STELLARS….

The loveliness of this 3-masted schooner, Shenandoah of Sark, brought me to tears. It’s what I think of when yachts are the subject of conversation. Built in 1902, it is 178+ feet and was for sale at the time this video was made in 2018….

Feeling Old?
The Beatles split 52 yrs ago…Paul McCartney says it was 1969 when John announced to the group he was leaving. But it’s more complicated than that. See: https://www.radiox.co.uk/artists/beatles/why-did-the-beatles-break-up-the-true-story-of-who-left-the-band-first/
The movie “The Wizard of Oz” is 82 yrs old…released August 25, 1939, the budget was $2.8 million. It wasn’t a success at first.
Elvis has been dead 44 yrs….Gone at age 42–January 8, 1935 to August 16, 1977–his net worth was $5,000,000. In 2021 his estate was rumored to be $300,000,000. For the article, “Remembering Elvis With His 10 Most Popular Hits”, go to: https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2019/08/16/elvis-10-most-popular-songs/2011382001/
Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video is 38 yrs old…it was released December 2, 1983 when Jackson was 24.
Mickey Mantle retired 53 yrs ago…March 1, 1969…”…with 536 career home runs, 1,676 runs scored, 1,509 RBI, 1,733 walks and a .298 batting average. He was named to 20 All-Star Games, won a Gold Glove for his play in center field in 1962 and was a part of seven Yankees teams that won the World Series. He hit a record 18 home runs in his 12 appearances in the Fall Classic. Whitey Ford called him ‘a superstar who never acted like one. He was a humble man who was kind and friendly to all his teammates, even the rawest rookie. He was idolized by all the other players’.” – MLBHOF
The movie “Saturday Night Fever” is 44 yrs old…released December 12, 1977. On June 27, 2017 the iconic disco floor sold for $1.2 million at auction.
The Ed Sullivan show ended 51 yrs ago…it ran from June 20, 1948 to June 6, 1971.
The Corvette turned 69 yrs on June 30…it went into production June 30, 1953 at the Flint plant. All 1953 models were Polo White with a red interior and they were priced at $3,498.
The Mustang is 57…the Ford Mustang went on sale to the public on April 17, 1964. It cost $3,447.50 for Gail Wise who was the first person to purchase the car. It’s worth perhaps $500,000 today. Does anyone else’s mind turn to Steve McQueen when Mustangs are mentioned?

You missed the Ford Thurderbird. The 1955 model first went on sale in October of 1954. My dad purchased a white 1958 Thunderbird (the 1st 4-seater) with red leather interior. Beautiful car (and fast). Here’s the 1955:

Stella, the Thunderbird was such a sweetheart when it was smaller like this. Our high school girls team sports coach had one in white. All us girls thought she was so cool because of it.

You’re killin’ me Lucille!
I wanted a Mustang Sooooooo badly in 1965 when I first started working, but it was always beyond my reach. Someone gave me a Mustang key case…that’s the closest I got.

I bought a 1965 Mustang used and restored in 1990. Kept it a few years, but it had a terrible rust problem.

One of my aunts bought a 1967 and it was still stored in her garage when she passed in 2009. The car had the original metallic green paint job, a bit beat up, though.

Our neighbor Don had new Corvettes in 1957, 1958 and 1959. He was a bachelor and had money to spend.

I bought a 64 1/2 Mustang V8 (260HP) Fastback with standard 4-speed for under $2,500 in May of 1964. so I am sure Gail did not pay $3,447.50. May $2,447.50. Like everyone, I wish I still had it.

Gail was declared by the Ford company to be the absolute first sale when she showed them the receipt. See: https://automotivehistory.org/first-mustang/

PS: Found out yesterday that Tucker is afraid of little kids. He barked and barked at the neighbors’ grandsons (2 and 4) last evening, but was very interested in them nonetheless.

Our dog is just the opposite…whines at the sight of them. The littler, the better as they can’t defend themselves from the tongue!! Nine years later, I believe he still pines for the children he played with as a pup on the ranch we got him from (hours away from here).
Wish we had stayed in touch, but who knew then?

I think it depends on what they are exposed to as pups. Tucker never had been around small children.

Our Akita Akio (123 lbs) was named after the founder of SONY, and was very protective, so we were always afraid some child would wander onto our property. Akitas are very smart, and as such do not need a fence to stay on the property. Sure enough, one day a 3-year old wandered over, Akio barked a warning maybe 5 times. His ruff was straight up, then he decided the child wasn’t a threat and proceeded to lick it til it went away. We found out later, from the terrified parents.

Zauber and Daisy were very protective of GGS. Stayed with him constantly.

I think if Tucker spent some time with little ones, he would lose his fear. In this case he was on the other side of the fence, and the kids didn’t come up to pet him. They were afraid too because he wouldn’t stop barking.

Seems to me that with each administration that shows up in DC, we are getting dumber and dumber people “running” the Country. Our side tends to have a bit of a higher IQ, but the bar hasn’t been set very high. This batch seems to be at a completely different level of dum-bass, however.

It’s a few minutes after 1:00 AM in the Namib Desert, Namibia. This is such fun to watch both at night and in the daylight. There are salt licks stationed around so the animals can get their proper essential and trace minerals. Right now I’m hearing what sounds like dog barks.
There’s a longer explanation of the site if you want to check the YouTube channel notes.
Here’s an article on animals in the region: https://a-z-animals.com/animals/location/africa/namibia/

Well, jeans2 was right! Viva Frei has sold his house and moved his family to Florida. He just arrived there today, and is doing a live stream right now, if you want to watch.

Not sure how long Viva Frei will be in Florida (he said at least 3 years).
I’d guess that the likely passage of Bill C-11 in Canada had a lot to do with the decision to move.
“Expressive content like podcasts and video clips, which currently enjoy full freedom of expression, could fall under the CRTC’s authority and suffer the consequences of CRTC orders targeting the platforms that host them. There is reason to worry about the potentially harmful consequences of imposing a burdensome government mechanism in an area where freedom and the almost total lack of regulation have worked wonders so far,” explains Mr. Bachand.
Bill C-11: A threat to freedom of expression:

I’m listening to his vlawg that went live tonight. I’m thinking that he has a new job down there, but he hasn’t announced it yet; he said there is more news to come. He just mentioned bill C-11.
