I hated those separate facilities when I first noticed them.

Back when I was a little kid and we took a trip to Florida, I remember how horrified my mother was about things like this, particularly a store that wouldn’t allow “coloreds” to enter, and an old man had to ask a kid to get something for him.

I don’t recall seeing any of that. NYC & North Dakota.
I believe it was about 1969 when a columnist said ND had a white supremacist National Guard because there only 8 Blacks in the Guard out of 4500 Blacks in the State.
The Guard analyzed the Blacks. Over half were in the US Air Force, most of the others were spouses and children, some had done their time in the Air Force and found other work. Considering the number of the Blacks that were not in the above groups. the 8 was a good representation.
