Love the picture Stella. My husband builds those boats. Everyone calls them tugs, but they are really push boats.

They’re so ubiquitous on the river in NOLA they blend into the background. More than once the oceangoing ships coming up the Mississippi will lose power or steering as they fight the downstream current and try to navigate the curves. Around NOLA that’s a problem as the levees protect city from the river and the river can be some 20 feet above the city, if one of those ships crashes into the levee and punches a hole in it they city will be very wet very quickly.
You’d hear the ships give warning blasts on their horns, letting everyone know they’d lost control, and ‘tugs’ would rush from all over and coordinate keeping the ship from crashing into docks or the levee itself. About 25 years ago a Navy destroyer was tied up at a dock right downtown and, at about 0-dark-30, a big container ship coming upriver lost steering. The ship blew a warning, tugs just bobbing around responded immediately responded and managed to slow the ship enough to where its bow only put a 3-foot dent in the destroyer’s hull that ran from deck down about 6 feet underwater. Had they not been there the destroyer would have been crushed and sunk in the river right at the dock and it’s likely most of the crew would have been gone.

Czar, I love the background, history, context, information and alltheotherstuff you provide with regard to NOLA and the region. So many things that are so interested but I am one who has never been anywhere around most of those kinds of function. Really enjoy your input…..also the military type stuff, both general and specific.
Perhaps one of the things that the self-appointed superior left has completely missed is that there are a huge number of normal Americans who don’t know everything (and know they don’t) but who care very much about many things and do, in fact, pay attention.

My DH and I took many a trip up to Astoria and the mouth of the Columbia River for the specific purpose of watching these magnificent boats as they guided the ships through the dangerous waters. For we prairie folk, it was absolutely fascinating to watch the crews do their thing……….:0)

I love the description of how they just all jump in and do what has to be done, when something unexpected and dangerous happens.

Good morning, WeeWeed! Recall that Judas tried to give back the silver, either because he regretted the act of betrayal or perhaps because he was afraid the other disciples would find out and ostracize him. At any rate, the unfaithful religious leaders weren’t interested in the fate of Judas’ eternal soul and rebuffed him. So in his guilt, fear and shame he went out and hung himself.
We certainly don’t expect the betrayers at FOX to do likewise, though in a way they’re already doing it. Plus, the lefties who are akin to the fake religious leaders of Jesus’ day continue to despise and rebuff FOX’s overtures to join their club of elites…apparently not realizing that the domestic Left’s hatred toward them is infinitely deep and will NEVER go away.
But the patriots who discovered FOX’s betrayal have given the judgement against them and FOX is failing because they decided to be haters of our President and through him, us. All this because a man wants to do right by the American people.
Such rottenness…right to the core.

Mornin’ all. Going to be a busy day here. I found a new maid finally and she is a doll. I hope I can keep her. The last one had two new grand babies back last Nov. and their mothers wanted her to take care of them. So she quit. 🙄 So, my house needs a thorough cleaning since I have let so many things go. For several months I couldn’t bend over to pick things up off the floor. Anyway, if she doesn’t run away screaming after she does this first deep cleaning, she should work out well. Anyway, have to go put out the garbage before the guys come to get it.
Hope everybody has a good day.

Got my 1-case wine shipment today from wine.com in time for Thanksgiving. They issued a $50 rebate coupon because their new shipping methods screwed up my last shipment. Got a bottle of good Spanish sherry, a bottle of Argentinian sparkling rose, a bottle of Cupcake Vineyards Prosecco, 3 bottles of Bogle Chardonnay and 6 bottles of Italian Pino Grigio (brands I haven’t tried yet, but highly rated.)
I’m stocked up for a while!

We live in a dry county, so we cannot get shipments of liquor. Have to sneak across the border, where Louisiana will gladly sell any type we desire.

When I was in college (back in the Dark Ages) at Mississippi State U, the county was completely dry. We had to drive about 20 miles to the next county to buy beer. That road was called Highway to Heaven.

Another post from a Facebook friend, my cousin Lorraine:
Why go to Church? ~
If you’re spiritually alive, you’re going to love this!
If you’re spiritually dead, you won’t want to read it.
If you’re spiritually curious, there is still hope!
A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.
He wrote: “I’ve gone for 30 years now, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time. The preachers are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all”.
This started a real controversy in the ‘Letters to the Editor’ column.
Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:
“I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.
Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”
When you are DOWN to nothing, God is UP to something!
Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible!
Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment!
IF YOU CANNOT SEE GOD IN ALL, YOU CANNOT SEE GOD AT ALL!
B. I. B. L. E. simply means: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!
When you are about to share this to others, the devil will discourage you.
So go on! Share this to people who are DEAR to you and TRUST GOD.
