Sailors assigned to amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) practice for the San Diego Padres’ opening day flag ceremony. The ship sent nearly 300 volunteers to unfurl an 800-pound flag that covered the entire field. Bonhomme Richard is in dry-dock for maintenance and upgrades through April. Stellars….

After picking out the greeting for Wednesday, I got to thinking about what kind of bird Woodstock is…so, of course, I had to look it up. Apparently Woodstock doesn’t know nor does Snoopy. He was abandoned by his mother and she never told him.

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock and his pals say…

“Woodstock and his fellow yellow birds (named Bill, Harriet, Olivier, Raymond, Fred, Roy, Wilson and Conrad) often join Snoopy for group activities, with Snoopy as the de facto leader.” – Wiki

Wikipedia’s explanation of Woodstock’s species: “At one point Snoopy attempts to identify what type of bird Woodstock is with the aid of a field guide, asking Woodstock to attempt to imitate various birds: hawked crow, Bittering bittern, Warring wren, rufous-sided roufax, looney cuckoo bird, Ducky goose, warble warble and morning warbler. Snoopy finally gives up trying to figure it out, and says, “For all I know, you’re a duck!” Woodstock then cries and Snoopy hugs him and apologizes.

Despite being a bird, Woodstock is a very poor flyer. It may be because of his small wings, or may be because, due to his mother abandoning him, Snoopy had to teach him to fly. He flitters around in erratic fashion, often upside down, and frequently crashes into things. Woodstock’s bird friends are the same species, so they are all bad flyers. Once, Woodstock and his bird friends wanted to go hiking to the summit of “Point Lobos”. Lucy laughs at them and says that they are stupid because they are birds and ‘why don’t they just fly’.”

Good morning, aus! We’re going to hit 91 today and it will be a dry, cracklin’ day with no much-needed rain in sight. As usual, I’d rather be seeing the sun go down on a tropical isle…

…though with my bum knee giving me fits today (it is slathered in Voltaren at the moment), I don’t think I could climb into the hammock.

So I’m reading along, enjoying the story, and the two pix flow up and I’m deciding which canary he looks more like when an evening primrose scrolls into view. I am startled for a moment, thinking, “ he doesn’t look like an evening primrose”. After a brief period of discombobulation, I realize the yellow flower is unrelated to his parentage….

And a happy Wednesday to all ya’all. Today would have been Czar’s 74th birthday. Please take a moment to remember him. Thank you.

Beethoven’s 5 Secrets – OneRepublic – The Piano Guys (this video: Steven Sharp Nelson, cellist)

“Story behind the song: The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic (Youth Orchestra) and its director, Kayson Brown, approached us with this idea. We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish — inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets,” combining OneRepublic’s tune “Secrets” with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.

“We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony (not including the “bridge” the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from!

“What are Beethoven’s secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his “weakness.” He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that…one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life’s greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had “secrets” that had to be “forced into” in order to obtain art’s highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the “secrets” of art — people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him.”

Good day to you, WeeWeed! That’s an actual sentimental man. Hope he’s found the right woman to appreciate him. His diamond find will probably inspire more folk to visit the Crater of Diamonds, though it’s likely the park is never without visitors looking for their very own yellow diamond.

Personally, I’ll take this yellow and white diamond concoction…

Mornin’ Wee, and everyone else. Boy, it appears everybody else is sleeping in. Loki let me sleep until 8:15 today. 😯 It was already almost 80* and 70% humidity. I have a retractable leash and my hand was so sweaty I had trouble holding on to it when we took our walk. Ahhh, summer. 😦 Hot sun, high temps, high humidity, and still air. Now if we can just get those t-storms and rain going again.

The sad thing is that so many of our fellow citizens will believe what Biden says, even if it’s wrong.

I saw a liberal yesterday challenge someone that there was any voter fraud anywhere using the logic that it is just too outrageous a story to be true in the U.S.A. They said there is no evidence. I used to go to church with a lawyer who said the same thing. Exactly what is their standard for evidence? Seems to me there is overwhelming evidence all over the country, and most of us here have gone through tons of it.

I think some of these vote-fraud deniers are saying things like this to convince others, but they really know better. Example is a guy on CTH (trashed comment yesterday) who listed a number of vote fraud cases that involved Republicans. Most of them know. After all, it doesn’t matter whether an R or a D commits the fraud; the goal is to stop fraud no matter the source.

By the way, there is a website from Heritage that lists verified cases of vote fraud in the USA.

          https://www.heritage.org/voterfraud

ADD: Of course, it isn’t just vote fraud, but voting irregularities from other causes, like the case of miscounts of folded ballots in New Hampshire.

Democrats Take a Hike Deep in the Heart of Texas
    June 1, 2021 – by Matt Carpenter

After the 2020 election, it comes as no surprise to many that state legislatures, concerned with vast irregularities stemming from an unprecedented influx of mail-in ballots, last-minute changes to election law, and other irregularities, took up the cause of election integrity. States from Arizona to Florida, Georgia to New Hampshire, and elsewhere, have passed legislation to correct weaknesses in their respective state’s election system. In fact, an impressive 389 bills in 48 states have been filed to deal with this very issue (according to the left-wing Brennan Center).

BREAKING: Donald Trump’s Blog Page Has Just Been Shut Down Permanently
By Admin – Published on June 2, 2021

Donald J. Trump’s communications platform, launched in the wake of deplatforming on every major social media platform in the United States is being shut down — permanently.

The website, referred to as the “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump,” was an end-around for the former president to communicate with his supporters without the filter of the mainstream media. It is now replaced with a page for subscribers to receive “alerts” from the president.

I listened for a while. Viva was the most rude I’ve ever heard, and the entire thing was boring beyond one’s ability to withstand.
