McCarthy calls Pelosi’s high-handed decision (and wins the hand)

The title of this article says that McCarthy “takes toys and leaves sandbox”. I think that statement is misleading, and McCarthy did the right thing (the author agrees, by the way.)

Squeaker of the House (typo and it stays) Nancy Pelosi blew up the J6 witch-burning commission yesterday when she rejected Minority Leader McCarthy’s picks to be on the committee. Specifically she didn’t like McCarthy’s choices of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN.) Who the hell is Pelosi to say who the Republicans choose as their representatives? Piss off.

According to The Hill, “Both are among the most staunch defenders of former President Trump and deny his role in instigating the attack, and Pelosi — fueled by objections from within her caucus — accused the pair of threatening ‘the integrity’ of the coming investigation.

In a rare moment of good sense, McCarthy yanked the other GOPers from witch-burning sandbox. There should be no pretense of legitimacy around this circus. “Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts,” McCarthy said in a statement published Wednesday.

It’s pretty rich that Pelosi criticizes Jordan and Banks for being supporters of President Trump, while she happily appoints a Democrat like Adam Schiff, lying leader of the Russian Hoax.

The members appointed to the January 6 Select Committee by Nancy Pelosi are Democratic Representatives Bennie Thompson, Elaine Luria, Jamie Raskin, Stephanie Murphy, Pete Aguilar, Adam Schiff and Zoe Lofgren, as well as “Republican” Liz Cheney. Representative Bennie Thompson, the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, will chair the January 6 panel.

Again, Liz Cheney takes the side of Nancy Pelosi by publicly criticizing McCarthy’s decision:

“Any person who would be third in line to the presidency must demonstrate a commitment to the constitution and a commitment to the rule of law, and Minority Leader McCarthy has not done that,”

American Greatness concludes (correctly):

This is not an attempt to understand what happened, this is an attempt to keep their INSURRECTION garbage in the news and use the power of government to compel and investigate to help the Democrats in 2022. Because if there isn’t’ some fabricated soap opera in the news to smear Republicans, people will wonder what the Democrats are doing with their power. It’s that simple. We all saw what happened with the RUSSIA collusion hoax. It’s the same thing.

What an excellent article! Thanks, Stella, for your fine commentary, too.

Here’s McCarthy’s weekly presser today. A lot of conservatives diss McCarthy. But I like his low-key style even if I think more is called for on occasion.

Boebert Demands to Know Why Biden Regime Keeping Capitol Protesters in Lockdown While Antifa Rioters Go Free
    By Jonathan Davis – July 21, 2021 –

A group of Republican lawmakers led by freshmen Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado are demanding that the Biden administration explain the alleged unequal treatment of Black Lives Matter and Antifa protesters, many of whom have never spent a night in jail, and those who have been incarcerated for months following the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.

      What’s most disturbing…

Is the comment that Pelosi is 3rd in line to the Presidency! 😵

      • stella says:

        Pelosi is 2nd in line.

      • stella says:

Cheney’s comment is confusing. She is referring to McCarthy wanting to be Speaker of the House. The line of succession is: (after the President) Vice President (Kamala), Speaker of the House (Pelosi), Secretary Pro Tempore of the Senate (Patrick Leahy).

        • Lucille says:

Interesting that the line of succession folks are all possessed of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Add the bitter, self-destructive and charmless Cheney to the TDS list and you have quite a crew of lying liars.

It may just my wishful thinking, but now that Pres Trump has become the “elder statesman,” the spineless RINOs seem to have found a tenuous spine.

We’ll see how long McCarthy maintains his stance, or whether my wishful thinking is just that.
