In 1966, I was transferred by Sears, Roebuck and Co to Brunswick, ME to open a new store at Cook’s Corner, which was half way between Brunswick and Bath. I rented a house on Orr’s Island (about 3 miles east of Cook’s Corner. Turns out it was next to a lobster pound.
This was a place that stored lobsters, until they were sold, or shipped down to restaurants in Portland or Boston. Lobster was $2.30/lb. back then, so I pigged out on it, until I was sick of lobster. Couldn’t afford to be sick of it today. Imagine, until about 1955, lobster was considered a trash fish and was fed to prisoners. Back in 1966, a “shore dinner” was $6.99, and consisted of a cup of clam chowder, a peck of clams, an ear of corn and two 1.5 pound lobsters, plus a salad and bread and butter.
I would mention that ME is only inhabitable in the summer; but they have black flies and no-see-ums, which bite. So it’s beautiful; but beware.

Thanks, Geoff, for another fun history lesson! In the first half of the 20th Century if you had to be incarcerated to get lobster, I’d say that some folks got real healthy while behind bars. Partaking of lobster is good for a person. Excellent source of protein.

In 2000, I took the wife to see the my first house in Topsom (just across the river from Brunswick) and of course, the Sears store at Cook’s Corner. Just across the road was a MacDs that sold Lobster rolls for $3.99. Kinda like a hot dog roll on its side, full of white Lobster meat. We ate those Lobster rolls 4 times in 3 days. My, that was 22 years ago.

I tried to find a source of that quote, but ran into dozens of treatises on humor, it’s good points and bad; what philosophers and clergy said about it; how educators use it, etc. Nothing on “might as well laugh”, however (though I sorta think it was Gilda Radner).
So, just in case you’d like to use it online and since it’s apparently not copyrighted, you can claim it, use it, and perhaps even make money off it.

G’day all y’all. I’m around every day, just hating to have to sign in for every “like” I have. For some reason I can “like” the post as a whole without having to sign in.
Lots of snow here, but still not very cold. Mostly low 30s, but supposed to have a colder snap this weekend, down in the teens for a few days. Feels like winter ’cause the sun is setting so early now and rising late. Another month and that will turn around.
I can’t tell you all how much I enjoy the beauty I find here every day. Stella’s gorgeous photos and creative posts, Lucille’s beautiful daily greetings, and everybody’s encouraging conversations all work to help me feel better. Thank you all for that! I’m in a world of pain otherwise that seems to have no end. It has been going on for 6 months unrelentingly and the doctors seem to have no solutions. It’s enough to get a body down. Every little bit of help is greatly appreciated. Tex is right, we gotta keep laughing. Somehow.

Oh my, Tundra, I didn’t remember you were having physical issues with pain. Stabbing type or general overall pain is a weary-maker. Sometimes it makes me angry causing annoyed outbursts, but since I live alone with my darling Little Gee, he’s the only one who hears me. He just gets up and leaves the room to lie next to the living room heater…LOL!
Being diagnosed is some mental relief; so I’ll pray the doctors discover the cause of your discomfort. May your Thanksgiving be happy in spite of it all. Love and hugs to you!

Thanks, Lucille. All prayers greatly appreciated. Diagnosis isn’t the issue, it’s crystal clear why I have the pain; I have world-class level arthritis in my spine and it is steadily disintegrating. Literally. The problem is what to do about it. I have a ton of hardware already; there’s no room for any more. No surgeon wants to touch me. My referral to Mayo Clinic was turned down. Meanwhile, pain and more pain. Only 6/10 on good days, 8/10 on bad ones. I just pray every day for the Lord to send me a healer who can help.

I’m so sorry to hear that you are in pain. There is nothing worse than constant pain, and I hope the doctors can find some solution for you.
If it makes you feel any better, I can’t comment or like at all without signing in every time, and it’s my blog! I can go to the administrative side to comment and like, although I can’t “like” either Menagerie’s or WeeWeed’s comments because they don’t appear in my notifications. I guess because we are all admins in the same group. It’s stupid.

Thank you, Stella. I haven’t mentioned the pain issues before because 1. they are boring; and 2. I tend to think if I ignore them they’ll go away. After 6 months of this, I’m having to admit the fallacy in that approach.

When are we going to put the infrastructure together to fight the libs on their turf? We have to fight fire with fire. Set up ballot harvesting operations. Encourage early voting, Control the ballots, and watch the votes. This whole Marquis of Queensbury crap doesn’t cut it.

Agreed. My biggest reservation with Trump is I haven’t seen any sort of indication from him that he’s building a movement, something to outlast him. It’s great for voters, including me, to be behind him and enthusiastic. But I want to see him putting together a team that will continue on.
Is he too me centered for that? Time will tell and I have nothing to lose and lots to gain in his corner. Although as previously stated, I strongly disagree with the trash DeSantis policy, and I’d bet others do too.
It strikes me as just danged dirt dumb to not look past one man, and one man only.

I’m not sure that is true. Think of all the new people at the local level. I think he is encouraging people to get more involved. He is also pointing out things that need to change in Washington.

If Jaime Herrera Beutler hadn’t been such a jerk re January 6th and the President Trump impeachment, that seat just might still be Republican. But she lost the primary because of her Never-Trumpism. I have friends in Vancouver, WA who would not support her anymore. She was never a true conservative.
I’d wager Joe Kent lost because of some Dem shenanigans. But it also might be that the district has been overrun with lefties from Portland, Oregon right across the Columbia River from Vancouver. Vancouver is sort of a bedroom city and at the time I left in 2015, there was no state income tax. Lefties lie when they call for more taxes…they just get their accounts to find loopholes and then pretend virtuousness….and continue voting Dem. Parasites!

Most people haven’t looked at what even a modest return on the investment of their confiscated social security deductions would have yielded. I have.
I’m about at the end of my willingness to keep letting them seize my money and spend it on criminal invaders and fake green energy bull excrement. I have a slow burning fire that’s just building up.
How much longer will Americans let them do this? Biden’s agreements to the latest climate con schemes just exploded something in me.

I imagine we’ll be seeing more and more of these studies, since the midget is leaving. The theory here……Vitamin D3 supplementation could have saved 120,000 lives just in the US. But can you imagine how much money pharma WOULD NOT have made if we did that? It’s high-time we clean out the NIH and their commission-based arrangement with pharma and gubmint workers. You would see a big change, and a lot of retirements happen in a hurry with that one change.

I’ve been lazy for a few months and not taken it, but for most of the period Covid was raging, we took he usual vitamins and supplements, including D. Also ivermectin. We both had the virus in January and I’ll repeat what I said then. Every cold I ever had was worse, except I was tired for a very long time afterwards.
That being said, I think we were lucky and I know it. I know people much younger and in better shape who had a lot worse time with it, and some family members have had it twice.

I’ll never say it wasn’t real, but we all know that there were much more likely to be easier and less costly options to ward off the effects for many people. Not necessarily all, but a bunch. Hope you get to feelin’ better. I don’t have too many friends who wanna take a snort of Uncle Jack, with us. 😉

I accidentally was taking three times Via. D that I was supposed to take and when I had Covid in Dec of 2019, I had a mild case. I was really lucky.

My DIL, who took some kind of health and fitness courses and is just one of those people who chases down every iota of info on stuff she thinks will help her be healthier, says it is very important to get some natural vitamin D by spending a little time in the sun each day, and the early morning hours are better for your circadian rhythm.
And I almost never do that since I can’t go for walks anymore.

Mornin’ All. It snowed again last night. Only a few inches and it is all soft and fluffy. Yesterday I told my DIL I didn’t figure even if I would drive my car, that I could get up their dirt driveway because I would get stuck in the mud. She said, of course not, it is frozen solid. LOL. Now, how would I know that? LOL. I am really looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with them.
Well, must go. I need to make the soufflé, pack, give Loki a bath, and pull her cage out to take with us, etc. So, later. Hope you get everything done before tomorrow that you need to do.

Just a reminder (one that I remind myself) – even if you aren’t driving, be sure to at least start your car and warm it up every so often. Better if you take a little drive whenever the roads permit.

Good advice. I have gone out and started it every week or so and once drove it around the outside of the apt complex. Also, last week I drove down to the laundromat. It isn’t far, but I ran the car off and on while I was there because I had Loki in the car with me and needed to keep it warm. So good so far. It is funny that the car starts up on the first turn of the key here, even in the rain or snow. In FL it didn’t like to start after it rained. That probably had to do with the high humidity.

Thanks. My oldest granddaughter has offered me her bed. They had just switched her into her own room and the 2 1/2 yr old to share her sister’s room. I will be there for several nights and didn’t want my son and DIL to have to give up their wonderful, beautiful, big, room for that long. I am glad they came up with this thanks to my granddaughter.
