   Hopefully when there’s the press conference at FEMA, the media will actually ask some questions regarding the hurricane and the survival preparations.

     Let’s hope someone asks what state and local governments are doing besides standing around waiting for the Feds to ride to their rescue. Florida, in particular, ain’t exactly cash-strapped and regularly get hit with hurricanes.

     A lot of insurance companies have pulled hurricane insurance there, just as they have in Louisiana. Florida also sticks out there and attracts hurricanes like mobile homes attract tornadoes. There are also, as there was in Miami pre-Andrew, homes and businesses that were built under older and far more lax building codes. Also, as in pre-A Miami, a lot were built with building inspectors giving a wink and a nod, I’ll bet – can’t have an explosive growth without cutting a few corners.

     It annoys me no end when they just ask about the latest things on their lists even if it has nothing to do with the subject at hand.
