On this date in 1848, Louis Comfort Tiffany was born. He was an American designer internationally recognized as one of the greatest proponents of Art Nouveau, particularly in the art of glassmaking.

100 years after being hung at a Rhode Island church, a stunning Tiffany stained-glass window can now be admired by visitors at the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC). It is now known as the Hartwell Memorial Window.
From Encyclopedia Britannica:
Tiffany’s experiments with stained glass, begun in 1875, led to the establishment three years later of his own glassmaking factory at Corona in Queens, New York. By the 1890s he was a leading glass producer, experimenting with unique means of colouring.
He became internationally famous for the glass that he named Favrile, a neologism from the Latin faber (“craftsman”). Favrile glass, iridescent and freely shaped, was sometimes combined with bronzelike alloys and other metals; such examples, some signed “L.C. Tiffany” or “L.C.T.,” enjoyed widespread popularity from 1890 to 1915 and were revived again in the 1960s. His Favrile glass was admired abroad, especially in central Europe, where it created a new fashion.
Thank you, Stella, for the beautiful items of Tiffany glass.
Stellars, have a blessed Saturday with Tiffany around the world….

My mother & I went to an exhibition in San Francisco in 1981, & also saw the extensive collection at the Winchester House in San Jose.
The exhibit told that his work fell out of favor for years and his home in NY was abandoned with the installed windows left to the elements. Unimaginable.

Hi, Czarina! That’s terrific you were able to see the exhibition and the Winchester collection. It’s totally admirable for folks to take care of such beautiful and valuable items as Tiffany glass. I can’t imagine anyone just letting it deteriorate. Amazing!

A short video from the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Chattanooga. I was married in this church in 1976.

Thanks, Menagerie! How beautiful to go there and meditate on the call of Jesus on our lives.
Do you have wedding photos posed in front of the glass?

No, the windows are high on the wall, bottoms of them are at least 6’ up, if not more. They are huge windows on very high walls.

Good afternoon, Wee! Oh, yeah, he’s comparable to George Washington.
If he’s been working for so many decades, why is it that no one can list off the top of the head what his positive accomplishments are? Negative we got a load of.

The “Oldest Law Enforcement Officer in the World” passes away at 99. In Texas, of course! Plenty of men could outrun him, but not the silver bullet! 😉

Afternoon, All. 34* here and overcast. It snowed lightly last night so there is just a fresh sprinkle on the ground. Actually it is snowing now, but, just like a flake at a time, though. It is hard to tell unless you are actually out in it. Loki doesn’t care.
Hope you all are having good weather and staying well.

Started out 39* here in Charlottesville, VA, now up to low 50’s and relentlessly sunny. Warm in the sun out of the wind. Prediction is to be 80* by Thursday.
