      India’s challenging China as China sees India as her primary Asian rival in this century. India’s population by mid-century should equal or exceed China’s AND India’s population will be much younger than China’s rapidly aging population.

      Japan still thinks of China much as it did when it invaded it in WWII, Japan doesn’t miss an opportunity to insult China using WWII icons whenever it can. Japan’s in the middle of its biggest naval buildup since WWII BUT Japan’s population is aging so rapidly that by mid-century Japan just might be on the verge of virtually disappearing. This rapid advancement in Japanese robotics is less of a move for technology’s sake than it is Japan developing robotics to ‘man’ factories and services as the population ages and retiring workers are getting harder and harder to find replacements for.

      Watch for Vietnam to start challenging Japan more actively though it needs to build up and modernize its navy and is looking for funds. China is pushing Vietnam hard, claiming traditional VN waters as Chinese and refusing to recognize VN’s claim in the oil rich Spratly Islands. Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei have claims on the Spratlys too and China doesn’t play ball with them either so expect some joint pushback there too.

      Trump’s sending that carrier group to the Gulf is largely ignored by the press but to get there they’ll transit the Med, pushback against the Russian Black Sea Fleet and sail the Suez Canal…right past the new Chinese joint-use port (commercial-military) on the Canal. The group will demonstrate to Russia that the US still has an interest in the Med, shows Turkey we won’t stand for any crap about passage through the Bosphorus, shows Egypt we still think of the Canal as international and Iran that we think the Straits of Hormuz are international and we can easily bring a portable ass-kicking to their naval blockade units on the Straits if we need to. Not bad for one passage.

          I spent too many years working that area.

          About a week ago I posted this next door in a slightly different version. I’d mentioned the ships in the group and had some nitpicker come back and say that I’d forgotten the group also has a protective submarine force. I had to remind him that the Gulf has an average depth of about 160 feet and that’s not a depth you’d operate in with a submarine. No answer as of yet.

    This was my weekly early Monday am time to post my response to Rynn69’s weekly post on the Presidential thread so thought to jump over here to say hi to all. I don’t get much time on these days, but do think about and pray for all over at the CTH and here.

    Czarowniczy…I see my old stomping ground got a good soaking. I wonder how many of those 100 yr old pumps are still in service. I remember the May ’78 flood. Hope you and the wife are doing well.

    Also, a big 🙋‍♂️ to Stella, Lucille, Lovely, amwick…and nyetkneetot, that’s quite a “Mornin” greeting ‘ya got going there. And I’ll take that first plate of breakfast in a couple of hours, thank you.

      Your Mother’s Day post was wonderful!

      A lot of deep heart, soul and thought into that. I know and discern deepness of heart when I read it and hear it. I heard you!

      My mom…who is my stepmother, didn’t have a good day yesterday because our Dad passed away early am Saturday morning before Mother’s Day of yesterday.

      61 years solid married and faithful.

      My birth mother died at 27 years of age after having one lung removed because of TB…then got pneumonia which her one lung couldn’t handle. I was 3.5 years of age…and to this day, I exactly remember the wake and funeral….touching her cold hand and not understanding what was going.

      Just want you to know how much I appreciate your posts. Really!

    Very interesting, tonight on Kardashians over half the show is dedicated to the First Step Act, Alice Johnson, and how they worked behind the scenes [with Van Johnson] to get Trump to support the act – showing his press conference about his support for the act. Say what you will the show has a large audience – the MSM has tried to ignore he got this act passed. This show – and all the re-runs – likely reaches the audience who never watched Fox and doesn’t know about this.

    It would have been so much more convenient for Morning Joe or Jake Tapper if the Colorado school shooters were cis-gendered, white, Christian males, members of the NRA, wearing MAGA hats while brandishing AR-15s. But since that wasn’t the case, don’t expect the media to linger on this shooting. Instead they will focus on Trump’s real estate tax losses from 30 years ago.

    Then there is the fact that the shooters used hand guns instead of the horrible AR-16 “military style” rifles. Lots more in this article, which I recommend that you read in full.

    Stare decisis, or courts relying on past precedence of earlier judicial decisions, is a key platform of liberals, especially when it comes to Roe v Wade, aka killing babies.

    We have a new Supreme Court now, and Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the majority opinion today throwing out stare decisis in an earlier SCOTUS ruling and reversed it.
    “(Thomas) said the past precedent is “irreconcilable with our constitutional structure and with the historical evidence…”

    Now a team of researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) has designed a recyclable plastic that, like a Lego playset, can be disassembled into its constituent parts at the molecular level, and then reassembled into a different shape, texture, and color again and again without loss of performance or quality. The new material, called poly(diketoenamine), or PDK, was reported in the journal Nature Chemistry.

    “Most plastics were never made to be recycled,” said lead author Peter Christensen, a postdoctoral researcher at Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Foundry. “But we have discovered a new way to assemble plastics that takes recycling into consideration from a molecular perspective.”

    I was just watching a video by a couple who live in Amish country in Missouri, and they filmed their Amish “frolic”, the modern day version of a barn raising.

    One story touched me so much, and I was surprised by it. He told the story of an Amish family who had a fire that destroyed their home. More than 90 Amish men showed up and demolished the home and rebuilt it within 3 days. It was a family of 15, and they wanted to get them back under a roof as soon as possible. Now that is an example of community cooperation – something we don’t see much of these days.

    My mother told me stories about thrashing days on the farm, when all of the men in the neighborhood would get together to get the grain harvested, thrashed and stored for the year. The women would make a big lunch for the workers, and they would all sit down to eat together. What happened to us?

      I’ve been thinking along similar lines. Lucille got me hooked on the British show Escape To The Country. In so many episodes they talk about village life, and there are not only pubs where people gather, but community centers, and they have hobbies and events and athletics they share based on regional and cultural influences.

      It’s clear in many of these episodes that these small towns are very different from how things are here. I don’t know any of my neighbors. There is nothing at all going on that lends itself to getting to know people or making friends, and I live in a very small town.

      I’d love to find a place like that though. Community. I miss it.
