    See the wall being built!

    The wall is going up. Just as President Trump pledged, his Administration is working hard to stop illegal immigration at the border—before it spills over into our communities.

    Now, there’s a new way to watch that progress unfold.

    U.S. Customs and Border Protection has launched a page on its website showing highlights of this construction. You’ll find the latest footage from different sectors along our southern border, as well as a map to see where new barrier has gone up so far.

    Construction is going smoothly and keeping on schedule. By the end of this year, the Trump Administration is set to have built nearly 450 miles of border wall.

    Din’t do the big garden this year, too many things in the way, but we did put a lot of tomatoes and peppers into big pots on the patio and I’m going to put a tub with some bush cukes in.

    BTW, went to Harbor Freight on my way back from the doc’s as I needed a new set of fence pliers. The shelves looked like Chinese tool-eating termites had hit the place, a lot of stuff -including my fence pliers – ain’t dere no mo’. In town I stopped at Harry’s Ace Hardware on a whim and not only did they have them they had them at the same price as HF, they were better built and the were made in Taiwan! Win-win.

    U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan, a Clinton appointee, has put the brakes on DoJ’s attempt to drop charges against LTG Flynn. He’s accepted an amicus brief by an otherwise unidentified group calling itself the Watergate Prosecutors to allow arguments against the DoJ dropping the charges. There is a number of unique things happening here, especially in this being an amicus filing as that’s usually done when the defendant doesn’t have representation. The judge is going to allow parties from outside, with no obvious stake in the case, to argue the Doj’s decision.

    Now Sullivan was appointed to his first seat by Reagan and his second seat by Bush but Clinton sat him on his District Judge seat. This,coupled with this anonymous ‘Watergate Prosecutors’ group snapped me back to the original team of prosecutors assembled to investigate Nixon. On the team that was charged with finding new and innovative ways to twist then current laws into a noose to hang him was a young Hillary Clinton. Me wonders if there’s a veiled connection here….?

    Mornin’ everyone. Hope you all are having nice weather today. Really nice here. We went to lunch at Outback yesterday. It was great. They are really doing everything they can to keep people safe. We also went to Belks and shopped a little. About half the people were wearing masks. We weren’t and were getting some stares and dirty looks from some of the maskers. I am getting madder and madder about this whole Coronavirus mess. Mad at China and mad at the Demoncraps.

    Flynn’s counsel relates that on 24 prior occasions, Judge Sullivan has summarily refused to entertain input from non-parties to the case. No federal criminal rule authorizes such interventions. Yet Sullivan now encourages them.

    Alas, in the Flynn case, we are dealing with a judge who prefers bloviation to preparation.

    Louisiana gov has set conditions for reopening but the NOLA mayor has upped them. He’s allowing restaurants to reopen but at 25% of capacity. Mayor wants folks going out to sit-in dining to make reservations online AND the eateries to maintain all diner’s personal data (name, address, phone, whatever) indefinitely in case the city has to ‘trace’ the diner(s). The city originally wanted ALL businesses to maintain full identification data on ALL of their customers but balked after the businesses started raising hell over it.

    The gov allowed churches, synagogues, et al, to reopen for services but at 25% of with their being allowed to conduct outside service, using social distancing, . Large churches can hold outdoor services with unlimited numbers even if they are outdoors/indoors combination in the open and maintain social distancing. Weddings and funerals can be conducted with the 25% capacity or conducted outdoors with no capacity limit as long as social distancing is observed. The mayor will only allow indoor services at 100 worshipers, no %ages, and seems to have applied the 100 person limit to outdoor services and functions also. There will not be any religious functions that require personal closeness or contact and no choirs will be allowed.

    I called the mayor’s office for more detailed information only to have the person on the other end start asking me for my name, address, phone number, which church I was calling about…I told the person on the other end that the request for the information was making me uncomfortable and said ‘thank you but goodbye’. I didn’t give them my phone number but about ten minutes later the office called me, probably using their caller ID. The caller assured me that all of the info I needed was on their Phase One and I told him that I’d been there but it wasn’t readily and clearly available. He told me that it was there, I just had to dig around for it. There, howzat for responsive city government, nothing on the table, you have to dig the meal out of the cupboard.

    This mayor has the finesse of as charging bull, her lack of understanding about the depth of the religiosity in NOLA and the importance to the city’s economic base of its entertainment sector. I don’t see, short of divine intervention, her outsider butt sitting in the mayor’s seat at the end of her current term.

      Washington State is instructing their restaurants that they have to record everyone’s id and contact info, too, “in case someone gets sick” – – – and then, if someone is sick, everyone else who was in the restaurant at the same time as the now-sick person will be contacted and put on mandatory 14 day quarantine.

      Good grief. This kind of garbage is going to keep most people from visiting restaurants they would like to otherwise – I can’t imagine potentially causing such nonsense for all the other customers who just happened to be there the same time I was.

      So, no Catholic churches can have Mass with Communion? No way to observe the strict six foot interpretation there.

      We start having Masses at the end of the month. They are asking us to space out, and no Communion directly on the tongue, which means many people, probably me also, will not receive. It also means that my granddaughter’s First Holy Communion which was to be in June may get delayed. Many parents will absolutely refuse to let their child receive in the hand and it looks like our bishop is going to die on that hill.

    Interesting side piece: US Army Special Forces will need 685 officer and enlisted personnel this year to plug vacancies but expect fewer than 470 of those slots to be filled.

    It seems that only about 30% of the nation’s high school graduates can qualify to join the military period, that’s just at basic military entry level. Out of that few can make it from the basic SF selection to the end of the qualification course. Now the SF number doesn’t surprise me, quals are strict (not like the mess in the early 70s) and they won’t lower them but 70% of the US high school grads not meeting the basic quals to join the military period – that’s scary.
