First of all, there is a phrase from Milton Friedman that I think is sublime in the context of this topic:
“A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither.”
“A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.”
Even John Stuart Mill pointed this out:
“A society that obsesses with equality sooner or later becomes a society of looters and falls apart.”
That is the story of Argentina.

Indeed.
A Superbowl lineman, Kentucky Derby jockey, Nobel scientist, street bum, you, & I are not & will never be equal physically, intellectually, or financially, but none of us has the inherent Right to rule the others, or violate their Rights.
In that, we are all equal.

Agree. The better word would be “equity”; demanding equal outcome.

ADD: It’s also important to point out that the intent isn’t to diminish equality, but that freedom is more important.
