November 9, 1989: Fall of the Berlin Wall

Erich Honecker, East Germany’s head of state, had to resign on October 18, 1989.
The new government prepared a new law to lift the travel restrictions for East German citizen.

Thirty years ago, at 06.53 pm on November 9, 1989 a member of the new East German government was asked at a press conference when the new East German travel law comes into force.

He answered: “Well, as far as I can see, … straightaway, immediately.”

Thousands of East Berliners  went to the border crossings. At Bornholmer Strasse the people demanded to open the border and at 10.30 pm the border was opened there.
That moment meant the end of the Berlin Wall.

Soon other border crossing points opened the gates to the West
In that night the deadly border was opened by East Germans peacefully.

And thanks to public education, kids today in America probably grow up thinking that the wall had to be put up to keep capitalists from breaking into that socialist utopia of East Berlin.

      I had the same thought.

They already push “Reagan tore down walls.”

      🙄

Amazing how the Left will twist everything and anything to fit its agenda.

What is truly amazing is how the Left believes we are too stupid to see what they are doing.
And they never cease to amaze, do they not?

I don’t know that the Left believes that we are too stupid to see what they are doing. I lean far more toward they are too corrupt and are accustomed to unrestrained power, they laugh and mock our inability to bring them down as they own the swamp, the politicians, the media, the formers of youth both Hollywood and our education system and they believe that they are untouchable.

That is why President Trump is so terrifying to them he is taking away their protection, pulling back the curtain and they hear the gallows man breathing down their necks.

Something that never crossed their darkened minds is happening and they are in deep deep trouble.

An official Democrat Day of Mourning. I have a chunk of die Schandmauer, a relative who worked for Lufthansa arranged for it to be brought here. It went up just before we were assigned to Germany and we visited it a few times – you couldn’t help but ‘visit’ it, it was THE salient feature in the city.

We were in that throng for Kennedy’s speech in ’63, it was exciting to go as we weren’t sure whether his presence in Berlin would spark trouble, things were touchy at the time and he was going to make an anti-Communist speech right at the Wall. After all, who doesn’t want to be over 100 miles into East Germany if the Cold War gets hot?

We were disappointed Kennedy wasn’t going to visit the Ramstein/Vogelweh complex. Ramstein was the HQ for the USAF in Europe and Vogelweh was a huge complex of military storage and combat units, the area was home to the largest concentration of American families outside of the US, some 30,000. We held little drills on how, had the war gotten hot, we’d allpackup a lunch and evacuate on foot to nearby rally areas but we knew that were the ball to drop we were pretty much walking toast. Least Kennedy could have done was drop by but instead we had to go to the mountain.
