Good mornin’, and happy Monday. We’re in the home stretch and I thought I better help keep us in the mood. These are harder to find than I thought, but they’re out there. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

Saturnalia – obviously tied to the winter solstice. The first day the sun stops setting earlier and the days start getting longer. Eat drink and be merry for we are not going to all die (right away).

National Date Nut Bread Day – Believed to have originated around Iraq, dates have been a staple food of the Middle East and the Indus Valley for thousands of years. They have been cultivated since ancient times from Mesopotamia to prehistoric Egypt, possibly as early as 4000 BCE.

Forefathers’ Day – Each year, Forefathers’ Day commemorates the landing of the Pilgrim Fathers in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on December 21, 1620. The Old Colony Club of Plymouth, Massachusetts, introduced the observance in 1769. The town observes the holiday on December 22nd

Good day to you, Czarina! I’ll go with “Forefathers’ Day” but I’ll add in “Foremothers” just to keep Massachusetts lefties from burning down the Old Colony Club of Plymouth. Maybe their celebration will include date nut bread along with their traditional beer.

Re Saturnalia, From AI: “To celebrate Saturnalia, an ancient Roman festival, consider these festive practices:

Decorate homes with greenery and lights to create a festive atmosphere.

Exchange gifts, especially candles and figurines, symbolizing light and joy.

Host feasts with abundant food and drink, emphasizing merriment and indulgence.

Wear festive clothing, often including togas or colorful garments, to embrace the celebratory spirit.

Engage in role reversals, where social norms are upended, allowing slaves and masters to switch roles.

Participate in games and merriment, including dice games and singing, to foster community and fun.”

Mornin’ All. It is in the mid 30’s and we got a small smattering of snow last night. It just looks partly cloudy so far today.

Winter is here. Stay warm and finish up you Christmas chores.
