Red sun in the morning, sailors take warning. Red sun at night, sailor’s delight. What a delightful sun set! All the times I’ve been on the lakes, I’ve never seen one this vibrant! A bucket list would be something like an Aurora Borealis. I’ve never witnessed one of those either. Closest I have come that I didn’t know at the time was traveling through Montana and it seemed like first light at 1:30 in the morning. Only logical explanation I could come up with, and that was like 40 years later, it was a faint Aurora. This year and next 2 years are supposed to be ripe for viewing that event. Someday, maybe, LOL!

Used to be TV, the babysitter – now it’s the cell phone. I believe kids instinctively want to enjoy physical, creative activities., but now it takes extra effort to get them to outdoor spaces where they can do that. Not impossible with strategic planning, though.

Good afternoon, Miz Wee! The Bidenhandler Administration has not just gone leftie, not merely dictatorial, but thoroughly evil. They need to fear for their immortal souls.

It reminds me of these Bible verses….

      1 Peter 5:8-9 (Amplified Bible)
Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack—rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone.]

Mornin’ All. Overcast and 58* here so far. It is a little humid and coolish outside, but very pleasant. We have had our breakfast and now Loki is taking her morning, after breakfast, nap.

In a while I am running out to pick up groceries. I am especially low on water. And, then, back to finding things to get rid of. What a fun day this will be!

Hope you all have a good one.

Good afternoon, aus! We’re at 75 degrees with cloudy/sunny in a fight to decide which takes over. It’d be great to be spending the day on one of our local lakes. Unfortunately I’ve been sneezing around today; so I’d better take it easy with an allergy pill.

Like you, I’m still sorting through clothes for the donation box. I’ve got to try on dozens of slacks which have been hanging in the closet unworn for several years. Because I’ve lost almost 2 inches in height, many of them drag and that’s so annoying. Since I no longer have a sewing machine, it’s difficult to hem them up without looking totally amateur, not that anyone would be standing around pointing…LOL!

LOL. My best friend used to always look so put together in her clothes. But, if you turned them inside out, she had hemmed them with duct tape, staples, packaging tape, or whatever else she could find. I was a seamstress and my hems were always done “correctly”, but hers always looked better.

Hmmmm, duct tape, huh! I just may try that. Haha!

Did you take sewing and dressmaking in high school? I did and make quite a few of my clothes.

Dad bought a sewing machine from Sears, one of those that looked like a wood desk when all closed up. I had that machine until 2008 when I moved from Los Angeles. It needed parts no longer available; so it was placed at the curb for trash pickup. It was long gone by trash day. Maybe the scavengers hoped to repair it…or just use it as a desk.

I started sewing doll clothes with a needle and thread when I was 7. When I was 9, Mom let me use the sewing machine (an old Singer) and eventually I started making my own clothes. By the time I got in Homec., I was making all my own clothes. My teacher made me use my measurements to pick out a pattern and the skirt was two sizes too large for me. I had to make it anyway and it fell to the floor when I put it on. I was really curvy and had a 23″ waist. I often cut out a dress in the evening and wore it the next day. Wish I had the drive to do that now.

When my daughter was small, I made many of my own clothes too. I was able to afford better quality fabrics that way. I remember fondly a pair of beautiful light gray wool gabardine slacks that I made and wore until they were threadbare – probably 20 years! I think the first garment I made was a blouse; I was probably 11 yrs old.

I would be tempted now, except patterns and material are so expensive. You know, I just wish I had pictures of the dresses I had made.

Check out the thrift shops for patterns! Or EBay. I buy material on line, but I don’t sew clothes for myself any longer, although I suppose I could. I think the last time I made an outfit was for a wedding in the early 2000’s. Now I just sew quilts, and household stuff like tablecloths and aprons.

I had an old Singer portable with a wooden case that I found in the basement of a house we were renting in about 1970. I finally gave it to my daughter. It was built in the 1920’s (I looked up the serial number) and it still works just fine.

My mother’s old Singer is probably still being used. She replaced it with an expensive sewing machine that gave her all kinds of trouble.

I also have my mother’s Singer from the 1960’s, but I bought a newer machine from Sears, and it is working fine too. I have a serger also, but I never use it. I used to make clothes for the boys, and serged knit shirts for them etc.

    Mega-Church Threatens LA Dodgers Boycott
By Todd Starnes – Published May 26, 2023

“One of the largest and most influential churches in southern California is threatening to boycott the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dr. Paul Chappell, the pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church and the president of West Coast Baptist College, says he is appalled that the Dodgers are going to honor an anti-Catholic hate group.”

    https://www.toddstarnes.com/faith/mega-church-threatens-la-dodgers-boycott/

I just looked up who the Dodgers owner is: “Mark Walter is the chairman and controlling owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and an investor, conservationist and social-justice advocate.” Magic Johnson is still a minority owner. BEYOND shame on all of them.

Came across this one-liner in a 1995 Reader’s Digest (before they went totally woke–I stopped subscribing to both RD and National Geographic in the early 90s because…)

“Asking an incumbent member of Congress to vote for term limits is a bit like asking a chicken to vote for Colonel Sanders. –Rep. Bob Inglis”

Reminds me of a line by the Dowager Countess Violet in Downton Abbey: “A peer in favor of reform is like a turkey in favor of Christmas.”

Apparently it is a common British idiom.

Good day, Sharon! Inglis must have made that comment when term limits were defeated in 1995.

      “October 17 (legislative day, October 10), 1995
Who votes on congressional term limits?
Senate Joint Resolution 21, if approved by two-thirds of the Members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and if ratified by three-fourths of the States, will limit Senators to two terms and Members of the House of Representatives to six terms. II.”

I’m still following a low carb diet. Tonight I tried something new – “pasta” made from hearts of palm. The company name is Palmini. It’s pretty good, although the texture isn’t the same. Next I’m going to try zucchini noodles. I have a spiralizer contraption, so that should be pretty easy! I bought that a while ago in a weak moment on Amazon.
