Good morning everyone. Ready to celebrate today! I might have had a wee bit of my other favorite drink during the game last night.

Now I must face the awful reality. I have done no cleaning and preparation for Christmas. At least I don’t have to have the dinner here!

Biden considers commuting the sentences of federal death row inmates: report

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-eyes-commuting-sentences-federal-death-row-inmates-report

As President Biden’s term comes to an end, he is reportedly considering commuting the sentences of most, if not all, of the 40 men on the federal government’s death row.

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that the move would frustrate President-elect Trump’s plan to streamline executions as he takes office in January.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, who oversees federal prisons, recommended that Biden commute all but a handful of egregious sentences, the sources said.

The outlet reported that possible exceptions could include Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 2013 Boston Marathon bomber who killed three and wounded more than 250; Robert Bowers, who killed 11 people in the 2018 attack on the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh; and Dylann Roof, who in 2015 killed nine at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Those who could see their death sentences commuted to life in prison include an ex-Marine who killed two young girls and later a female naval officer, a Las Vegas man convicted of kidnapping and killing a 12-year-old girl, a Chicago podiatrist who fatally shot a patient to keep her from testifying in a Medicare fraud investigation and two men convicted in a kidnapping-for-ransom scheme that resulted in the killings of five Russian and Georgian immigrants.

The move came after Biden, a lifelong Catholic, spoke with Pope Francis Thursday. In his weekly prayer, Pope Francis asked for the commutation of America’s condemned inmates.

I saw this earlier, and it makes my skin crawl. While not anti-Catholic, I’m not a big fan of the Big Guy running that show. I think he might ought to keep his mouth shut until he lectures the Chi-Coms on their human rights issues before suggesting what we do in this Country, especially when directing his missives at such a compliant Catholic as Brain-Freeze.

        More:

A Maryland woman dubbed the “Black Widow” for murdering two husbands and a boyfriend for insurance money is now free after President Joe Biden commuted her 40-year prison sentence, undercutting the White House’s claim that Biden released only “non-violent” offenders in a clemency bonanza last week.

Among the 1,500 federal convicts granted clemency was Josephine Virginia Gray, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison in 2002 for insurance fraud schemes connected to the murders of three men between 1974 and 1996. Gray was resentenced to the same amount of time again in 2006 following a series of appeals.

Gray, who collected $165,000 from the three insurance settlements, was charged with murder by Maryland state authorities but ultimately convicted in federal court in 2002 for insurance fraud for violating what’s known as the “slayers rule,” which prohibits killers from receiving inheritance and insurance proceeds from their victims’ death. Witnesses at Gray’s various trials accused her of using intimidation tactics—including threats of voodoo—to coerce them into remaining silent. “It was the witchcraft, mostly,” Lenron Goode, the brother of Gray’s third victim, told the Washington Post in 2002.

Gray did not face a murder trial in state court after Maryland’s state attorney said her hefty federal sentence “ensures she will die in prison.”

Afternoon All. It was in the 20’s last night. Normal here for this time of year. And, it has been sunny with a few clouds up until a minute ago and now it looks like it might get overcast. But, then, that might blow over. Who knows?

Got my key yesterday and checked out the apt. The “cleaning lady” must have “cleaned” with a half empty feather duster, didn’t touch the windows or window sills, and even the inside of the cabinets in the kitchen weren’t wiped at all. I was told she was specifically told to clean the cobwebs from around the door outside. Well, those spiders must have been hard at work afterwards if she did do it. So, she is coming back Monday for a redo. I can’t make up my mind whether to be there or not. I am leaning mostly to “not”.

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

    Czarina,

Hope your first day back to work went well. It takes some time to get back into the routine.

Tex, trust your new routine is working well, since you’re still posting, despite your misgivings about Mrs. Tex’s adjusting to the new schedule.

Aus, you have a every tenant’s right to a clean apartment upon move-in. Management should have inspected the work. And they should be informed when work is substandard, as well as praised when things are done well. Good for you. Like Stella, I wish you much happiness in your new home.

Wee’s in fine form. Christina Crawford did get even… that was a wire-hanger of a book.

Menagerie, Yes, the “public” can be fickle indeed.

Miss Stella and all, good luck with the last of the Christmas preparations.
