Don’t know how many of you are following the launch of private satellites into space but SpaceX just launched another 60 of its ‘mini’ satellites into orbit on Monday. These are added to the 60 they put into orbit last May, all part of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite of over 12-thousand and eventually growing to a constellation of 42-thousand satellites in orbital belts running from 210 to 710 miles above the earth.
Not to be left behind Samsung has announced plans for its own constellation of 4600 satellites at 900 miles and even Amazon has started getting its personal constellation of over 3200 satellites up there to work with its own family of ground stations. Starting to sound like the 21st Century version of the East India Company’s Presidential Armies.
That’s going to create one helluva traffic jam plus interfere with spy satellite work from space and severely damage, if not virtually destroy, ground-based visual and radio astronomy. Astronomers are already saying SpaceX’s constellation will outnumber most visible stars from the ground, their reflected light will play hob with earthly telescopes and their comms will really damage radio telescopes.
There’s also the issue of space junk. When I was at Space Command there was a section that tracked space junk down to about the size of a nut, and there was beaucoup of it. People forget that a 1/2″ nut going east to west at about 15,000 MPH and hitting the space shuttle traveling west to east at 15,000 MPH makes for a bad day. Before each shuttle mission NASA coordinated the shuttle’s flight with Space Com data in an attempt to avoid a bad day. SpaceX already has one dead bird up there but even if all 42,000 (not counting the other guy’s) birds don’t shed space junk that’s a good traffic jam to negotiate going into a higher orbit. And then at some point what they’ve put up has to come down and with a potential of 42,000 deorbits over time what do you think the odds of an ‘OH SH*T!’ moment are?
All of these birds are for commo, most for extending hi-speed internet around the world. Excuse me while I roll my eyes, so far over the last 10 years both the USDA and FCC have spent over $2-billion to get hi-speed internet to us farmers/ranchers and I’m still using my cell as a hotspot. So with promises from SpaceX, Samsung and Amazon that their sky-killing constellations will bring me yet more TV-based garbage no one wants to watch (we have DIRECTV) while making sure one of their units doesn’t land in my barn (“Yo, Czar, we told you we’d bring you hi-speed satellite!”) I’m still not holding my breath.

Berkeley, has banned the installation of natural gas appliances in new construction and several other California cities as well as some in other states are considering it also. That would leave electric as the sole source of cooking energy (oh yeah, there are ‘solar’ ovens…ha haha, bleech) as well as clothes drying for many.
I can’t wait to see how they’re going to generate the electricity needed. Wind? Solar? Howzat woikin’ fer ya so far? The bans are on new construction but you know they’ll eventually get to existing structures or at least tax it out of existence. Howzat construction and installation of new appliances going to work with that downstream carbon footprint right back to the iron and copper being dug to create the upstream dream?
First thing that came to mind was some years back when a reporter interviewed Paul Prudhomme. He asked Paul what he thought heaven would be like. Paul didn’t have to think long, he replied that it would be spending eternity in a celestial kitchen cooking his food. Reporter than asked him what he thought bhell would be like. No delay, quick as a wink, Paul replied that he’d only have an electric range. I don’t see our country coming after my dual 250-gallon propane tanks any time soon but if they do they’ll pry them and my spatula outta my cold, dead hands.

B&W cat went outside this morning while the temp was still below 30 and a 6 mph wind still blowing steadily outta the north. I went over to the door and there he was, stretched out vertically on the glass with his best “LEMME IN NOW!” self presented. He’s now buried in my lap not letting one spare BTU escape.

We got most of it. Some we are going to donate, some we are giving to our son when they move soon, and my husband has quite a bit of stuff like chainsaws, mowers, tools, etc. that we won’t bring out here until he buys or has built an outdoor storage unit. If we put it all in the garage we couldn’t park in there. We got most of the necessary stuff here though, and I am working my way through it the next few days.

We polished off the two mini bottle of Jamesons that we had from somewhere and are now liquor poor, except for shine. Which is looking better every minute, especially the apple shine, which I like heated up a wee bit.

Oh yeah, I like hard apple chilled to the point of jelling. In Germany in the early 80s there was a fad where the bars would take shots of apple schnapps, put them in the freezer and you’d shoot ’em at the bar.

OMG I know a lot of people are not going to watch the proceedings this morning. I do have other things to do. But, the TV was still on and I muted the first statements of Shifty Shiff, because all he speaks are lies anyway. But, then Nunes started speaking and I turned it back on. He was wonderful. He mentioned all the things the Reps were told NOT to mention. Biden, Hunter, the first witness who will not be witnessing. Ha, ha, ha.

Something keeps bothering me about these impeachment inquiries. My understanding that the reason Gigliani was sent over there was because the Ukranians had been trying to get information about 2016 to our intelligence agencies, once the normal way, and a second time by way of special messenger of some kind, but never heard anything back. Why isn’t this being mentioned…….or are they saving it for later?

There is a lot bothering me about the impeachment inquiries. Starting with the FISA warrants and everything that led up to it. What is this Ukrainian thing, the 6th act that they have tried to use to impeach Trump? I fail to see where he has done anything Illegal. As the Left/Dems have said if he hasn’t done anything wrong, he has nothing to worry about. Well, if the Biden’s, jr & sr, haven’t done anything wrong, they have nothing to worry about.
Also, I haven’t seen anything on the Inquiry today, it might get me upset.

The industry has very active people on social media telling people that it is safe, and even recommended by the British medical establishment. Teenagers, of course, think they are invincible and that they aren’t going to die.

Since the mid-1980s, K-12 students have been present information on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, legal & illegal. I do not remember the actual time allotment for these lessons.
This was mandatory. Also, schools were supposed to be providing programs for the community, which includes parents.

Yes, but not all are alike. Some also contain THC, for example, and other contain chemicals that provide different tastes and scents.

I got my Browning 9mm Hi Power pistol out to clean and oil. It is the best feeling pistol I’ve ever held, better than the 1911 and just a hair better than my Walther PPX. The design is over 80 years old, John Browning’s 1911 2.0, and is one of the most widely manufactured handguns but it’s as effective as it was 80 years ago and more versatile than my Glock.
Only problem is it’s in 9mm and not .40 and I’m not a 9mm-carry fan. It still feels great and I can carry it under some circumstances (a bit hard to hide) and it’s a solid steel Browning. Still preferable to a semi-plastic Glock.
