    Good mornin’, and happy Sunday. Since this is one of those times when we have three holidays in a row, and a BIG one coming up, I figured we need lots of energy. So I found the workhorse. Twin 10 gallon tanks and powered by NatGas! Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

      The American Thinker piece references a “Coffee and Covid” Article. It’s well worth reading.

      The summation by Judge Lawrence VanDyke of his colleagues ire regarding his dissent in the case of a Korean Christian spa is a gem.

      Sometimes “dignified and civil” words are employed to mask a legal abomination. Or, to put it in vernacular perhaps more palatable to my colleagues’ Victorian sensibilities: “In law, what plea so tainted and corrupt, / But, being seasoned with a gracious voice, / Obscures the show of evil?”

    Beautiful Little bird Stella. Funny laughs Menagerie & Wee – I’m printing the ‘Jesus was a morning person’ to help me try to sleep earlier so I can wake up earlier. Tex – that’s like the coffee maker we had at the restaurant I waitressed at when I was younger. I had to stand on a step stool to fill it with water it was so big! You may appreciate my dear hubby’s quick Halloween costume 1 year: regular casual clothes, carrying a cereal box with a knife jabbed into it 😉

    So, NH is very big for maple trees & now it’s tapping season! If anyone is in the area here’s tapping event info:

    Maple tree tapping in NH for 2026 is underway, with sap flow beginning in late February & early March due to fluctuating temperatures between freezing nights & above-freezing days. The official Maple Month in NH runs throughout March, with Maple Weekend celebrated on March 21–22, 2026, as the peak event.

    Key Tapping & Maple Events in 2026

    • Tapping Season: Sap flow began in mid-February, with many producers starting their first boils by early March. The ideal conditions—temperatures above 40°F during the day & below freezing at night—are currently supporting strong sap flow.
    • Maple Weekend (March 21–22, 2026): Over 70 sugar shacks across the state open their doors for tours, demonstrations, tastings, & family activities. Highlights include:
      • Trail Side Sugar House (Andover): Live boiling demos, pancake breakfasts, & syrup samples (8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily).
      • Charmingfare Farm (Candia): Horse-drawn wagon rides, hands-on tapping, & maple tastings (10:30 a.m.–3 p.m. daily).
      • The Rocks (White Mountains): NH Maple Experience tours (10 a.m.–2 p.m. on March 14, 21, & 28).
      • Prescott Farm (Laconia): Hands-on “Tap Into Maple” programs on March 7, 14, 21, & 28 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.).
      • Ben’s Sugar Shack: (Temple): Free, fun educational tours every March Sat & Sun 10am-4pm
    • Special Events:
      • NH Ag in the Classroom Maple Symposium (January 23, 2026): Focused on tapping techniques & syrup grading.
      • NHMaple Producers Association: Hosted the 2025 Governor’s Tapping Ceremony (symbolic kickoff).

    Practical Tips for Tapping

    • Best Time to Tap: Late February to mid-March, when sap is flowing & temperatures are consistent.
    • Tapping Method: Traditional methods (hand-drilling, buckets) & modern tubing systems are used. Some farms like Stockman Original use no plastic or power drills.
    • Tree Selection: Tap mature maples (30–40 years old), using proper tools & techniques to avoid tree damage.

    For those interested in participating, many farms offer guided tapping experiences, & tours & programs are available. Check farm websites or the NHMaple Producers Association directory for full details.

      Amen! Good morning G&C. I think I mentioned recently that I have one of those beautiful bottles, a gift from my truck driving son, from one of his many trips up through New England. I always intended to refill it and use it with the maple syrup I keep, but it’s put away. I’m thinking it would be a lovely vase for a small fall floral or leaf arrangement.

    Many moons ago, I did some traveling and spent some time in the NE United States. One stop was one of these sugar shacks where we did a tour. I had no idea that it took 35-40 gallons of sap to make a gallon of syrup. Fascinating, and also learned about the various grades as well. Haven’t had any Mrs. Butterworth syrup since then.

      I haven’t had a tour like that, but I figure if I’m using syrup, it’s going to be the real thing. Except for pecan pie. There are one or two recipes out there to make pecan pie with maple syrup, but my one try was an epic failure.

    National Kansas Day

    National Everything You Think You Know is Wrong Day – recognizes a day where decision-making should be avoided, as your thoughts are (according to the founder of this holiday) wrong. It is also a day created for some people to realize that they are not always right.

    St Joseph’s Day – a big deal in NO, due to the Sicilian and Italian heritage. altars, cookies, parades…
