And might that be a first-year Hudson Hornet? If I remember there should be an aerial coming out of the top of the chrome strip that divides the windshield….divided windshields……
I think it is. I know I mentioned it before, but both my parents (and many other relatives) worked for Hudson before and through WWII. My mom left in about 1948 or ’49, and my dad sometime in the fifties.
And those were CARS!
It’s at the point where I hate going into a car dealership. I was looking at replacing the Avalanche with a more ‘farm’ truck, one with a bed that was ‘standard’ and had some solid towing power. I went to two major US brand dealers and they kept trying to sell me trucks that were loaded with bells/whistles-farts & darts. After doing everything BUT what I wanted them to do they had the usual ‘sales manager’ come out and say they’ve managed to pare the price down to JUST $45,000 and give me a free key fob!
They, after some hour of wasting my irreplaceable life, when they finally realized I wasn’t going gto buy the glow-in-the-dark plasticized weekend-warrior trucks did say they could get me a bare-bones fleet model at about $25K but it would only have a 3-cylinder motor our of a Bulgarian expresso machine and a three speeec tranny with no reverse. If I wanted a 6-cylinder Americanish engine with a regular tranny it would cost extra – about $45,000 total…BUT they’d throw in an AM radio and driver’s side window that rolled down.
Where are those cars/trucks of yesteryear?
The dreamer in me thinks it could just be replicated, kind of along the lines of how a Checker cab, was pretty much a replicated ’56 Chevy, and barely changed in their production run from 1959-1982.
For a truck, you need a solid frame, big engine, rugged dependable drive train, good suspension, sturdy bed with hardpoints for tie downs, lights and mirrors, cab with radio and usb to plug in your mp3 player, optional A/C and power windows — is that so difficult?
I’m looking for a big V-8, 2WD with heavy towing capability, I’ll take diesel or gas, fairly good miles-per-gal, standard tranny (deal killer there) and an AM/FM/CD.
I don’t want heated seats, electric steering, plastic body, fancy wheels and trim – the livestock don’t appreciate it and I hate picking thev froo-froo off the ground when normal field work makes it fall off.
We use trucks, beat the truck outta them and these vurban cowboy specials the cost more than my dad’s first house and are made primarily for suburban cowboys to tool around the Home Depot parking lot just don’t cut it.
I had a 64 Chevy that had a posi rear and a 454 under the hood – fed a 4-speed and was geared for work and not speed. Ate gas but it could pull a jihadi off a goat…miss it.
used pine oil cleaner on white walls….best ever….how about the “curb feelers” that mounted on passenger side to tell you where the curb was close to your car when parallel parking…an experience unknown to most younguns today…..
Parking period is a skill, never mind an experience, unknown to many today. Apparently lost arts like parallel parking are not taught in postmodern driving classes.
When I was 16 and took my test to get my license, I did everything perfectly right up to the parallel parking. I bumped the pole on the front, and then the poll on the back. I figured I had failed and said so to him. He gave me the license with my promise that I would practice parallel parking more before I ever did it out in public.
I like to impress my daughters by parking in really tight parking spots. The trick is to make sure the bozos on either end have enough room to get out with dinging me. I grew up on a street where parallel parking was the only option.
Where my daughter and SIL lived before they bought their house, I always had to find a street slot. Sometimes they were very tight. They didn’t have permit parking in their neighborhood. They were close to the lake, just off Belmont, a couple of blocks from Sheridan Road. One time it took me 20 minutes to find a place.
I’ve got a one in Wicker Park and one near Wrigley, so you can imagine the parking. I very rarely drive down there anymore, I take amtrak and then walk or take cabs/uber.
My dog gets car sick. I’ve given her dramamine and that helps but now when I go to visit my folks my dad forgets about the dogs and almost always leaves the doors open so it is easier to just leave them home.
Even when I drove an old car I enjoyed parallel parking, I don’t know why. I learned to drive in a big old boat of a car a Lincoln Continental so after that everything seemed small.
The Lincoln was my friend’s boyfriend’s car. Her and I had a lot of fun driving all over. Until. I think we’ll just leave it there. She called me one day and asked if I drove home or if she did, I said I didn’t know, my mom said that she must have dropped me off because the trie tracks in the snow led right up to our front porch stairs which was a city lot away from the street.
When we left Utah I had to leave my ’72 Toyota Landcruiser and ’55 Chevy panel wagon behind. Can’t tell which one I miss more but I do miss ’em both. I can remember jacking that wagon up to change a tire – the whole frame was a jack-point, not like modern plasticars where if you don’t use the ‘approved’ factory jack-point you risk warping the frame.
Love the old cars and all the memories mentioned in the comments today….one of our favorite things as young’uns was that one of us (whoever got there first) would lay on the shelf under the big slanted back window and watch the stars all the way home from relatives’homes, about 45 miles from our farm. What a fantastic view.
My mother saved babysitting money to buy a 1949 black Packard with automatic transmission in about 1955. Back seat so big two children could sleep on the seat and one on the floor.
I did, thank you! Hubby took me out for a date last night and my girls and parents gave me very thoughtful gifts. My grandson colored a picture for me, so it was a very special day!
Hooray! I love little kid’s drawings. I still have the first scribbling my first daughter made when she was under two. It is just crayon works on a piece of paper but it makes me smile and brings me to a happy place every time I look at it 🙂 .
They bring back sweet memories, don’t they? My DD made the homemade card that said Happy Birthday from Owl of us, because I love owls. Grandbaby added his special touch to it and it was signed from him, his parents, and new baby. ❤️❤️❤️
So sweet! My mom loves owls, one of my fist memories is looking at the owl picture she had hanging in the front room when I was very little. It was still there when I moved out.

BTW, each year the Archdiocese of New Orleans holds a ‘Blue Mass’ to honor first responders. The mass includes a formation, in uniform, of police, fire, EMTs and other safety personnel. It’s held at the St Louis cathedral in the Quarter, the iconic one you see in the tourist pictures, and is quite impressive.
It lasted thru Mayor Landrieu’s reign, I guess he thought better of taking on the Church like he did the Confederate statues, and I’m a bit surprised he didn’t try to jiggle it as a sign of a non-progressive mindset. Then again had he and he’d have missed a photo-op and had a city full of religious people to deal with.

1. In a glass measuring cup (one with a pouring spout will work well) put 3 teaspoons of corn starch in the bottom. That is the same as one tablespoon or one big spoonful.
2. Pour in a little bit of corn syrup. Mix the corn starch and corn syrup with a fork until you get a cement like mixture. Then add enough corn syrup until you have 1/2 cup of mixture. Keep stirring to mix in the corn starch thoroughly. I know it sounds funny to add a little corn syrup and then the rest of the corn syrup. You do it in two stages to prevent lumps.
3. Add 1/4 cup of cold water and stir that in. Stir in red food coloring until you get the color you want. A little goes a long way. I use about 10 drops and it looks cool.
4. Cover the cup and put it in the microwave for about 2 minutes on high. Everyone’s microwave is different but you want it to just boil.
5. Take it out, stir it a little and let it cool. I poured mine into a squeeze bottle so that I could apply it as needed.
So maybe the university has an ambush agenda planned? And if they don’t perhaps you could bring one with you? Just stand up and jump into her **** with both feet.
It sure would be fun to drive around in one like that! We have a lot of car shows around here and I just love the lines of the cars and the fun colors. In the past few years when I’m driving through town and looking at what others drive, I see a lot of white, black, and gray and not much else. We need to bring back fun colors of cars!!!!

I studied this in one of my classes. People confuse self confidence and self esteem all of the time. I remember the study and it does tie in with todays “know it all” liberals.

We had a priest in our NOLA unit, our chaplain, who was Irish, Father Maughan…a real karma encounter for me but that’s another story.
Father Maughan was quite well off and liked to collect antique military weapons, had quite an impressive collection. One day he came in – he was fulltime posted to a small ruralish parish – and told us how his wee small fluffy dog was out tending to the shrubbery when a loose pitbull ran over and bit down on it. The dog was screaming for its life and Father Maughan was frantically trying to figure out what to do.
In a flash he grabbed the closest thing he could, an original Brown Bess musket with bayonet and went after the offending mutt. Getting the pit to drop his dog he then chased it down the street as he wielded an original and high-quality Napoleonic War officer’s saber. The man had class.
He was the one I went on my epic Egyptian desert romp with. Also, there was an unknown relative of his in my Utah unit who was doing his genealogy work, found the Father and called him, out of the blue, a few days before I arrived in NOLA from Utah to discuss relatives. Then there was that instance of his smuggling a case of sacramental wine into a solidly Moslem country….
I think the various reviews are more interesting than the movie, they show more about the reviewer’s politics than the movie itself. I think I’ll wait until it shows up on Netflix. I lived the incident and don’t want to pay a bunch to have someone tell me ‘what really happened’. And I have better/cheaper popcorn in my pantry.

Swans can be very aggressive and attack, especially if you go near their cygnets, or perhaps their food. These swans in England are trained however, and have a good life indeed!
“The tradition of Swans on the Moat at ‘The Bishop’s Palace’ (next to Wells Cathedral) goes back to 1870’s, when one of Bishop Hervey’s daughters first taught the swans to ring a bell for lunch to be fed to them by the caretakers who live in the gatehouse. You can see the bell just beneath the window of the Gatehouse, with a rope hanging down for the swans to pull. New generations of swans learn to ring the bell from their parents.”
However if they continue to be bad the below option is available!

Those are swan casseroles the birds are sitting on. These are fake reproductions because it was a year long museum display. Unless the swans are specially raised, the meat is tough & stringy apparently.
Thy actually aren’t that difficult. The pastry puffs you can buy pre-made, cut in half, cut out the angle of 1 half, fill, and then just bake the swirls for the neck. The meringes are not difficult either.
My dad loves desserts. Once he had a good job and we could afford it, any dessert I wanted to make I could. Every weekend we would pick out a different one I would make. It was fun, and something I had fun sharing with others over the years.
Frozen puff pastry is great. You can look like a real star. They even sell the little pastry cups. I’ve used those and filled them with a mushroom ragout as a starter.
Swans in England trained? I have to laugh at that! When we were in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, for a vacay, I saw a huge flock at the riverside. I’d never seen so many before. About 50 or 60 of them. I told DH I was going to feed the swans, so I ran into a local newspaper shop and bought a loaf of bread. As I headed across the park, I never noticed DH stayed up at the street and just watched.
As I made my way down, a few of them noticed and started towards me. I started tossing bits of bread, so they started running. When the rest of the flock noticed, they ALL started flapping, yelling, and running and they appeared to start getting bigger and bigger! I ended up throwing the whole loaf of bread and turned tail and stated running as fast as I could!
DH was doubled over laughing at me, ’cause he knew what would transpire! I was mad at him for the rest of the day for not warning me. He told me something about a” lesson best learned”, or some sort of British BS!
He said they have powerful enough wings, they can break your arm! 30 years ago, and still seems like yesterday!
LOL That is like feeding the sea gulls. A woman started throwing chips or something to fee the gulls, and a person near her told her that was a really bad idea. She just ignored them an continued…….until she was swamped with the gulls and turned and ran.
There is a town in Mass that had swans in the river going through the town center. They were good about being fed because there is a steep bank and metal fence. One year an older man was canoeing down the river (small – about 80 feet wide at most) and canoed too close to the island where the swans had their babies. They came out, attacked the canoe, overturned it, attacked him, and he drowned. I don’t know if the swans are still there.
This is why the swans at the Boston Public Gardens where the swan boats are, are specially bred and fed by the city. People walk right up to them and feed them.
swans are beautiful to look at, but the serenity factor is a myth….they are vicious attack birds and rapists…who will chase you and attack you if you appear to violate their territory.
My son’s college campus in Greenville SC has a beautiful lake and clock tower setting that in on campus and incredible…but the if the swans are out…DO NOT take out a canoe into the water….

I had found a list of flowers by state and at some point was going to put the state flower of Stellars as paintings. I could use them as Gil suggested, pair them with Czar’s suggestion of Escher (since they are all black and white drawings) as a counterpoint, and to liven up the post with color

Talk about stupid – they have had the most classically “liberal” gun laws in the country for over 200 hundred years, and have enjoyed very low crime. Now they are restricting guns because of crime in other states! SMH

He painted today. I got him some new brushes so he had to try them. He doesnt like coloring books. He does abstract art with cutting pictures and using scotch tape. Likes watercolor abstract a lot.
I am watching “The Fabulous Life of Elisabeth Vigee Labrun”. It has been so interesting. I didn’t realize that women were famous painters and that I was familiar with some of her paintings. It is about her life and her paintings and the politics of the era. I thought maybe you might be interested in it. I am watching it on Amazon Prime. She was a fascinating woman.

Portraits are not necessarily more difficult than landscape painting for example, but ARE more difficult when the client sees a well done painting they think does not look like them, even if it is accurate. I can do portraits, I do not want to do them because of this.
I was not sure Stellars would be interested in a seriesof roccoco/neoclassical portraits. I have some bookmarked, but brighter, more modern themes seem more popular to Stellars. That’s a big part of the reason why I’m asking for suggestions. I do not want to spend 4 or more hours a week setting up art posts that people do not enjoy.

I didn’t know that women could make money painting back then. Her portraits, especially the ones of Marie Antoinette, are so beautiful. I am not all that interested in movies like this, usually. But, the way it was done was so beautiful and interesting. You saw how she learned to paint, how she taught, her life which included having to leave France to 15 years, and all that was going on in the world at the time. Very well done.
I enjoy them. Even if you don’t have time to do the editing, I like seeing something an artist likes which was done by another artist. Just a taste of an artist. I get over whelmed in a gallery or museum: too much at one time.

He keeps saying he wants all the cable news, now wants netflix, and all the movie channels. Of course, I dont care for anything but oann and certain kids channels for specific shows. He wont read cth, Ive tried. He thinks Im listening to conspiracy most of the time. I explained shapiro being never trump but he doesnt believe me.

I looked at the candidate filings and was embarrassed for them.
Apparently though not all of their members are on board to go back to work. I also wonder how many of them know they pay her over $90,000 a year.
I’ll be nice. The one who was so angry she was going to start throwing chairs, was one big lady and not just overweight. She also had a really deep voice. If I was a little kid in her class, her sheer size would make me manage my behavior. She kind of scared me just watching and listening to her.
When did grade schools and middle schools start having literacy coaches and behavioral management classes? I guess my kids schools were really underfunded as their schools never had those. 🙂
I am watching the Huckabee show and he had JoDee Messina on singing her new song. All this political stuff is almost too much and this song is a great reminder that He is in charge.
and I am going back to Bagpipe Music and Cajun Zydeco stuff…nothing that will ever be on the phony singing contest cable tv shows like “The Voice” or “America’s Got Talent”…..DW watches that stuff, and I have to leave the room…sometimes the house…..

I think it is. I know I mentioned it before, but both my parents (and many other relatives) worked for Hudson before and through WWII. My mom left in about 1948 or ’49, and my dad sometime in the fifties.
American Motors bought Hudson in 1953 or 54.

It’s at the point where I hate going into a car dealership. I was looking at replacing the Avalanche with a more ‘farm’ truck, one with a bed that was ‘standard’ and had some solid towing power. I went to two major US brand dealers and they kept trying to sell me trucks that were loaded with bells/whistles-farts & darts. After doing everything BUT what I wanted them to do they had the usual ‘sales manager’ come out and say they’ve managed to pare the price down to JUST $45,000 and give me a free key fob!
They, after some hour of wasting my irreplaceable life, when they finally realized I wasn’t going gto buy the glow-in-the-dark plasticized weekend-warrior trucks did say they could get me a bare-bones fleet model at about $25K but it would only have a 3-cylinder motor our of a Bulgarian expresso machine and a three speeec tranny with no reverse. If I wanted a 6-cylinder Americanish engine with a regular tranny it would cost extra – about $45,000 total…BUT they’d throw in an AM radio and driver’s side window that rolled down.
Where are those cars/trucks of yesteryear?

The dreamer in me thinks it could just be replicated, kind of along the lines of how a Checker cab, was pretty much a replicated ’56 Chevy, and barely changed in their production run from 1959-1982.

I’m looking for a big V-8, 2WD with heavy towing capability, I’ll take diesel or gas, fairly good miles-per-gal, standard tranny (deal killer there) and an AM/FM/CD.
I don’t want heated seats, electric steering, plastic body, fancy wheels and trim – the livestock don’t appreciate it and I hate picking thev froo-froo off the ground when normal field work makes it fall off.
We use trucks, beat the truck outta them and these vurban cowboy specials the cost more than my dad’s first house and are made primarily for suburban cowboys to tool around the Home Depot parking lot just don’t cut it.
I had a 64 Chevy that had a posi rear and a 454 under the hood – fed a 4-speed and was geared for work and not speed. Ate gas but it could pull a jihadi off a goat…miss it.

When I was 16 and took my test to get my license, I did everything perfectly right up to the parallel parking. I bumped the pole on the front, and then the poll on the back. I figured I had failed and said so to him. He gave me the license with my promise that I would practice parallel parking more before I ever did it out in public.

I like to impress my daughters by parking in really tight parking spots. The trick is to make sure the bozos on either end have enough room to get out with dinging me. I grew up on a street where parallel parking was the only option.

Where my daughter and SIL lived before they bought their house, I always had to find a street slot. Sometimes they were very tight. They didn’t have permit parking in their neighborhood. They were close to the lake, just off Belmont, a couple of blocks from Sheridan Road. One time it took me 20 minutes to find a place.

I’ve got a one in Wicker Park and one near Wrigley, so you can imagine the parking. I very rarely drive down there anymore, I take amtrak and then walk or take cabs/uber.

My dog gets car sick. I’ve given her dramamine and that helps but now when I go to visit my folks my dad forgets about the dogs and almost always leaves the doors open so it is easier to just leave them home.

Even when I drove an old car I enjoyed parallel parking, I don’t know why. I learned to drive in a big old boat of a car a Lincoln Continental so after that everything seemed small.
The Lincoln was my friend’s boyfriend’s car. Her and I had a lot of fun driving all over. Until. I think we’ll just leave it there. She called me one day and asked if I drove home or if she did, I said I didn’t know, my mom said that she must have dropped me off because the trie tracks in the snow led right up to our front porch stairs which was a city lot away from the street.

When we left Utah I had to leave my ’72 Toyota Landcruiser and ’55 Chevy panel wagon behind. Can’t tell which one I miss more but I do miss ’em both. I can remember jacking that wagon up to change a tire – the whole frame was a jack-point, not like modern plasticars where if you don’t use the ‘approved’ factory jack-point you risk warping the frame.

Love the old cars and all the memories mentioned in the comments today….one of our favorite things as young’uns was that one of us (whoever got there first) would lay on the shelf under the big slanted back window and watch the stars all the way home from relatives’homes, about 45 miles from our farm. What a fantastic view.

This Pope can mess up lots of things, but St. Michael the archangel was given his name, which means who is like God, the legendary battle cry when he led the angels against the one of them who refused to serve and in his pride declared equality with God.
Not even Francis, who sows confusion and dissension because even a pope cannot change what he wants to change, can tarnish Michael.

BTW, each year the Archdiocese of New Orleans holds a ‘Blue Mass’ to honor first responders. The mass includes a formation, in uniform, of police, fire, EMTs and other safety personnel. It’s held at the St Louis cathedral in the Quarter, the iconic one you see in the tourist pictures, and is quite impressive.
It lasted thru Mayor Landrieu’s reign, I guess he thought better of taking on the Church like he did the Confederate statues, and I’m a bit surprised he didn’t try to jiggle it as a sign of a non-progressive mindset. Then again had he and he’d have missed a photo-op and had a city full of religious people to deal with.

1. In a glass measuring cup (one with a pouring spout will work well) put 3 teaspoons of corn starch in the bottom. That is the same as one tablespoon or one big spoonful.
2. Pour in a little bit of corn syrup. Mix the corn starch and corn syrup with a fork until you get a cement like mixture. Then add enough corn syrup until you have 1/2 cup of mixture. Keep stirring to mix in the corn starch thoroughly. I know it sounds funny to add a little corn syrup and then the rest of the corn syrup. You do it in two stages to prevent lumps.
3. Add 1/4 cup of cold water and stir that in. Stir in red food coloring until you get the color you want. A little goes a long way. I use about 10 drops and it looks cool.
4. Cover the cup and put it in the microwave for about 2 minutes on high. Everyone’s microwave is different but you want it to just boil.
5. Take it out, stir it a little and let it cool. I poured mine into a squeeze bottle so that I could apply it as needed.

It sure would be fun to drive around in one like that! We have a lot of car shows around here and I just love the lines of the cars and the fun colors. In the past few years when I’m driving through town and looking at what others drive, I see a lot of white, black, and gray and not much else. We need to bring back fun colors of cars!!!!

the 1959 Caddy Eldo suffered from an early version of airbag suspension. Friends had one that every morning was “sitting down on its haunches” when the rear airbags leaker air and had to repump up when the car was started up.
also known as a “slushmobile” from the oversoft ride and steering.

I studied this in one of my classes. People confuse self confidence and self esteem all of the time. I remember the study and it does tie in with todays “know it all” liberals.

“Well, of course they have.” Jamie had dispersed his flock and made his way up the hill in time to hear this. “How could ye look into a dog’s eyes and doubt it?”
“Good point,” I said. “Though the question was—wait. Why are you wet?” He was barefooted, the hem of his kilt dark and dripping.
“I had to wade out into the creek to fetch wee Orrie Higgins. He took a fright when Myers came into the water, and—“
“John Quincy is in the creek?”
“Aye, washing himself and his clothes. Amy Higgins gave him a bit of soft soap for the job. What is it about dogs’ souls?”
“I was wondering if it’s proper to pray for the soul of a dog,” I explained. “Rollo, you know…”
“If ever I met a dog with a better chance at heaven, I canna recall it.” Jamie shook his head. “He was a good dog.”
“Yes, he was,” Roger agreed. “But I was just telling Claire the views of a priest I knew. He said that dogs are pure love and thus when they die, they’re instantly in the presence of God. So theoretically, they wouldn’t need praying for.”

We had a priest in our NOLA unit, our chaplain, who was Irish, Father Maughan…a real karma encounter for me but that’s another story.
Father Maughan was quite well off and liked to collect antique military weapons, had quite an impressive collection. One day he came in – he was fulltime posted to a small ruralish parish – and told us how his wee small fluffy dog was out tending to the shrubbery when a loose pitbull ran over and bit down on it. The dog was screaming for its life and Father Maughan was frantically trying to figure out what to do.
In a flash he grabbed the closest thing he could, an original Brown Bess musket with bayonet and went after the offending mutt. Getting the pit to drop his dog he then chased it down the street as he wielded an original and high-quality Napoleonic War officer’s saber. The man had class.

He was the one I went on my epic Egyptian desert romp with. Also, there was an unknown relative of his in my Utah unit who was doing his genealogy work, found the Father and called him, out of the blue, a few days before I arrived in NOLA from Utah to discuss relatives. Then there was that instance of his smuggling a case of sacramental wine into a solidly Moslem country….

I think the various reviews are more interesting than the movie, they show more about the reviewer’s politics than the movie itself. I think I’ll wait until it shows up on Netflix. I lived the incident and don’t want to pay a bunch to have someone tell me ‘what really happened’. And I have better/cheaper popcorn in my pantry.

Howie Carr is a virtual encyclopedia on the Kennedys and Chappaquiddick, and he likes it, although he said yesterday on his radio show [1] it leaves out all the cover-up related to the inquest.
I lived in that state and remember this. It just makes me sick teddy is the “lion of the senate”. It just shows how corrupt they, both kennedys and congresscritters, are.
Howie also has the complete story on Mueller etc putting innocent men in prison. He is talking about this NOW.
[1] (3- 6 or 7pm depending on the station). Howie drives me nuts with his interrupting and stuttering, but he is, like I said, and encyclopedia on Mass politics.

Mueller and Comey also screwed up the anthax case after 9-11. The Boston thing was the Whitey Bulger (not sure how it’s spelled). They protected him because he was an informant, and the innocent guys went to jail for years.

Hi everyone!
Todays pic is The Threatened Swan by Jan Asseljin.
Swans can be very aggressive and attack, especially if you go near their cygnets, or perhaps their food. These swans in England are trained however, and have a good life indeed!
“The tradition of Swans on the Moat at ‘The Bishop’s Palace’ (next to Wells Cathedral) goes back to 1870’s, when one of Bishop Hervey’s daughters first taught the swans to ring a bell for lunch to be fed to them by the caretakers who live in the gatehouse. You can see the bell just beneath the window of the Gatehouse, with a rope hanging down for the swans to pull. New generations of swans learn to ring the bell from their parents.”
However if they continue to be bad the below option is available!
A recreated swan buffet at the London Museum called swans on the Thames:
Those are swan casseroles the birds are sitting on. These are fake reproductions because it was a year long museum display. Unless the swans are specially raised, the meat is tough & stringy apparently.

Thy actually aren’t that difficult. The pastry puffs you can buy pre-made, cut in half, cut out the angle of 1 half, fill, and then just bake the swirls for the neck. The meringes are not difficult either.
My dad loves desserts. Once he had a good job and we could afford it, any dessert I wanted to make I could. Every weekend we would pick out a different one I would make. It was fun, and something I had fun sharing with others over the years.

Swans in England trained? I have to laugh at that! When we were in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, for a vacay, I saw a huge flock at the riverside. I’d never seen so many before. About 50 or 60 of them. I told DH I was going to feed the swans, so I ran into a local newspaper shop and bought a loaf of bread. As I headed across the park, I never noticed DH stayed up at the street and just watched.
As I made my way down, a few of them noticed and started towards me. I started tossing bits of bread, so they started running. When the rest of the flock noticed, they ALL started flapping, yelling, and running and they appeared to start getting bigger and bigger! I ended up throwing the whole loaf of bread and turned tail and stated running as fast as I could!
DH was doubled over laughing at me, ’cause he knew what would transpire! I was mad at him for the rest of the day for not warning me. He told me something about a” lesson best learned”, or some sort of British BS!
He said they have powerful enough wings, they can break your arm! 30 years ago, and still seems like yesterday!

LOL That is like feeding the sea gulls. A woman started throwing chips or something to fee the gulls, and a person near her told her that was a really bad idea. She just ignored them an continued…….until she was swamped with the gulls and turned and ran.

There is a town in Mass that had swans in the river going through the town center. They were good about being fed because there is a steep bank and metal fence. One year an older man was canoeing down the river (small – about 80 feet wide at most) and canoed too close to the island where the swans had their babies. They came out, attacked the canoe, overturned it, attacked him, and he drowned. I don’t know if the swans are still there.
This is why the swans at the Boston Public Gardens where the swan boats are, are specially bred and fed by the city. People walk right up to them and feed them.

swans are beautiful to look at, but the serenity factor is a myth….they are vicious attack birds and rapists…who will chase you and attack you if you appear to violate their territory.
My son’s college campus in Greenville SC has a beautiful lake and clock tower setting that in on campus and incredible…but the if the swans are out…DO NOT take out a canoe into the water….

Oh no Stella 🙂 You do what you had planned. I appreciate and thank you for your thoughtfulness! Baby animals are such a winner, I can always do them again later in the year. I have nothing bookmarked for them yet.
I had found a list of flowers by state and at some point was going to put the state flower of Stellars as paintings. I could use them as Gil suggested, pair them with Czar’s suggestion of Escher (since they are all black and white drawings) as a counterpoint, and to liven up the post with color
So for states do we have:
Michigan, NH, Calif, Montana, Oklahoma, Florida, Louisiana? I don’t know where else. If you want your state flower shown please just let me know. 🙂
This is a very busy weekend for me, so I’ll just start with the ones I find 1st 🙂
Maybe asking Stellars for suggestions at the beginning of one week for the next week will be fun. 🙂 If I can’t find something, that will give us time to choose something else!

Thank You! I knew there were Stellars in Florida. For some reason I thought Wooly was in Colorado, but I am usually wrong about these things. It’s not just here either, it’s the same in real life.
BTW Sooo happy Wooly is getting a job outside of food service where there is alcohol, and that he is improving. Thank God!

I’m guessing sadly a lot of people will be moving in from Vermont, if the law suit against the new gun restrictions fails. Geesh! Talk about stupid – they have had the most classically “liberal” gun laws in the country for over 200 hundred years, and have enjoyed very low crime. Now they are restricting guns because of crime in other states! SMH

He painted today. I got him some new brushes so he had to try them. He doesnt like coloring books. He does abstract art with cutting pictures and using scotch tape. Likes watercolor abstract a lot.

I am watching “The Fabulous Life of Elisabeth Vigee Labrun”. It has been so interesting. I didn’t realize that women were famous painters and that I was familiar with some of her paintings. It is about her life and her paintings and the politics of the era. I thought maybe you might be interested in it. I am watching it on Amazon Prime. She was a fascinating woman.

WOW! What beautiful portraits, and she was beautiful as well. Thank you for letting me know about her. LaBrun has wonderful expression in her portraits.
Portraits are not necessarily more difficult than landscape painting for example, but ARE more difficult when the client sees a well done painting they think does not look like them, even if it is accurate. I can do portraits, I do not want to do them because of this.
I was not sure Stellars would be interested in a seriesof roccoco/neoclassical portraits. I have some bookmarked, but brighter, more modern themes seem more popular to Stellars. That’s a big part of the reason why I’m asking for suggestions. I do not want to spend 4 or more hours a week setting up art posts that people do not enjoy.
Once again, thanks for letting me know about her. Her paintings are a lesson in facial expressions.

I didn’t know that women could make money painting back then. Her portraits, especially the ones of Marie Antoinette, are so beautiful. I am not all that interested in movies like this, usually. But, the way it was done was so beautiful and interesting. You saw how she learned to paint, how she taught, her life which included having to leave France to 15 years, and all that was going on in the world at the time. Very well done.

I enjoy them. Even if you don’t have time to do the editing, I like seeing something an artist likes which was done by another artist. Just a taste of an artist. I get over whelmed in a gallery or museum: too much at one time.

Does anyone have a list of reliable more traditional news sites and journo bloggers that I may give to Mr Gil? He listens to ben shapiro, fix, oann, and I dont know what else. He keeps saying he wants all the cable news, now wants netflix, and all the movie channels. Of course, I dont care for anything but oann and certain kids channels for specific shows. He wont read cth, Ive tried. He thinks Im listening to conspiracy most of the time. I explained shapiro being never trump but he doesnt believe me.
Hes willing to get a cheaper tv service at least.

I go here, Gateway Pundit, and another site he may not like – DCClotheline. DCClothesline has ome odd posts, and I do not like about half the comments, but I have found over the years, the info that seems really strange shown here 1st, more often than not, shows up as valid months or years later in the more well known outlets.
Other than that GraniteGrok – useful to out of staters during presidential campaigns [1], and when I have the time others including Canada Free press.
[1] If you can believe it Martin Omalley, Kasich (the unwanted hugger and endless eater) and others are already here! Eyeroll.

I’ve been busy most of the day and came in and saw breaking news walkout ends. Of course it does, candidate filings end tomorrow and they got several democrats and pretend Republicans, most teachers, to file. They should have taught them how to spell Representative and that they’re running for Representative or Senator, not Legislature or Legislator. I looked at the candidate filings and was embarrassed for them.
Apparently though not all of their members are on board to go back to work. I also wonder how many of them know they pay her over $90,000 a year.

I’ll be nice. The one who was so angry she was going to start throwing chairs, was one big lady and not just overweight. She also had a really deep voice. If I was a little kid in her class, her sheer size would make me manage my behavior. She kind of scared me just watching and listening to her.
When did grade schools and middle schools start having literacy coaches and behavioral management classes? I guess my kids schools were really underfunded as their schools never had those. 🙂
