        • When I pull the cord on my Toro, and it starts by the third pull, that’s my happy time. I clear the snow for my entire block, every time it snows. My Landlord does, too. I do the back, he does the front. Sometimes I do both. We both do a far better job than the city does. For twelve years, now, I’ve been doing this. For no money. Just because. Every business owner, and worker, on the block knows they don’t have to shovel at work, because Jamie’s got it, and has already changed out of his wet pants and into sweatpants by the time they get to work. Then he goes to work. Clearing their snow is just a hobby. We love this stuff. For some insane reason.

          • There’s a little window into my strange life.

            I remember telling a girl, 24 or so, one winter years ago, when I was shoveling snow at her (my boss’s) coffee shop when it was still dark out, that “I love shoveling snow!”

            That was the only time I ever lied to her. I hate shoveling snow. I loved shoveling HER snow.

            And that’s why I shovel and snowblow for 8 or so different businesses, and their employees, every time it snows.

            I try and get up and out by 5:30 or so, just to beat the city workers, who just mess it all up. Their equipment leaves dangerous ice-tracks on the sidewalks, from the stupid wheels, that every business-owner has to buy scrapers for. Their snow-throwers are the auger kind, and only scrape down to about 1/4″. It’s just more proof that private enterprise, and even volunteerism, will always do a better job than government. My snow-thrower scrapes all the way down to the pavement, with no damage, because it’s paddles made of leather and rubber, and cost probably 1/10 of what the city’s machines do.

            This year, so far, I’ve used the Toro once. Some years, we’ve almost broken it by now.

            Liked by 1 person

          • Basically, between me and my landlord, whoever gets the Toro first gets to clear the whole block with it. It takes 2-3 hours. Sometimes we have to fight over it. With puns. I lose most times, and am stuck with my favorite throwing shovel.

            Snow is actually fun, when you’re clearing it for other people, and their houses, and their businesses. Knowing that they don’t have to. Knowing that they love you for that.

            • Srsly, me and my landlord do an entire city block every time it snows.

              All storefronts and alley. And we fight fir the Toro. And we both wield the shovel like pros.

              It’s an art. Nobody pays us. I don’t know why it’s fun.

            • Czar. You would love my landlord. All puns. He can’t turn it off. It’s like a spigot that doesn’t work anymore.

              There’s another guy in my town that owns hardware stores here and in another town, called Bangor. He is also the most afllicted pun-addict I’ve ever seen.

              When he and my landlord get together, it’s like the best swordfight you’ve ever seen on film. Better than Scarlet Pimpernel or Princess Bride.

              I wish I had a great pun wit.

                NYT had an article about this “addiction” to puns, a few years ago. I wish I could find it.

                I put that in quotes because I think it’s just intelligence.

              • See, what I just did there is not pun wit. It’s something i came up with years ago. Pun wit is on the fly, at the snap of a finger, in an instant coming up with a good pun. And I’m guessing czar is there with that. My landlord and Doug Landers are like that. It’s just instantaneous, BAM, off the tongue. I don’t understand that level of intelligence. I appreciate it, to be sure. But I cannot imagine being able to come up with puns that quick.

    Democrats Hoist with Their Own Petard

    β€œHoist with his own petard” is a phrase taken from Shakespeare and means someone destroyed himself with a weapon (a petard, that is, small bomb) intended for another. President Trump has hoisted the #NeverTrumpers on theirs and is about to do the same thing to the now irremediably lunatic Democrats.

    Christopher Bedard has done a brilliant job describing the downfall of the #NeverTrump scribblers. It’s worth reading it all, but here are some highlights:

    The Never Trumpers say they don’t recognize a Republican Party where the core tenets are neither free trade nor foreign democracy promotion. But maybe they just didn’t know their voters by sight, because the only party that has truly departed recognition is Never Trump.

    Each week brings this movement a new and bizarre position: Opposing tax cuts, supporting Obamacare; wishing North Korean talks ill, wishing Democratic investigators well; dreaming of European political meddling, pining for American political comeuppance. [snip]

      And more from Clarice;

      A look at Senator Schumer’s face in the public β€œnegotiation” in the White House showed me that he realized the stunt was a loser. If I had any doubts, the picture of his face as he left the White House this past Friday confirmed it. He looked like a man being led to the gallows.

    • Why is our Nation giving our money to other countries at all? I don’t care if it’s “palestine”, Israel, France, or some impoverished North African nation. Why? What good does it do us, giving their governments our money? I want to say “How about you keep your people (and don’t send them here), and let them make you money, and we’ll keep our money, and we’ll keep out of your business, and you keep out of ours.”

      Somehow I’m an a**hole for saying that. Even though it’s the truth.

      We don’t need your people, coming to our country and begging for, and getting, our money. You don’t need our money. You need your people to make you money, instead of getting it from the nations that actually work. Because us giving you our money isn’t (OBVIOUSLY) working at all, and makes your nations want to beg our nations (the ones that actually function societally) for more of our money, instead of becoming a nation that works, instead.

      All these nations that we give money to are the town bums, and they send their worst TO OUR NATION to beg and receive our money here.

      Oh, and to kill and rape our women and girls. While getting our hard-earned money from us, while we give their home countries millions of dollars. I really can’t see a positive net benefit to America here. All I see is rape, murder, and large-scale theft.

    • The families of convicted Palestinians serving time in Israeli prisons receive $3,000 or higher per month, many times more than the average Palestinian salary.

      I make, working my butt off, $14,000 per year, giving 1/3 to my government, so they can pay Fakestinians more money than I make so they can kill people.

      I am a hard-working American citizen. There has never been a nation called Palestine.

      Hopefully there never will be. And hopefully America will completely stop giving OUR money to other countries, terrorist or not. Let them make their own money. Like E.F. Hutton. “We make our money the old fashioned way: WE EARN IT.”

    Serious question.

    Does anyone here think that we can avoid a late scale bloodshed event in America if not outright civil war?

    I know Scott Adams is convinced that people who are willing to commit violence against their fellow Americans are on the lunatic fringe and that there will be no large scale event.

    Me. I’m not convinced. The Left keeps normalizing, actually making it a virtue for the Left to threaten and commit violence against us.

    Eventually we will respond in kind, not to the words, but to the physical attacks, eventually there will be a domino effect to this kind of violence. Those are my thoughts anyhow.

Because they’re cowardly lefties, and they want the government to DO IT FOR THEM. They don’t have the balls to do it themselves. Even with all these really sharp knives hanging on the wall.

      They never change. And they’ll always be cowards.

    Prayer to St. Michael

    St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
    be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
    and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
    by the power of God,
    thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
    who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

    In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

  21. Imagine that every time you go to sleep, and dream, you only ever have one dream. You’re reaching into a three-hole sink, and you’re always finding more dishes to scrub. That’s every single dream I have. That’s the only dream I have. I don’t dream about being on a beach. About beautiful women. Nope. Just about never finishing the dishes in a restaurant kitchen. Every single dream is the same one. The same exact nightmare. Why can’t I dream about being on a beach? Nope. Every single dream has to be the same one. More dishes. Never-ending dishes.

    I can’t even escape it coming home and going to sleep. It never ends. Not even in sleep.

    I don’t know if you saw the story about the 7 year old girl in Texas who was shot and killed in a driveby. Her momma and other on-the-scene witnesses gave police a description of the shooter – a 40ish year old white man in a hoodie and the MSM was rife with discussions about it being a racially motivated shooting.

    A suspect who was fingered by a anonymous tip was arrested today – he’s a black male in his early 20s. Seems it was a case of mistaken identity, the shooter mistook the target for someone else. The press is falling all over itself excusing the misidentification as a confusion caused by the heat of the moment and/or the witnesses may have confused the shooter with bystanders fleeing the shooting area. Hmmmmm…the girl shot was in a car, the shooter was in a car and the witnesses saw the shooter right next to them in the car…yeah, I can see how they could make that mistake.

    • I think this is why I have strange nightmares about washing dishes in restaurant kitchens.

      I work with black people, too. And I call them “nigga”. I call white kids the same. And I don’t care any more. I’m almost 50… go ahead, kill me, nigga. Do what you people do.

        • People see me in a hoodie, and they hit their car alarm five times. FIVE TIMES.

          Like I said, I’m almost 50. I don’t care any more. I’ve yelled at them! NOBODYS GONNA STEAL YOUR STUFF!. We’re not your theives, nigga. We’re white people! We don’t care what you have in your car. We don’t want it. We already have enough stuff, you paranoid f**k. We don’t want what you have in your car. And so you don’t need to make your car go Beep! Beep! fifteen times ,you stupid paranoid idiot, with your keyfob. Just because we’re wearing a hoodie, doesn’t mean we want to steal your car or anything in it!
