There’s an unsubstantiated rumor that while the House Judiciary Committee was working on Nixon’s impeachment it needed a lawyer so vile, so void of any discernible shred of human decency, so unprincipled, immoral that they were sure its likes didn’t even exist in Washington.
They picked a trusted office ghoul to find one, gave him unlimited resources and turned him loose. He thought about it and, in the dead of night, he went out, found a yelt, sent it to an ivy league law school and brought it back to DC. It wasn’t long before the Geppettos found their Pinocchio too repulsive for even their purposes and turned it loose in the wilds of the Beltway.
From time to time it’s seen crashing through DC, shredding laws and trying to feed at every trough it can get its over-madeup snout into…some say it’s a legend and some say it’s just waiting in the shadows with its mate to wreak havoc and eat everyone else’s swill. Only time will tell…

Good Morning and Good Evening, gentle men and ladies! I’m checking out for the night, so I’ll try not to get entangled before I actually remove myself from the computer!
The Day in (Mostly) American History: March 22
1622: First American Indian (Powhattan) massacre of Europeans in Jamestown Virginia, 347 killed
1630: First colonial legislation prohibiting gambling enacted (Boston)
1765: Stamp Act imposed on American colonies Hoping to raise sufficient funds to defend the vast new American territories won from the French in the Seven Years’ War, the British government passes the notorious Stamp Act on this day in 1765. The legislation levied a direct tax on all materials printed for commercial and legal use in the colonies, including everything from broadsides and insurance policies to playing cards and dice.
Three critical political forces came into being during the Stamp Act crisis that would serve to advance the cause of rebellion ten years later. First, the Sons of Liberty—a group of tradesmen who led the riots in Boston and other seaboard cities—was established. Second, the formation of the Stamp Act Congress united politically active gentlemen across colonial boundaries, as the Continental Congress would again do in 1774. Finally, the non-importation agreements developed in response to the Stamp Act gave the colonial population a sense of power as consumers of British goods
1790: Thomas Jefferson becomes the first US Secretary of State under President Washington.
1794: Congress bans US vessels from supplying slaves to other countries
1841: Cornstarch patented (Orlando Jones)
1871: William Holden of NC becomes first governor removed by impeachment
1872: Illinois becomes first state to require sexual equality in employment
1903: Niagra Falls runs out of water because of a drought
1914: The St. Petersburg–Tampa Airboat Line becomes the world’s first scheduled airline
1917: The USA is the first nation to recognize the new government of Russia
1929: USCG vessel sank Canadian schooner suspected of carrying liquor
1933: FDR makes wine & beer with up to 3.2% alcohol legal FDR considered the new law “of the highest importance” for its potential to generate much-needed federal funds and included it in a sweeping set of New Deal policies designed to vault the U.S. economy out of the Great Depression. The Beer and Wine Revenue act was followed, in December 1933, by the passage of the 21st Amendment, which officially ended Prohibition.
1935: Blood tests authorized as evidence in court cases (NY)
1941: Grand Coulee Dam in Washington goes into operation
1941: James Stewart is inducted into the Army, becoming the first major American movie star to wear a military uniform in World War II
1944: 600+ 8th Air Force bombers attack Berlin
1944: American movie star Jimmy Stewart flies his 12th combat mission, leading the 2nd Bomb Wing in an attack on Berlin
1945: Arab League forms with adoption of a charter in Cairo Egypt Representatives from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Transjordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Yemen meet in Cairo to establish the Arab League, a regional organization of Arab states. Formed to foster economic growth in the region, resolve disputes between its members, and coordinate political aims, members of the Arab League formed a council, with each state receiving one vote. When the State of Israel was created in 1948, the league countries jointly attacked but were repulsed by the Israelis. Two years later, Arab League nations signed a mutual defense treaty. Fifteen more Arab nations eventually joined the organization, which established a common market in 1965.
1946: First US rocket to leave the Earth’s atmosphere (50 miles up)
1947: President Harry Truman signs executive order calling for loyalty
Truman’s loyalty program resulted in the discovery of only a few employees whose loyalty could be “reasonably” doubted. Nevertheless, for a time his order did quiet some of the criticism that his administration was “soft” on communism. Matters changed dramatically in 1949-1950. The Soviets developed an atomic bomb, China fell to the communists, and Senator Joseph McCarthy made the famous speech in which he declared that there were over 200 “known communists” in the Department of State. Once again, charges were leveled that the Truman administration was “coddling” communists, and in response, the Red Scare went into full swing.
1954: First shopping mall opened in Southfield, Michigan
1954: Closed since 1939, the London bullion market reopens.
1958: USSR performs nuclear test at Novaya Zemlya USSR
1960: First patent for lasers granted to Arthur Schawlow & Charles Townes
1963: Beatles release first album, “Please Please Me”
1963: British Minister of War John Profumo denies having sex with Christine Keeler
1965: [Vietnam] US confirms its troops used chemical warfare against the Vietcong. The State Department acknowledges that the United States had supplied the South Vietnamese armed forces with a “non-lethal gas which disables temporarily” for use “in tactical situations in which the Viet Cong intermingle with or take refuge among non-combatants, rather than use artillery or aerial bombardment.” This announcement triggered a storm of criticism worldwide. The North Vietnamese and the Soviets loudly protested the introduction of “poison gas” into the war. Secretary of State Dean Rusk insisted at a news conference on March 24 that the United States was “not embarking upon gas warfare,” but was merely employing “a gas which has been commonly adopted by the police forces of the world as riot-control agents.”
This is different than Agent Orange, which was a chemical defoliant containing the toxic chemical dioxin. Agent Orange was a powerful mixture of chemical defoliants used by U.S. military forces during the Vietnam War to eliminate forest cover for North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops, as well as crops that might be used to feed them. The U.S. program of defoliation, codenamed Operation Ranch Hand, sprayed more than 19 million gallons of herbicides over 4.5 million acres of land in Vietnam from 1961 to 1972. Agent Orange, which contained the chemical dioxin, was the most commonly used of the herbicide mixtures, and the most effective. It was later revealed to cause serious health issues–including tumors, birth defects, rashes, psychological symptoms and cancer–among returning U.S. servicemen and their families as well as among the Vietnamese population.
1967: Muhammad Ali KOs Zora Folley in 7 for heavyweight boxing title
1968: [Vietnam] Westmoreland to depart South Vietnam One of the war’s most controversial figures, General Westmoreland was given many honors when the fighting was going well, but when the war turned sour, many Americans blamed him for problems in Vietnam. Negative feeling about Westmoreland grew particularly strong following the Tet Offensive of 1968.
1971: USSR performs nuclear test at Eastern Kazakh/Semipalitinsk USSR
1972: Equal Rights Act passed through Congress and sent to the States for ratification. The Act failed to garner the 38 States’ ratification necessary to pass into law. First proposed by the National Woman’s political party in 1923, the Equal Rights Amendment was to provide for the legal equality of the sexes and prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex. More than four decades later, the revival of feminism in the late 1960s spurred its introduction into Congress.
1972: In Eisenstadt v. Baird the US Supreme Court rules unmarried people have same right to contraception as married people.
1975: Walt Disney World Shopping Village opens
1975: A fire at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant in Decatur, Alabama causes dangerous lowering of cooling water levels.
1978: France performs nuclear test
1981: US first class postage raised to 18 cents from 15 cents
1981: Soyuz 39 carries 2 cosmonauts (1 Mongolian) to Salyut 6
1982: 3rd Space Shuttle Mission-Columbia 3 launched
1982: Iran offensive against Iraq
1983: The origins of the Hummer On this day in 1983, the Pentagon awards a production contract worth more than $1 billion to AM General Corporation to develop 55,000 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV). Nicknamed the Humvee and designed to transport troops and cargo, the wide, rugged vehicles entered the spotlight when they were used by the American military during the 1989 invasion of Panama and the Persian Gulf War in the early 1990s.

News Corp. and NBC also planned to make video of TV shows and movies available on a separate Web site. The site would be supported by advertisers and free to viewers, who could edit the available content and post their own, as well as buy downloads of movies made by 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios. Stella has suggested Tara Ross’ website for more detailed American History. Ms. Ross is an author and a constitutionalist who publishes, on her website, “This day in American History”. She writes quite well and I’ve also become a fan. While, because of time issues, I cannot incorporate Ms. Ross’ writings here, I do suggest subscribing to her web newsletter for historical information in depth in your morning email. The signup for her newsletter is at http://www.taraross.com/

Hey, Cetera, responding to yesterday’s question on the open:
Your comments at VD’s site are top notch. Kudos.

Thanks, Wooly. I think someone may need to come in from time to time and let them know they aren’t all that special. They all have an egregiously high opinion of themselves. They all like to tout their IQ scores.
I’m smart, I do OK. I can reason, and do research, and argue. If VD’s IQ really is as high as he says it is, I’m not even borderline close. I’m smarter than average, and that plus a dollar will get me a cheeseburger at McD’s (I don’t drink coffee, gross!).

I pretty much just read over there. When I comment, it’s seldom erudite, so I don’t, unless it’s to offer that community a link to something they might find of value.
I like to read above my head. I seldom comment at Ace either. I’m not that funny, so I leave it to the pros, and just read and spread his links, too.
I tend to agree with most of the 16 points of the Alt Right, and with most of what Vox says (that I understand). And I certainly don’t like seeing my nation get violated, while I stand aside and look.

Exactly. Same question many Americans ask about others who occupy seats in congress every single day. There ought to be an intelligence test required and they should have to fully understand the constitution and apply it. Also, make them take the same citizenship classes immigrants take. May not make a difference, but who knows. It’s scary that these idiots represent us.

Naw, she’s a great shot and good with a shotgun. I’ll be putting 1.75″ shotshells into this FIREARM (it ain’t a shotgun) so recoil will be minimal. Within its intended range the smaller shells will work fine and allow an extended capacity. I’m also looking at adding a slip-on textured rubber grip that will provide…well..extra grip.

If a person we’re not allowed to describe uses a baseball bat to attack one of us, will the press call him the “Batman”?

Brits already have a native definition for ‘batman’ so their press will have to be Robin the dictionary for another term.

I did a search, and yes, “knifeman” has been used in the news for a while.
I wonder if the words “knifewoman” or “gunwoman” have ever been used by the press in a printed story.
Why can’t they just go with “attacker” or “killer”?
I’ll tell you: because that wouldn’t serve the narrative as much as mentioning a gun (or knife) and a man would serve the narrative.

Seems that a barbarian in a car ran people over on Westminster Bridge. A man also tried to enter parliament where he attacked a police officer with a knife, the man was shot dead. It is unknown whether or not it is the same man who ran people over on the bridge as the man who tried to enter parliament. An eyewitness to the bridge attack said that the timing of the gun shots does not rule out the bridge savage from the being the parliament savage.
Between 8 -10 victims can be seen prostrate own the bridge.

BTW, shooter in video is using a Glock and unless you have an aftermarket barrel in it you’ll have problems. Due to the Glock’s lands/groves you’ll shear lead and deposit it in the barrel requiring frequent strenuous cleaning or you have the risk of a major failure when you fire a jacketed bullet. You can shoot some in an emergency but for practice shooting use a jacketed bullet or buy an aftermarket barrel from someone like Lone Wolf.

Some folks are wondering why a 17 year old and 18 year old were in the 9th grade in a public high school. Simple answer. Government benefits stop at the age of 18 if you are not enrolled in school. So we have 2 young men who will be eligible for government benefits until they are 20 and 21 so long as they say on the enrollment list in school.
Two savages rape a 14 year old legal immigrant and the savages have supporters for their plight. Amazing.

I’ve noticed the nuanced spinning of answers from the potential wrongdoer’s apologists from day one. Let’s face it, very little, if any, of the ‘metadata’ traveling from or to the US is not ‘captured’ by US intelligence, in the first-person or otherwise. We also have the potential excuse that since the switches which handle possible bad guy comms going to or coming from ‘X’ countries also handle regular civilian comms in NYC that Trump’s and his staff’s’ comms could have been picked up incidentally but certainly weren’t targeted for interception. BFD, regardless of how they were intercepted they were open to exploitation by the intel and LEA agencies.

Nunes is on TV saying that there was definitely surveillance by the government of Trump at Trump Tower and that some of it seems to be suspect and at some level politically motivated. President Trump and his people were caught up as incidental intelligence and that they were included and unmasked in intelligence reports.
Nunes says that the unmasking of names was totally inappropriate and there needs to be an answer as to why they were unmasked and why they were included in an intelligence report. Nunes said we are investigating whether the surveillance was conducted properly.

Ahh the things that get buried in your mind and get jogged loose by a stray cosmic ray.
I have a set of CDs that date back to just after 911 that were distributed to teach a Moslem version of a Silat-based fighting system. It was developed in the South Pacific area, those of you familiar with Filipino/Indonesian Silat would recognize it.
The disks go heavily into offensive and defensive uses of bladed weapons, a most likely weapon in areas where weapons are heavily regulated. I can’t put them on-line for a number of reasons, not the least of which is I don’t have permissions to redistribute them, but the idea of Moslem terrs using knives to attack police, military abd civilians didn’t just drop out of the sky, like 911 it’s been out there in one form or another for a while.
