Red Flag laws, a hairball idea at best, began gaining popularity after the Parkland shooting. Cruz had already had his firearms taken away from him and they were returned for some reason. Cruz, the poster boy for the gun control crowd had the police called to his house 39 times, the most recent was when he put a gun to his foster brother’s head, still no arrests. I would like to see a husband do that to his wife and avoid arrest. Cruz was expelled from school for bringing bullets to school. The Safe Schools Act wants prison time after a stunt like that. He should have been in prison for his bullets to school infraction when he shot up the school. Keep in mind, until he killed those kids, he still had a clean record and because of that, we need better background checks to prevent gun violence.

The San Bernadino shooters should have been subjected to enhanced background checks. But then since a good buddy bought the firearms and illegally transferred the guns to the shooters, We know he had a clean record. The gun buyer could have spent the rest of his life in prison for what he did even if those guns had not been fired.

The Virginia Tech shooter stalked 2 women but they refused to press charges. Stalking, a misdemeanor, will get a person place on the No-Buy list in the FBI computer and prevents them from buying firearms. His English professor reported him for his disturbing essays and a judge ordered him to submit to a psychological exam. At which, the judge should have earned him a spot on the No-Buy list until he complied. He did not comply and the judge did not follow through. His record was clean and he bought firearms.
Holmes, Aurora theater, psychiatrist notified the police as she was obligated to do six weeks before the killings, The Police did nothing, they could have seized his firearms until he submitted to a psychological exam by another doctor.
Not mentioned often because it does not fit into the gun ban narrative, were 33 bombs wired together in his apartment. He was not capable of this without blowing up the apartment building. He had help.
The Orlando shooter was a licensed armed security guard. He had been kicked out of the police academy because of radical Islamic views. He had been investigated twice by the FBI for his radical Islamic views. They talked to his both in the course of both investigations but never told his boss why they there. His boss later said he would have fired him if he had known what was going on. An enhanced background check might have helped this, keep in mind, the FBI had done a never placed him in their computer.
San Bernadino above and the 3 shootings in this comment are what I considered Jihad and said as much on a FB post. It earned me a 30-day suspension because t disparaged a certain religious or ethnic group of people. Someone had said only white males commit mass shootings and I said they may have been white, but their motivation is Islam.

Our local editor talked about mental health issues need to be looked into. I agree Major Hassan Nidal had been making all kinds of comments and threats, He had been reported to superiors but they did nothing because they did not want to be accused of racism even though he is white.
A kill-list and a rape-list got the shooter in Dayton expelled or from school. If that is not an indicator for mental health problems I do not know what would be. He should have been required to submit to a psychological exam before returning to school. I would say most of the people on those lists were fellow high school students. I am a former school administrator and he would not have returned to school without a report from a doctor saying he was not a threat. Safe Schools Act applies here.
While he did not kill again, he would have done so except for an alert neighbor. The person involved had killed his parents at age 13 or so. After finishing his sentence, he has a clean record and proceeds to buy numerous firearms. He is making threats and FB posts. A former neighbor sees it and goes to the sheriff who knows nothing about this because the powers that be do not want juvenile offenses to taint is adulthood. The sheriff forces open his juvenile record, then proceeds to go confiscate his firearms. He had broken any laws, but the Sheriff had him placed on the No-Buy List in the FBI computer.
Dylan Roof shot up a Black church. He had committed a felony and had been placed on the No-Buy list in the FBI computer, yet he managed to legally buy a firearm. It seems the FBI misspelled his name when entering it into their computer. I know he more than likely has a middle name, but 9 letters proved too difficult. So when Roof goes to buy his firearms, his record is clear because he does spell his name correctly.

There are approximately 25,000 laws, ordinances, rules regulating firearms in the US. The way to reduce mass shootings and other firearm deaths is to enforce current laws. We do not need more laws that will not be enforced.
I cannot comment on the Las Vegas shooting because there has been no final report and very little of a preliminary report. Why? Someone is being protected. Since the media is not screaming for reports under the FOIA, I say the media wants someone protected too.
Enforce the Laws and decrease firearm deaths.
I think I can stop here.

Dylan Roof: I commend his father and uncle to recognized him in the pictures and identified him for the police. I believe they did this separately. I commend the Black (genuine) reverends who calmed their parishioners and prevented riots. They did this before a pair of Black ‘fake’ reverends arrived to cause those riots.

How about if we just enforce the existing laws?

Exactly, I do not believe there have been any mass shootings that could not have been stopped by enforcing existing laws.
BTW: There is no “Gun Show Loophole”.
In order to sell firearms at a gun show, the dealer must have a Federal Firearms License or FFL and follow the same laws as any business selling firearms.

I know there was one shooting that could have been stopped if the laws had been followed. Some people slipped up on the paperwork.
