version of the pie. The Mt. Vernon restaurant is closed now, and the Publix I shop at stands on the site, but I had many a good meal there, always, always finished off with that pie.

They were legendary for doing the dishes the South is famous for better than anyone, including even most of our grandmothers. Of course, that’s because for most of their years they had wonderful black women who’d been there forever cooking their delights.

They used to make a dilly bread when I was a kid, but I’ve never found a recipe for that one.

I drove through Gilroy, CA on a business trip many moons ago (Garlic capital of the World). The OKC Firefighters were a former client of mine and their HQ was literally around the corner from the memorial site.

Good day, Czarina! National Hanging Out Day (which is blessedly for a whole lot of folk a thing of the past)…

When my dryer went on the blink just as I was ready to put the wash in for a dry, the clothes I needed to be dried before the repairman was to come the following morning came out STIFF AS A BOARD AND WRINKLY. LOL! So, no thanks to celebrating Hanging Out Day!

      As for National Amaretto Day….

The 7 Best Amaretto Liqueur Brands in 2024

By Timo Torner / Last updated on January 15, 2024

Amaretto is a delightful Italian liqueur packed with sweet flavors like almond and marzipan. But which brand makes the best one?

Does all Amaretto taste the same?

No, they certainly do not taste the same. The flavor profile varies widely depending on whether the flavoring ingredient is almonds, peach stones, apricot kernels, or a combination of them. Also, the level of sweetness can be very different, from very restrained (Amaretto Adriatico) to very sweet (Luxardo Amaretto di Saschira). In general, premium bottles contain much less sugar than cheaper options because sugar is an easy way to cover up harsher notes of alcohol.

Don’t remember the brand, but my boyfriend used to keep a nice supply in his cabinet. It was my first introduction to it and delightful.
