As I predicted, residents of NOLA are pissed, they’re getting their new property tax assessments and are finding them up, up, UP. Residents can go to city hall and protest BUT number of residents allowed in at a time, WHEN the office is open, is limited and many won’t hit the deadline.
The city’s facing its choice years ago to become a tourist-based city with a minimum wage base. It’s had to cancel all of this year’s festivals, events that bring over a billion dollars into the city and feed the tax coffers. At the same time there’s the huge problem of the Hard Rock Hotel collapse, arguably heavily caused by the city inspectors pencil-whipping inspections and never really inspecting the site. There will be multiple tort suits acomin’ and the city’s a huge target with not even a fig leaf to hide behind. The city does have liability insurance but if you sue in state court you have to stand in line and wait years for your settlement to get payed. Smart folks get a lawyer that knows how to get the case into Federal court so that when you win the Feds make the city pay up right there and then, zero waiting. I’m sure the city has plans to establish a cushion to pay whatever they can after the city’s liability insurance tops out.

Consequences happening to perps (i.e., public officials) are satisfying in the long run but they seem to be limited in terms of righteous application to the wrongdoers and manipulators.

They arose from wrongdoers and manipulators,they’re 2 degrees removed from the 3-Card Monte hustlers on the street corners.
Coming largely from the entitlement pool knowing how to take other’s money and keep a share for themselves as booty is all they know.

Mornin’ Czar, everyone. We got a lot of rain yesterday and last night. I haven’t checked to see how much yet, but it is so humid outside. I have to take my little doggie in for x-rays and a biopsy for a lump on her leg. Pray it isn’t cancer. Oh, and it may not be x-rays, they may call it something else. I say that because the first thing my friend did when I said x-rays was to explain to me how they couldn’t see anything but the bones on an x-ray, etc.

No, it actually was an x-ray. They called it a radiograph.

Prayers for pups. Our Australian Blue Merle had a cancerous cyst removed, and she did just fine. She threw a blood clot, but the surgery was absolutely no prob.
Also, my pain doc uses something like an active MRI for injections. He moves that little scanner all around until he finds exactly the correct spot (then puts in a needle as long as your leg and at least 3/8 inch wide…lolol). Perhaps your vet has one of those.
It is amazing what medicine is able to do now.

Well, I just got a call from the vet and the lump is a healed muscle. Doesn’t even need surgery or anything for that because it was injured and already healed. Her heart looked like it might…….might……. be enlarged, but she has no symptoms so I will skip the cardiologist. She is so active and doesn’t have a cough and no other symptoms, so I see no need to do tests. And, this test cost about half what they had estimated because they didn’t have to do the biopsy. All good. 😀

Actually, I can see alot on an X-ray. Tongue, epiglottus, lips, all the parts of the mucosa in the throat & larynx. As well as the bones & cartilages.

Louisiana’s COVID cases are skyrocketing, over 111,000 by this morning. WH is recommending the state limits gatherings to no more than 10 people but the gov hasn’t even been able to limit gatherings to current state ‘limits’. News is alive with a bar packed with tons of tourists this weekend who showed up for a fishing event that was cancelled due to the COVID. That didn’t stop them from pounding hundreds into a venue, no masks (that was mandatory too), packed shoulder to shoulder, laughing, singing with the band and generally spreading drunked spit all over the area.
The town marshall said he couldn’t break it up as the venue was under the authority of the fire marshall and the fire marshall said…and so it went. Lord knows how many of these tourists will now go back to wherever, though more than a few are from Texas, and take a little piece of Louisiana back with them. Thing is that all over the major metro La areas the bars opened and it was hordes of partiers cramming in like sardines making up for a few months of enforced individual sobriety and as soon as the boozeries opened the rates shot up like a rocket. And the state hit the panic button when we had 39,000 cases.

Are the 111,000 sick people or just people who have tested positive?

Numbers include both as the definition is including everyone who tests positive and not just those exhibiting symptoms. I would say that the definition of ‘sick’ is infected whether or not the individual is exhibiting symptoms as the period the individual can infect others begins before most individuals exhibit symptoms. Uncomfortably like HIV.
There are just short of 1600 people in hospitals which is straining capacity they say. I’m betting part of that problem is that a lot of hospitals started breaking down the rooms they converted to COVID treatment when the infection rate dropped. They had to get back to elective surgeries to get the cash flow flowing again and now they are COVID beds short.

Heard rumors of these hospital ships that can treat CCP China Virus patients.
Also rumors of mobile army hospitals that can be set up quickly.
Prolly just more conspiracy theories.

There are a few MASH hospital units in the Guard, may be some in the Reserve too, but Feds would have to pony up the money to pay the troops activated.
Better solution would be for !@#$%^& Louisiana people, especially in NOLA and Red Stick, to stop acting like !@#$%^& idiots. Fat chance.

They set a “field hospital” up in the convention center in NO but hardly used it. Most pts. were nursing home residents who could not go back to the NH until they tested negative 2x in 24 hours. It was closed I think, but I presume it could be opened if needed.

The hospitals in hard hit areas in LA and MS are farming their patients (both COVID and not) out to hospitals which have beds open farther away. My larger hospital dedicated a floor to the COVIDs early on, then closed it when the numbers went down, and has now opened a floor for them as the numbers have risen. ICU beds with vents are harder to create since they require more monitoring by MDs and specialists, and RNs only have 2 patients each. And yes, they don’t want to close the elective surgery spaces, since they pay the bills.
