Good News!! (& happy stories), July 10, 2020

A New Jersey police officer paddled a kayak to the middle of a pond to rescue a dog stuck neck-deep in the muck.

Washington Township officers responded to a dog in distress and found Akela, a gray boxer/mastiff, struggling in the water, the department said Wednesday on Facebook.

“Akela was in high spirits after her ordeal and even posed for a few quick pictures before being turned over to Animal Control Solutions,” the department said.

Auscitizenmom did! Congratulations to her and Loki.

Imagine how much better the world would be if we all smiled all the time (or not.)

I can think of some people who are headed in that direction.

Wish I were here.

Or maybe here.

Vocab. Speaking of Scotland …

Fun game!

Must be a Jello recipe from the 1950’s. There were a lot of weird dishes.

On one wall in the kitchen I have a set of jello molds in copper color. You may remember these, as they came from the S&H Gereen Stamp store back in the 50’s. I got them from my mother. I don’t remember ever using them, however. She made strawberry jello with sliced bananas, or orange jello with grated carrots in a Pyrex bowl and scooped it out with a serving spoon. Never made anything remotely as bizarre as those recipes!

I remember the Sunshine salad from the Betty Crocker cookbook. I think it was either orange or lemon jello with grated carrots and crushed pineapple.

I still really like the lime jello with pineapple, nuts, and cottage cheese. I would make it all the time if I could figure out a way to only make 1/2 a recipe at a time. LOL It just occurred to me………………jello is cheap, I could make the jello part and pour 1/2 of it down the sink.

Oh my gosh we did too. Mom put them way up really high in the kitchen, so of course it was my job to retrieve them, put them back up, and keep them clean.
Mom made the salads you mentioned, but never the exotic stuff. Who could afford Spaghetti-o’s?

My mother always insisted on having a jello dessert for Thanksgiving. She made it in stemmed dessert glasses. Usually strawberry with bananas. She said that everybody was too full for pie right after dinner, so she served the jello then.

My Isla came from a Border Collie rescue. So did the one I had in Scotland. A lot of people will get a Border not knowing the breed’s character, and then can’t handle them properly. They can be the best, but definitely not for apartment dwellers.

My Mom could get a little wild with Jello, She made a salad with Lime Jello, vegetables and diced ham. My Grandma would make Lime Jello with pineapple, cream cheese and pecans. Here in the South they can get very creative for the Church’s potluck dinners.

That Charlie Davis video brought me to tears.

Only a couple three rescue dogs and cats from shelters, but a whole boatload of strays who showed up. Heck, i paid money to have them up-to-date in shots,neutered/spayed, wormed, etc., and gave a good many away to good homes.
Always swore there was a sign in the woods pointing to our house saying “Suckers live here, free food and warm lodgings.” (the woods butted right up to our back yard)

This little girl I got seems very happy to have a new home. I just can’t imagine anyone turning her out. She is chipped and everything. But, they rescued her as a stray. And, she is such a good girl.

We got three when we used to live at the cabin. Two from the neighborhood and one from where my husband works.
