I was about 12, when my next oldest brother was the manager of the Cadillac Country Club. He was a sophomore at Michigan St. and took the job for the summer. IIRC, it was open only in the summer months. It was situated on Lake Cadillac, which was absolutely stunning. I was a pot walloper and a bus boy for the club. The club was closed on Mondays, so I could enjoy golfing and boating and fishing, etc. My bro bought a Sunfish sailboat to sail on the lake.
I was out in the middle of the lake on the Sunfish and became becalmed. With no wind, I decided to tie the boom to the rudder and go for a swim. I was about 10 feet from the boat, when a gust of wind caused the sailboat to begin sailing away. It seemed like a really long way; but was probably 200 yards, before I caught up with the Sunfish and was able to climb back aboard. Lesson learned.

Good morning everyone. Having coffee before starting to clean and cook today. Please say a little prayer for my trucker son. He’s trying really hard to get home to us, and having some challenges. He’s hoping to make it in time for the big meal, which fortunately isn’t going to be until 4 tomorrow evening. Still, I’d just rather have him home with us.
It’s an isolated, lonely life truckers live, and full of difficult things I was not aware of until he went over the road so long ago. For many years I have especially prayed for the truckers and their families, especially during holidays.

Mornin’ all ya’all! Just hung out my 3rd load of laundry, getting everything up off the floor to vacuum. But first, I need a nap.

I’m on the home stretch now! All that’s left is mopping. OTOH though, I’m behind in cooking.

Just finished the bathroom, and dust mopped the dining room floor. Now to mop the kitchen. I’ll cut up veggies later. I made my gravy and my cranberry sauce already, and dried my bread for dressing.

I picked up our two meals from Bob Evans. I know. I’m lazy. But, it costs less for us to do that and we don’t have so much food left over, some of which goes bad. All I have to do tomorrow is heat it up.

That’s fine too! My daughter and family are picking up carry out for tonight. Don’t know what – probably either Chinese or Lebanese (we have a good restaurant in the neighborhood).

Mornin’ all. Just checking in. Had to put a shirt on that had sleeves in it this morning. It is in the 50’s. Loki is going to the beauty parlor this morning. So right now I have to run to drop her off. Later

I’m already back. I swear, I think that dog can read my mind. She whimpered all the way to the doggie parlor which is only about 5 minutes away. Last time we went out, she didn’t whimper at all.
She likes to lay on the arm of my chair and my left leg. If somebody walks by the patio, she leaps off to go bark at them. I have been trying to anticipate her launching herself off my leg. I have several little scratches from it down near my ankle. Last night she caught me off guard and really launched. There is about a 3 inch long tear several inches up from my ankle. I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding last night. I washed it and put some antiseptic on it, but it just kept bleeding. It wasn’t gushing blood, but it was bleeding enough to run down my leg. I have to find something like a quilt or something else thick to put on my leg so that doesn’t happen again. That little stinker.

My cats launch off my lap occasionally leaving damage like that. Padding does help.

How nice for you. I remember loving the first couple of snows in Utah. Then dreading what was to come for the next 4 months….

So true czarina, I’m thrilled about the snow for about the first month, but after that….not so much. :0)

I am having trouble looking at Trump or listening to him speak. It is not that I am angry or disappointed in him. I think I just want him back so bad I can hardly stand to think of him.

I really, really want a smoker. I have wanted one for years, but especially since my son got one, and his food is so good. He smoked the backstrap from the venison we got, wrapped in bacon after marinading it all day. Of course it was juicy, tender, and delicious.
Unfortunately, we have nowhere to put a smoker unless we get rid of the grill, which is not an option.
So, I found YouTube videos on how to smoke things on your gas grill. I’m sure it isn’t nearly as good, too many variables you can’t control for, and haphazard at best. But it might just be better than what I usually get on the grill, so I’m trying it with a nice fat hen today. I’m also looking at a little Nordic Ware kettle smoker which has good reviews. Might get me one of those.
Supper will either be a nice new recipe or an epic failure.

Boy that hen turned out so good. But it is definitely a special occasion recipe. It took half a day and was a PITA to keep an eye on.
