Under Japanese dogs they left out the Tosa Inu, Hokkaido Ken, Kai Ken, Shikoku Inu and Kishu Inu.. Totally useless piece of information that’s been lying around for a while so, you touched it last and -poooof – it’s now yours.

I really had a thing for Tosa Inus for a while, but just couldn’t bring myself to pay the price they were asking for what’s essentially a huge bookend. Japanese dogs do have an interesting history though.

Japanese and Korean dogs have an interesting history, especially when the countries encountered Portuguese and follow-on European traders. TheTosa is more of a European dog while the Korean Mastiff is an amalgamation of European mastiffs, embodying the ugliest traits of them all but they’re so…strange…you can’t help to love them. Only problem with Korean mastiffs is they weight 185 pounds or better and when they shake their heads gallons of dog drool fly.

A number of countries (and US cities) have outlawed certain Japanese dogs as vicious/fighting dogs when they’re anything but. A city in Iowa not only bans pits, GSDs and a host of other breeds but any dog that weighs over 100 pounds. city in Mississippi bans Shar-Peis (go figure) and Harper Woods in Michigan banned Rhodesian Ridgebacks, that’s one step down from banning Cockapoos. Whoops, got carried away there…
