Good mornin’, and happy Monday! Our friends in MN, not the ones in the Cities, made a big pot of coffee this morning. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

More on the theme of fall in Georgia mountain towns. I know, NE Tennessee is known for Gatlinburg, Sevierville, and the Smokies, but trust me on this, and head into Georgia. Some are more touristy than others, but all have as much or more natural beauty as that around Gatlinburg, and fewer people. Add Dawsonville to this list. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend Amicalola Fass State Park. Very nice lodge there with a wondered view of mountains forever from all the rooms as well as a huge veranda with rocking chairs. It has a great restaurant and cabins if you prefer.

Now there is one fall road trip I try to make every year from Tennessee. Drive the Cherohala Skyway from Tellico Plains over to Robbinsville, NC. Allow a bit of time to poke around tiny Tellico Plains, stop at this awesome bakery they have (Tellico Grains) and carry you a bag of treats up into the mountains to enjoy at a picnic table with a scenic view. I recommend Indian Boundary for that halfway snack.

I have not seen this whole beautiful country of ours, but I’ve had trips into New England in the fall, every bit of it, the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia, the Mid Atlantic states, all over the south, the Ozarks, Sierras, desert in Nevada and California, the wine country in California. If I had only one last trip to choose, it would be that drive.

It’s a don’t miss trip, and though Robbinsville is not a scenic place, keep going a bit into NC to Fontana Lake.

Time to hit the roads soon!

Mornin’ All. Woke up to 40* and a little bit of sun. It is going to warm up to a toasty 50* later. Guess I need another blanket on the bed…….and to close the bedroom window.

Hope you all are having nice weather and pretty scenery.

Has anyone here had to use Medicare to get eyeglasses recently? I have been trying to figure out the cheapest place to get them and it always leads back to Walmart.

Two years ago, with my Advantage plan, but I have the lowest tier of coverage. Exam, one set of lenses and one frame every two years, I think.

Well, I am supposed to have $200 for glasses, but they only pay for places on their list and no extras. Guess I will just have to take my prescription in and see what I can get covered.

Depends on the plan you have. They all use national chains like Walmart and EyeMed. The problem is that most eyewear is owned by one conglomerate and it’s hard to find anything “cheap”. But you can take your prescription to another eye place like Costco and then submit a claim to your insurance company. A good Medicare agent can help you with that.
