Upon leaving Foster Steam Cars in Rochester, NY (they built approx. 44 cars) and moving to Trenton to open the first dealership in NJ, Ollie went to what would now be called the DOT and suggested that they cover all the canals and install roadways. In 1911, canals were everywhere in Trenton, as most goods were moved on water. Naturally, the folks at DOT thought Ollie was crazy. It would 12 more years until the State of NJ ordered the filling in of the canals, and eventually using the space for roads. The canal pictured is one of the last, anywhere in the State.

My mother made a fruit cake that we loved. It was not too heavy, and had no liquor. She baked a white cake, crumbled it into 1” pieces, mixed up a box of fluffy white icing (I recall it was like meringue) and mashed it together with pecans and the candied citrus fruits and cherries. Mash it into a bread loaf pan lined with foil. Refrigerate. Don’t recall cutting it into slices, we just reached into the fridge and pinched off pieces until it was gone.

What can one say? He’s a very sick man and fully revels in his sociopathic mindset and actions. There’s no way he thought he wouldn’t get caught. He knows he’ll get away with the theft with no real consequences. It’s just another thing to rub people’s faces in. I’m sure he’s laughing at the whole episode, never acknowledging, of course, that his sinfulness is sending him straight to H.

I keep wondering why Biden, or whoever makes the decisions, chose those two lunatics. It occurred that his whole administration is just laughing at us.

Mornin’ All. When I went to bed it was about 7* and when I got up it was 15* and is snowing. Has been snowing for a while, obviously. I am starting to do my laundry by hand. It is hard to drag the laundry out to the car without snow and ice. This is darn near impossible. I kept thinking there would be spells where there was no snow. What a silly girl.

Well, I am having the family over on Sunday so the girls can decorate my pencil tree. I am going to have some finger food and sandwiches. I think it will be fun. I have to pull out all the Christmas decorations. I think this will be fun.

I pray that everyone in the path of the storms is all right. Stay safe.

It irks me that I didn’t say anything to the maintenance guy sooner. He said that someone moved out and left a washer/dryer and they had trouble getting rid of it. I could have had that. I keep hoping it will happen again.

Good afternoon, aus! What fun to have grandchildren help decorate for Christmas! What’s also fun is knowing they’re likely to remember those good times always.

Snow-wise, it’s always a challenge for us border state inhabitants. You do get used to it, but that doesn’t mean you always like it. Right after I shoveled about two inches of the white stuff off the walkway in front of my apartment, it started snowing heavily. At least I got a bit of exercise.

I figure it will take this winter to get used to the winter. Next year I will know what to actually expect and may be prepared for it. Or, on the other hand, I might end up sitting down and having a good cry. My DIL and her mother are trying to get me to drive. I am afraid of driving because the temps are staying below freezing and there is ice on the sidewalks and street. I have seen videos of cars just sliding all over the road and off it. I think next time they say something, I will suggest we switch vehicles and I will drive one of their 4 wheel drive trucks and they can have my Ford Crown Vic with rear wheel drive and no snow tires. LOL

Even if I could still drive, I wouldn’t be inclined to drive in icy snow since I’ve never done it before. If that means staying home a lot in wintertime, so be it.

A guy went by with a snow blower and cleared off the sidewalk around the outside of the building a while ago. An hour later there are 2 inches of snow on the sidewalk again. 🙄

Have you abandoned the idea of using public transit? Your county system seemed so accommodating.

Hi, Czarina. Well, it isn’t quite as accommodating as it seemed at first. There is the bus. But you need to make a reservation more than a day ahead most of the time. I am using it, but I make sure to reserve a ride a long time ahead. I have had to change a couple of appointments because of that. I tried to take the taxi to get my DL but it had an accident on the way and I had to reschedule for January. LOL. The bus wasn’t available on the other day. I can ‘t imagine taking the bus to the laundromat. I have to figure out how to make it work better for me, I guess.

That boy is just plain ign’nt, I tell ya! “I didn’t know”. That plays well on Capitol Hill, but not usually as effective in a courtroom!

In law, ignorantia juris non excusat (Latin for “ignorance of the law excuses not”), or ignorantia legis neminem excusat (“ignorance of law excuses no one”), is a legal principle holding that a person who is unaware of a law may not escape liability for violating that law merely by being unaware of its content.
