Incredible colors in those sunsets!

Speaking of sunsets, I was invited to a Sunday afternoon gathering at a mountain estate in Pacific Palisades, CA (north of Santa Monica and south of Malibu). The home faced west and had an incredible view of the Pacific coast. As the afternoon progressed, a few clouds gathered so that when the sun spectacularly went down everything turned to puffy clouds of orange and pink in the sky above us and, of course, over the ocean. It was like being in a dream.

Beautiful photo of Flathead Lake, Lucille. I lived just south of there, in Ronan Montana, for a year back in the late 90s before moving to Alaska. Very lovely area, but I did miss the ocean. I love all these sunsets. We’ve been having some stunning ones lately, through our spate of gorgeous weather.

Tundra, the Montana photo would certainly make a lovely painting, though it’s great in its own right, too. I do so miss seeing and being on the Pacific. I got out of California at the right time. But there are so many lovely places along the coast both north and south that I long for and which make for incredible views and places to anchor a boat.
My Mom’s brother had a yacht sales business in southern CA. It was great meeting him when he and my aunt would sail a new yacht across the Pacific from Taiwan where the brass work was done into the CA port where his client would take possession. The good old days!

Venice is my favorite city. Bucket list item is to live there for a year. It would take that long to visit all the beautiful churches and points of interest. And have continental breakfasts at the street cafes.

You’d get a pretty good course in the beautiful Italian language as a bonus, Czarina! Not a bad bucket list item.

I fell in love with Venice when a teenager after seeing the Katharine Hepburn/Rossano Brazzi film entitled SUMMERTIME…released in 1955 and photographed exquisitely. Good copies can probably still be obtained since it was filmed in Technicolor which generally doesn’t fade.

When I was 7, we had come back from Gitmo and I was starting school in Norfolk, VA. While standing in line to go in the first day, the other kids were talking about integration and they were scared because they said the black kids always carry knives. I didn’t believe it then. But, some of those MSM talkers seemed to say it is true now.

When my brother was in high school, 1969 or so, the school boundaries were changed so more black kids would go to that school. It was already full of Cubans, and the two groups of boys did not get along in Miami. To defer trouble, the FBI sent agents to stand in the hallways. Really.

Mornin’ All. Sunny, humid, and blah, blah, blah here, as usual. I’m gonna spend most of the day getting things ready to go to spend next week at the beach again. I am going to try to ignore the news as much as I can while we are there. Have a nice day. I hope you are not out shoveling snow. 😯

Taking a good book? I have four which I have started and keep putting down because they do not hold my interest. Of course, it may be because they are books I feel I “should” read to improve my mind or something like that. Maybe I just need to go to the library and look for one that captures me.

I have Mike Lindell’s book. It is hard to read with my friend there, though. LOL. She plays games on her Kindle and talks the whole time. And, I am easily distracted. 🙄

Have you read the A through Y detective novels by Sue Grafton? If not, HIGHLY recommended.

You know, I am not sure I have ever read a detective novel. Hm.

I made it up through about N is for… Really good character! Set in Santa Barbara, a city I don’t know at all, with interesting plots. Guess I should finish the last half of the alphabet.

Yeah – get a fun ol’ “trash” fiction book. Have you read the “Outlander” series? Those are good and long – and fun. The first one starts out kinda slow, but from then on, wham!

Well, I tried that one, but didn’t get through the first 4 pages.

It takes about the first 50-100 pages, but after that – never a dull moment.

Try one of Mary Stewart’s books. They are old, but well written and engaging. Here are a few titles:
My Brother Michael
This Rough Magic
Nine Coaches Waiting
Airs Above The Ground
Amazon has these at $2.99 and $3.99.

Romantic suspense novels. Romance, rather than sex.

Ooh, I like the romance.

Mary Stewart also wrote the Merlin trilogy (King Arthur’s Merlin), which I also recommend. The titles are:
The Crystal Cave
The Hollow Hills
The Last Enchantment

Other suggested authors:
Helen McInnes (another old one)
Sue Grafton (Kinsey Milhone mysteries)

Sorry, I didn’t read down the comment thread far enough to see you’d already mentioned Sue Grafton. Such a wonderful writer.

I went to the library today and picked up a new Patricia Cornwall, and an old C.J. Box I must have missed from 2007. Already delightfully 27 pages in.

I loved Cornwell’s Scarpetta series when it came out, but had to stop towards the end. Just got too dark for me. Don’t know Box, what titles do you recommend?

Hey Tundra…CJ Box was one of my husbands favorite authors and he always swore they were best when read in sequence. The first three CJ Box novels are:
– Open Season
-Savage Run
-Winter Kill…..

I’ve read them in order, like Maus. The refer to prior ones. All the Joe Pickett ones are great. You’ll like the western landscapes and way of life. And the mysteries are well written and keep your attention.

Authors I have read are Bronte, Jane Austin Luisa may Alcott, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Eugenia Price, Louis Lamour and Zane Gray. I have read Zane Gray probably more than 30 times each and Louis Lamour at least 10 times. I probably need to branch out a little.

Yeah, I read all those a bunch of times, then went to autobiographies, biographies, and a lot of science fiction. Seem to have been in mysteries for several years..

Supposed to be 80 degrees here this afternoon. Windows are now open! Hope you have a good time at the beach. Get a book that’s fun to read and it will hold your attention.
