Good Morning….. It is the beginning of day three of the painting on the outside.. At this point, everything has been primed and today the first coat of paint will be applied. Hopefully by tomorrow evening or Monday, the painting will be completed.
Next week the siding & carpentry guys will return to repair & complete the decking, install another window & finish the dirt work around the front of the building.
In January the linoleum tiles in the bathroom and the laundry room started to literally lift off the floors [the contractor used the wrong adhesive in the initial job]. I had to remove all the moulding, take out the vanity, remove the toilet, & disconnect the washer & dryer and the inside of my home has been a total mess (worse than usual), but, yesterday saw the completion of the install of all new flooring. Over the next few days, I’ll be working at putting those two rooms back together again.
Am waiting for a new motor & lift apparatus on a faulty garage door and the installation of electrical work for lighting in the garage still remains to be done. I am definitely not going to be finished by the end of this month, but progress continues.
Sending up prayers for those of you in Dorian’s path. Be safe.

I try really hard to remain calm when things turn sideways, but I will admit, my patience has been severely tested this summer.

My friend has a small home that she has lived in for the last 47 years. About 10 years ago, she had an aluminum insulation put in her attic. It never seemed to make any difference in the heat coming through the roof and attic. We went to one of those seminars by the maker and seller of that insulation recently (free food), along with some other things. Anyway, she has always said it was a ripoff. Well, she had one of the guys come out about something else and he was horrified to see how the insulation had been put in her attic. It is just hung from the rafters about two feet off the top of the floor of the attic, if you can picture that. I couldn’t until I saw it. It is supposed to be laying on the floor of the attic and sealed at the edges. Whoever put it in had no idea how to put ANY insulation in.

We had the concrete floors in our house treated glass smooth when we built, we wanted them stained and sealed so we paid the extra.
We hired a company in Slidell to do the insulation in the attic, it was a spray-in foam that covered the inside of the roof. When they showed up the main contractor wasn’t here so without any supervision or call to us they went up into the attic nd sprayed away. Now the sheetrock and ceiling hadn’t been put in yet asv the wiring was still going in so when they started to spray and the slop went right onto our floors. Had the workers waited for the contractor, called the contractor or even called us we’d have told them the floor needed to be covered but they just bopped in and awent to spraying.
The overspray ruined the floor, there was no way to remove it and the stain wouldn’t have adhered. We ended up being lucky and finding a sale on commercial-grade porcelain tiles about 16×16 that were meant for flooring in a failed mall. They were just the right color, are super durable and we got enough to do the house with a lotta leftover. Woulda been nice to have the stained floor but the tile worked too.

In a word, no. Lawyer said that for a myriad of reasons that even if it went thru and we won it would still not make our losses.
Actually the cost of the tiles and their installation came to a bit less than the concrete staining would have and with the GGS, cats and dogs the bulletproof tiles worked great.
That said, if I ever see one of their trucks along the interstate with a flat tire I’ll stop and flatten the other just for good measure. We don’t recommend them to anyone who asks.

We have cancelled the trip to Key West. I kept hoping that the path would turn at least slightly to the North, but that doesn’t seem to be happening and now they are forecasting a cat 3. Actually, Sundance was one of the reasons that I decided to throw the towel in. I was remembering his account of going around Florida helping after the last one. So, I realized how dangerous it could be trying to drive the two hours back home.
Another reason was my friend is diabetic. She doesn’t need insulin, but she does have to eat regularly and I started thinking that the stores are starting to be depleted down here already How much worse would it be on an island? Also, as I type, it seems the storm is growing. So, I called her this morning, armed with all that and was pleasantly surprised that she had come to the same conclusion, although for different reasons.

HAAAAAAAPY KATRINA DAY! Today’s the 14th anniversary of the day everything changed for New Orleans and the day that began the city’s endless feasting at the Federal fiscal faucet.
I’m betting that next year they’ll have some self-serving celebration where the politicians will continue to embellish and polish the lie about their heroic actions during the storm. I’ll retrieve the commemorative hat that the Seattle PD members who came here to help gave a few of us and wear it along with the t-shirt that was sold to help raise funds to defend the NOPD members the city tried to hang post-K. The city used them to draw attention away from the politicians’ failures and did a lot of damage to the lives of officers who held the line while the rest of the city government folded like wet toilet paper.

This is my favorite go-to LIVE FEED when the news is so complicated, disappointing, stressful to view/hear.
The sound is wonderfully uplifting…the bears are beautiful examples of God’s creativity…the little ducks are adorable flitting in and out of the water, almost playing a game to see how close they can get to the bears…the salmon, ah, well, they’re part of the food chain…LOL!

Today some seagulls stopped by to watch the bears. One stood on a rock very near the falls and between two brownies…perhaps he was hoping a fish would jump right into his range. Then one of the bears sat down on another big rock, legs outward like a little kid…hahaha!
I’m watching this live feed when I should be doing other things like clean house or some such boring thing.
