I took one year of German in high school (and 3 years of French). There are pluses and minuses to both. Here is a linguist that I follow. He is British, living in Germany, and speaks fluent German and French.

Mornin’ All. Sunny and bright out today, but a little chilly. All in all, not a bad day.
The people downstairs have always left a light on all night on their patio. I had no problem with that, but now they have added a string of lights and they are very bright. I woke up last night and was lying there expecting the sun to come up completely. It was about 3:30 I guess when I woke up. So, now I am looking for a way to put another curtain up over the mini blinds to block some of the light. I don’t mind some light in the room, but this is ridiculous. Seems a pretty easy fix, though.
