Cle Elum is where my parents honeymooned just before dad left to go to war. He left from the Bremerton Navy Yard.

Can you just imagine the pressure our parents were under during WWII? We think we have it tough! (They were young, tho, and invincible – guess there was extra strength in that!)

My Dad died when I was one, in 1944, of a hernia operation. My Mom went down to the hospital on a Saturday morning to pick him up; only to learn he had passed. They kept you in bed in those days. Apparently a clot formed from his inactivity. My newly widowed Mom had three boys, 1, 12, 14 in the middle of WWII. She managed to get all of us through college. Difficult to imagine how she managed.
