Get ready folks, those brand new levees the Corps of Engineers built in New Orleans are sinking. Private engineers told them they had to be built higher to guarantee the 4-foot height as the new soil would compact the soil under the levees and they’d sink.
“POO POO”, said the Corps, “We know what we’re doing!”. Big chunks of the levees they put in just a few years ago have already sunk to 10-feet. City’s looking for Feds to cough up $800-million to put more dirt down. State will have to pony up some $240-million of that first – fat chance, but they’re amaneuverin’ to get y’all to bleed it all.
BTW, expect the Corps to beg more billions out of Congress to keep the Mississippi in the same bed it’s flowing in now. The Mississippi, through some previous diddling stupidity, wants to change its course and go down the Atchafalaya River, leaving the Mississippi north of Baton Rouge a mostly dry ditch. Actually the Gulf will come up that ditch to backfill until it reaches an area that’s at sea level but that will still mean no drinking water waaaaaay up river as most of the area gets it water from the river.
Y’all start adiggin’ in them couch cushions, we needs dem pennies to fix our messes.

Urrah, sun’s up and first formation’s over. Time for staff meeting – coffee and donuts on the tailgate of the 5/4er.
Don’t you know, it was the prescience of our first Baathist POtuS that created this economic miracle?! All the more miraculous and Nobel-deserving as he did this with zero personal knowledge and experience with a real job that earns money through work.

And a productive one so far! Working a few minutes in the heat then retreating to the A/C.
Folks in NOLA were on the news yesterday complaining about the heat even though it wasn’t even near record heat. They had a few old timers about my age on saying how they’d lived in the city for their entire lives and don’t remember it this hot. Thing is the city was only about 6 stories tall until the 60s when they started building ‘skyscrapers’. There was also nowhere near as much asphalt and concrete, the city was exposed to breezes from the marshes and there was a helluva lot more green around.

I think it’s always been hot. My grandfather worked at the Gulf Refinery out in the heat everyday and after retirement he’d work outside at his house. My Papaw worked at a lumber mill out in the heat all day. If they were still alive today…. they’d also say that this part of the country has always been this hot. 🤷♀️

Friend
by Rabindranath Tagore
Art thou abroad on this stormy night
on thy journey of love, my friend?
The sky groans like one in despair.
I have no sleep tonight.
Ever and again I open my door and look out on
the darkness, my friend!
I can see nothing before me.
I wonder where lies thy path!
By what dim shore of the ink-black river,
by what far edge of the frowning forest,
through what mazy depth of gloom art thou threading
thy course to come to me, my friend?

Have a beautiful day folks 🙂 !

You forgot that we were sharly discouraged from returning fire into the plantation when fired upon and expressly forbidden from calling in mortar fire, artillery or air strikes. The plantation was a diplomatic no-no and its importance was more important than our lives.

It’s now become a very small footnote lost in history. The only ones who cfare are those in the US government who profited from preventing us from returning fire, the next of kin of those killed by fire from the plantation and those of us who remember.

Funny. Those hairstyles are simply awesome. I can’t imagine the amount of work that went into them 🙂 .

I am gonna bet that every girl that wore a hairstyle like that had a rat tail comb in their purse. To achieve the height and volume one backcombed the under laying hair and then used the rat tail to ‘plump’ up the volume.
Then, came a spritz of hairspray and the outer layer of hair was gently fiddled into place creating the ‘polished’ effect. (This of course was hair that you had previously curled with your wire bristled hair rollers)
Next came a cloud of hairspray, a touch by the hand to determine the solidity of the backcombing, a quick look in the mirror to make sure the height was correct & every hair was in place, a final spritz of hairspray for good luck and one was ready to face the day.
Easy Peasy….

Thank you, friend! Sorry I missed this yesterday. It was a nice day and I hope yours was as well! My granddaughter had her 9 month well check yesterday. I can’t believe it’s going so fast. She’s so fun and cute. She had to get one of those helmets a couple of months ago, to correct some places on her head, but she’s half-way there and it will be complete before she turns one. Wish you could see her. She’s got the pudgiest little arms and legs and a tiny little nose. Her hair sticks straight up through the opening in her helmet. Love love love that little girl!

Rush made a great point this morning for those of us who get a tad antsy about the timing of this Epstein arrest and whether the Deep State will use it to smear President Trump, perhaps even try to force Epstein to concoct a story about our President and underage girls. Yes, Rush indicated the Left would love to connect the two. But the girls (now fully adult) remember who they were with and it’s totally against their interests to lie about relationships they did not have. They want justice.

CBP: $3.7M seized from abandoned boat in Puerto Rico
https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2019/07/09/CBP-37M-seized-from-abandoned-boat-in-Puerto-Rico/7631562659026/
Border agents seized $3.7 million in cash left abandoned in a boat on the shore of Puerto Rico, authorities said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Drug Enforcement Administration agents seized the money found in five duffle bags aboard a vessel near Fajardo, the U.S. agency said Monday in a statement.
The seizure followed CBP Air and Marine Operations agents having detected the vessel heading from Fajardo to the U.S. Virgin Islands with its lights off and requested a Marin patrol aircraft to conduct surveillance.
The vessel then abruptly turned around and headed back to Fajardo, landing near Rio Fajardo.
Agents in pursuit watched the suspects unload duffle bags from the vessel before abandoning the money and fleeing, CPB said.
Along with the money, the agents seized a loaded Taurus .40 calibre pistol and 63 rounds of ammunition, the department said, adding that the seizure was made under failure to declare and bulk cash smuggling laws.

Psycho-logists are nothing more than someone you pay to be your best friend.

Thank you, thank you, jeans2nd! So very true! Of course, thinking this way is seen by a psychiatrist as denial. LOL!

What an incredible risk these smuggler took! Depending upon how long they had it in their possession, they could get radiation poisoning with long-term effects. Bozos!
The commenters section contains speculations as to who is behind this. Of course, the Mossad being the du jour entity-to-hate, it’s on the list. Like the Mossad would get caught using such amateurs. Honestly!

My friend and I went to see Toy Story 4 today. It was so good. We laughed out loud along with all the rest of the movie goers all through it.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Gen. Flynn:
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Sorry I haven’t been posting these last six months, glad to see nyet is still wishing me a good morning after all this time. I do think about you all every day.
Not much to say, other than I’m six months sober as of yesterday. Vodka nearly killed me on the 8th of January, and that’s what it took I guess. Haven’t desired it since. Detox and 17 days in the hospital was absolute hell, and I never want to experience it again.
I’m bored as all get out, but still sane (as I ever was, heh), and I get along great with my folks down here. Besides them, I have no human contact, and it’s hard having no friends here, in the middle of nowhere. I’m 45 minutes drive from towns smaller than South Haven, and all the neighbors are old and keep to themselves, and so do we. I read a lot online, watch ABC News with the folks every night, followed by Jeopardy, and the very occasional movie or baseball game.
I’ve never been this bored in my life, but I’m alive, at least.

So happy for you re the six-month sober. Proud of you!
Maybe next holiday a potluck is in order for the neighborhood for miles around…someone more your age might show up. Labor Day, September 2nd is the next holiday. Maybe a little live music will show up, too, if you have any musicians in your neck of the woods. And everyone bringing an edible of some type is always fun.
We’ve missed you lots!

So glad to hear you are back! Thought of you just is morning, while driving from my home which is 30 minutes from the nearest Wal-mart, to the nearest hospital, 25 minutes away. Our neighbors aren’t very social. Kinda like where you are. But, we’ve got these friends online who keep us busy… been missing your music and photos, just in case you’d like to post some.
