Day FORTY-EIGHT of Presidential recovery.

Today is International Women’s Day (Do they still define ‘woman’ the same way?). Originally to celebrate the women’s rights movement, giving focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

I prefer to celebrate it in my own way, honoring women of character and accomplishment. What women do you identify as earning that honor?

10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Proverbs 31 is the final chapter of the Book of Proverbs in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. It consists of two main sections: the first nine verses, where King Lemuel’s mother advises him on how a just king should reign, and the remaining verses, which detail the attributes of a good wife or ideal woman, also known as Eshet Ḥayil.34

The chapter is an acrostic poem, with each verse beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It emphasizes the importance of a woman’s industriousness, business acumen, kindness, and wisdom, all of which are attributed to her “fear of the L ORD”.

    Stellars….

There are many women whose determination, accomplishment and work ethic are very admirable. Here are a few I also admire for what is known about them as people.

Agatha Christie (1890 – 1976) “And Then There Were None”, “Murder On the Orient Express”

    Susan B. Anthony (1820 – 1906) – Women’s rights, anti-slavery.

    Margaret Bourke-White (1904 – 1971) Photographer and war correspondent.

    Mary Cassatt (1844 – 1926) – Painter

Good morning everyone. Sunny today, but rain is coming. I’m trying to decide if I want to mess with plants this year. Probably not.

Good morning Menagerie! I will definitely be starting plants this year, as my DD gave me many accessories for my Greenstalk as Christmas presents. I think it’s fun to start plants from seed, but that won’t happen for another two or three weeks here.

What did you get? And what would do you put in it? I’m following recommendations on the Greenstalk site, but sure not getting great results.

She got me some plant supports, a frost cover, and some metal plant markers. Where my Greenstalk is located I don’t get full sun all day (shaded by a tree in the afternoon), which I think is easier on the plants. Watering a lot and periodically fertilizing is important too.

Last year I grew tomatoes, parsley, sage and basil. I have heard that strawberries do really well.

I’m thinking about planting some bulbs, but I am going to have to find out a lot about them. In the South, they pretty much were annuals because they would just rot in the summer. At least they did for me.

For those who are interested in Gene Hackman’s death:

His wife died of Hanta virus on approximately February 11, but Gene Hackman did not die until about February 17. His death was caused by severe heart disease; he also had advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

This makes me very sad. No one checked on them for so long. My friend was asked by a relative of a friend of hers who lived out of state to check on her friend. She went over to find him dead and was very upset by the experience. But, it needs to be done.

It’s simply so terribly sad and haunting. When people are super private like the Hackmans were, often even family doesn’t check in very much. Gene’s children relied upon Betsy to keep them informed.

And, of course, Betsy apparently assumed the flu-like symptoms she had were just that…the flu. She likely didn’t go to the doctor for it. I’d wager that most people in New Mexico don’t think about hantavirus at all. Honestly, I never even heard of hantavirus being in California and yet when I looked it up after these sad deaths I learned people get sick from it there. We used to get rats in our ivy and our cats would catch them. Just now I checked and people die from hantavirus in Idaho, of all places! Let’s hope this is a wakeup call for everyone.

Re your friend being asked to check up on a person not known to her personally, it would be very difficult to refuse to do so. For that reason I would never ask anyone to perform such a task. Always, always call the police department and request a welfare check. Let professionals handle it.

My family wanted me to check out 24/7 care facilities to move into so I wouldn’t be alone in case of emergency. Well, the prices are outrageous even for below par facilities. According to what I’ve found online, I’m not eligible for any public assistance. I fully understand that there has to be a monetary cut-off at some point to get Medicaid. But I’d truly like to see President Trump make home nursing assistance, 24/7 care, and hospice care a part of Medicare. Now that Medicare is being DOGEd, perhaps with the savings they’ll get from cutting out fraud and inefficiency there will be monies available.

Actually, I didn’t make that very clear. She knew the man and had tried to call him. I think she checked on him just about every day anyway, but on the phone. Another thing that upset her so was that he always wore a lot of heavy gold necklaces and rings and he didn’t have any on. She believes someone hit him over the head, killed him, and stole his jewelry. But, the police were not interested because he was so old.

My son and dil expect contact with me every day – just a text exchange at minimum. They call it proof of life. I’m glad for that.

They also have phone numbers of some of my neighbors.

a friend and I talk daily morning and evening. We have friends or family to call for concerns. She has a neighbor’s number who agreed to check on me.

I have seen many people at the hospitals who have been “found down” after a stroke, fall or such.

The fiance of my step-granddaughter in Colorado died from hantavirus last spring. At first he assumed it was flu, but it quickly became so horrible that it was obviously not. He ended up in ICU for weeks. They thought they had him stabilized. They sent him home with “appropriate” home health support care. He died of a heart attack in the middle of the night with absolutely no warning.

The whole thing was a nightmare and (medically) a losing proposition from beginning to end. He was about 35 years old. Neither during nor after would the hospital answers questions that my s-granddaugther or his immediate family had. They were very, very paranoid and and also sloppy in their care protocols. Major hospital in the Denver area.

Lots of questions. Absolutely no answers.

Afternoon All. It is almost warm here. It is expected to get up into the 50’s. We don’t get too much of breeze right here because of the slope of the big hill on one side and the trees on the other side. But, the sun is out and it is a beautiful day.

    Enjoy the day.
