    I had heard this statistic previously, but went to ChatGPT to see what “they” say. I had heard that almost all of our national debt (exclusive of long-term liabilities for Medicare and SS) was roughly equivalent to what we’ve spent on LBJ’s “War on Poverty”. Here’s what they say –

    “Using Congressional Budget Office and federal budget data, economists estimate that cumulative spending on federal means-tested anti-poverty programs has now reached approximately:

    or roughly $35–40 trillion in nominal dollars, depending on the accounting method used. Or $30–35 trillion (inflation-adjusted dollars)”

    Comes out pretty darn close according to this info.
