Morning Everyone 🙂
Another impressive and lovely picture today Stella!
For today’s painting I have the beautiful ‘Star of Bethlehem’ by Bruno Piglhein
And below we have a blue cake reflecting the colors and star of the above painting. I think this cake is decorated all in frosting, not fondant. I also have seen a similar cake with a bible passage written on the top.
The above cake would take great patience to do, so below is an easier one to decorate – just frost your cake blue, cut out a fondant sheet with cookie cutters or trace a pattern and apply the fondant to the cake! It still gives a lovely effect.
I have to post tonight because I have to get to the food store early tomorrow before the holiday hoardes invade – same thing Saturday, sigh. I SO wish I was a morning person!
So I will say hello to Lucille, my “picture sister” 😉 who always has a lovely post up top to greet us each day. I pray you are doing better Ausmom, and Wooly too. And close by waving “Hi” to all my delightful & caring Stellar friends. I’ll pop in later in the day, maybe after I take a nap. One of our food stores is HUGE. I think it must count as the walk my doctor is always trying to get me to do hahaha! 😉
Have a great day everyone!

Oh – I forgot to say, because you don’t see the picture when posting, something that made me smile about the Star of Bethlehem painting is how the little cherubic angels are stretching and turning their heads to get a peek at the baby Jesus 🙂 how cute is that! Also it is impressive to me from an artistic as well as symbolic viewpoint how the artist made the area around the baby Jesus’s head sort of “light up” with out having it look like a cheap glow ring. That type of faint effect has been a challenge for me.

Hi there! My grandson’s other grandma always did a Happy Birthday Jesus cake for her grandchildren when they were younger (she has 15 grandchildren!).
I use grocery delivery these days. It costs a bit more, but it sure is a pleasure, especially during the busy times like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

15 grandchildren – how blessed! 🙂
I love the idea of a happy birthday cake for Jesus. I have included it a few times in this series. It really brings the meaning back in a way people, especially youngsters, can relate to.
We have stores you order online and sit in the parking lot & they bring out the food, but the store with the biggest selection, and best prices does not have even that. A slight negative to living in a place I generally love. The biggest problem here is invading regressives and the inability to find somene to do home repairs rather than home building Grrrr.

I pay more to have food delivery, but it’s worth it to me. I can still go to the store when I want to or if there is something special that I can’t get otherwise.
I used to grocery shop on my way home from work, but since I no longer work I prefer delivery. Considering that I no longer am spending $60 or so a week on gasoline, I call it a good deal.

I think you are very smart, especially if you are offsetting what you pay to have the groceries delivered with what it costs to go after them. I really don’t have that excuse. LOL

I have Shipt service for the market close to me where I shopped anyway. Costco has Instacart service for fresh grocery orders over $35.00 (prices are higher though). I’ve only used it once.

You know the pick up service at Walmart has been very good for me and doesn’t cost any extra. Also, it is not very out of my way. They evidently have cut into Publix earnings because now Publix is doing the same thing and, I passed by another Publix and they have valet parking. 😯 I am going to have to try the pick up service at Publix, although, I never mind going in there like I do Walmart.

My friend lives in a small town in Cent. FL. and has for 45 years. She has a handyman who will fix anything she asks him to and she is happy with what he charges her. She won’t give out his name. LOL He is retired and I don’t think he actually wants any more work anyway.

Jes awunderin’ if Walmart’s adopted the Soviet marketing plan or if locusts do eat shelf items.
More and more lately they’ve taken to putting a single row of cans/boxes along the front of the shelf space to make it look as if there are items there while it isn’t unusual to see rows with so many empty spots they remind one of British dental x-rays.
You have to try and time your visits if you’re looking for a fresh set of bibs, suspenders oir Doc Martens, but thems jes reglar wearins’, it’s the mac & cheese and ‘specially the Moon Pies, Ding Dongs and Yahoos that’s the real problem.

Here’s what’s even worse from a consumer wanting to buy it or manager wanting to fix it standpoint. Department heads who are accountable for out of stocks hide the out by pulling the tag and flexing the items on either side to cover it. When the employee scans the items for re-order, there is no tag and no re-order.
Even if the retailer is on auto replenishment (a curse from the lowest levels of hell) without scanning no new sales data is input.
I once had to fix a department like that at Home Depot, a department I had to take over and was totally new to the product. Spent over 60,000 bucks in a few days with lots more later. Turned that department around the last four months of the business year, just missed the sales goal but exceeded profit and even made turns with all that buying. And that pretty much was the final piece of the picture that got me promoted.
I do not miss retail.

Wow! Don’t often hear the insider’s report on how that works. Or doesn’t…

Waaaaaay back in the Dark Ages (mid-1960s), the Air Force had a system that looked at the frequency of use of certain parts, the historical delivery times and the levels required to ensure resupply before, thru use and delivery times, to be on hand before replacements were ordered.
That was back in the 60s when we were working with computers that had the computing power and memory storage of a modern wristwatch. One would think that a company as huge as Walmart could keep their shelves stocked full, especially after destroying consumer choice by destroying the local stores that provided like services.

Thanks for the info – good to know!
What does “flexing the items on either side to cover it.” mean?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Woops, sorry. It means they took the price tag down for the out of stock item and spread the items on the shelf on either side out to cover the hole. Which makes it very hard for the person who has to re-order to find the out of stock and fix it.
It also means there isn’t enough stock reordered since the lost sales lower the average units sold, lower and lower every week so that when or if it gets replenished it isn’t nearly enough and the same thing happens again.
This is how lazy and ignorant employees can take best selling merchandise and make them poor sellers, ruining sales and profit for the department because employees who are that lazy don’t just do that a time or two, they do it on many items. It’s a nightmare to fix.

Ya can’t find a devil dog around here if your life depended on it half the time!

Speaking of devil dogs, our local Walmart has a retired Marine working there and they don’t want him wearing his ‘retired USMC’ hat there while he’s working. He fought them down to just letting him wear it on Veteran’s/Memorial Day and finally he got to wearing it when he bloody well feels like it.
You’d think that anm American store that figures so heavily into funding the Chinese military, a store founded by a guy whose son was a Special Forces SOG member, would be a bit more American.

This reminded me of my friend’s little brother. She was from a large Catholic family and 16 years separated her from the little guy. She said that here was always something about him that made him intriguing almost other worldly.
As an infant he was diagnosed with several heart defects.
As a very small baby he never cried during mass but seemed alert to everything. There was a crucifix above his crib and his mum explained to him what it was and then she kissed Jesus. He also wanted to kiss Jesus. About the only time he cried was if his mom forgot to let him kiss the crucifix before she put him to bed. He would cry and reach for the crucifix until he was allowed to kiss his Jesus.
His heart problems continued to get worse and it was determined that he needed (I believe) new valves. What ever it was it was a condition that is easily fixed with heart surgery, a surgery that is done multiple times a day in America.
The young boy was a model baby sitting through church in silence, always kind to everyone, always a happy disposition. The other time he cried was when he could not receive Eucharist.
He could make the sign of the cross and bless himself before he could talk.
His family used to joke that he was their mini-priest. His mom was really worried that he was so gentle and kind that he would have a terrible time adjusting to the world as he grew up, he would get sad if he saw his playmates fighting, being mean when his family walked by a homeless person on the street.
This was all before he turned 3.
Around his 3rd birthday it was determined that he was strong enough for the needed heart surgery. The procedure involved stopping his heart, of course every procedure carries risks, but the surgeon assured the family that he had done this a hundred times before, it had always works, he had never had a heart not start again it was simply a routine surgery.
The day of the surgery the little boy was happy, he kissed his crucifix, he seemed excited.
At some point during the surgery his doctor came out and told his family that they could not get his little heart to start beating again, everything possible had been done, their little guy was gone.
His mum believed early on that he was not made for this world, he was a gift, a guide, he was all love, and, he had returned home.
When his sister told me the story she did weep at times but they were always tears of joy. Of course she would like to know “who he’d be today” and the pain of losing him was terrible but I have never seen someone so at peace and comforted by such sorrowful events.
Pure Love is God’s greatest gift.

We have no angels like that in our family, but we do have two exceedingly special little guys. Of course I am pro life, but I always thought the stories you hear about how special some children, for example the Down’s Syndrome kids, are was at least partly attitude and appreciation on the part of family and friends who love the kids.
Our three year old grandson Conner went through heart surgery when he was under two months old, just two holes to be repaired, and he is fine. He is however autistic, and much more seriously impacted by it than his five year old brother who was first diagnosed with autism.
Various therapies and a special school have helped both little boys. Both can be quite a handful when they have one of their melt downs, praise God getting more rare with the progress they are making. Conner is, by nature, a helluva hand ful and not related to his autism, just a daring, agile, fast and fearless boy, emphasis on boy.
But each child, as different as they are, have something just a little extra that I have never seen in the other kids I know. Somehow God put a little special add on to the personality and perspective of each child.
They see things differently. They see more. They have more clarity. They truly experience joy. Their lack of filters hurts them sensory wise, and there are many other issues. But their lack of filters expands things for them too.
They dug a little deeper into a heart I thought was already wide open and filled with love and they brought more out and gave more back. I love all my family and especially my grandchildren, but these two are special in a way no one else is. They have given me gifts undreamed of, and their lives have just begun.
If the world has an inkling of knowing and doing what is best for it, the opportunities for these specially gifted people will open up, not for their sakes, but for ours.

I remember praying for Conner and the joy of his successful surgery. I remember your worry and your faith. I particularly enjoy when you tell stories of his energetic antics because of his fragile beginning. What a beautiful thing for you to recognize his unique beauty. I understand that “otherness” that is pure.
Your comment They dug a little deeper into a heart I thought was already wide open and filled with love and they brought more out and gave more back.
People, children with some type of limitations seem to have a specialness that if encouraged moves mountains.
I once read a story in Readers Digest about a young boy who was dying. He was generally an up beat kid and had that special “it” factor. One day his father was walking by the front door and saw his son sitting out on the porch crying, tears streaming down his face. The father thought “It is all catching up to him, the fact that he is really dying, the things and experiences that he will never have.”
He said he felt so much sorrow for his boy in that moment.
He proceeded to go outside and sit down next to his son, put his arm around him and say “I’m so sorry son.”
After a moment his son said, “Look at it dad, just look at it.” The dad looked around at a perfectly ordinary evening. His son said, “Just look how beautiful the sky is and no one sees it, all these people just walking around, and none of them will ever stop and just see the beauty of the sky, I feel so sorry for them.”
The dad said it took him a very long time to find his words. And even longer to stop feeling sorry for himself knowing that he would never see a world as beautiful as the one his son saw through the eyes of gratitude.

It’s terrible to lose anyone, but a small child is especially painful. Even many years later tears can arise thinking of a life cut short, and feeling empathy for the sorrow of parents and siblings. God bless this dear little boy’s family!

My mother lost a baby girl at 4 months from pneumonia. It was in the days before antibiotics, and she said it was hell to watch that baby die (in the hospital) and not be able to do a thing about it.
That was long ago (1930’s) before I was born.

I lost my closest cousin, I was 10 and she was 8, we were best friends. She was accidentally killed by my uncle, her father. He never ever recovered and eventually died of a heart attack or rather a broken heart in my opinion. He kind of sort of adopted me as surrogate but I also reminded him of his daughter so I don’t know if I made things worse or better. A child’s perspective so who knows.
I always cry when I hear this song because it reminds me of her in every way right down to the first line, “Sunny days seem to hurt the most…” I will always have her in my minds eye running in my Winnie the Pooh swim ring jumping off the end of the pier and coming up from under the water the sunlight laughing on her like a great redeemer, me swimming toward her to be encompassed in a lovely freedom that only very young children know.
It ain’t fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I’ve been through
Just knowing no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder who you’d be today
I always wonder who she would be today, who would her parents would have been, we even talked about naming our babies (never Tommy because, well Tommy was just so mean to us!) so the whole song just blows me away.
I can not even begin to imagine the hell that her parents lived. There is no sound like my uncle made crawled up on our kitchen floor.

Reminds me of Al Copeland, the late founder/owner of Popeyes. Al live out in Metairie, a bedroom community for folks who think the charm of living in NOLA doesn’t offset its dangers.
Al thought Christmas was special, for a lot of reasons, and he pulled out all of the stops to celebrate. His big statement was the light show at his house on the Lakefront, people from miles around drove there to see it. It became so popular that traffic clogged the residential streets and caused some neighbors to complain, but the louder they complained the bigger the display became more biggerer and betterer – litigation ensued.
The display and Al are gone, though it did continue in a local park for a while. It was a joy to see the the local yearly dustup they created, a seasonal schadenfreude for the locals.

Morning Wee. I really hope President Trump ends the persecution of Major Matt Golsteyn. So much human filth trying to make evil good and good evil. If not now, when? End it.

Problem is not so much your killing them as your getting second-guessed about anything you say about killing them. Same with police – if a cop had shot Gacy in the middle of a killing and dared say that “there are just some people who need shooting” he’d be pilloried.
As we used to say in the military: “One ‘oh s**t can cancel out a hundred ‘attaboys'”.

While I’ve always believed the ROE in Iraq and Afghanistan (don’t know if it’s the same in Syria) were clean out of common sense, Major Golsteyn confessed on TV about killing the guy? Dumbest move ever. If he hadn’t done that, perhaps the higher-ups would have let it slide. But you can’t have a man talk about such things in front of millions and not do something about it. Just my opinion.

I think he did it on purpose because others are being prosecuted for similar things.

All my opinion.
While it may not have been the most self preservationist thing to do I’m not of the mind that it was the “dumbest thing ever”. Why did Major Golsteyn grant the interview? He had to know that the question would be asked and his answer was matter of fact. I killed him.
This article was written in 2016 and they also use the word persecution which I believe is absolutely spot on.
The Persecution of Major Matthew Golsteyn by Obama’s Army
http://www.independentsentinel.com/persecution-of-major-matthew-golsteyn-by-obamas-army/
The military did not charge him with murder. The killing of the Afghan bomb maker happened in 2010.
So by the letter of the law, I’m wrong, but he never stopped being a combatant.
In my opinion this is the most important thing that Major Golsteyn said. I think Aus is right, he is not doing this for himself, he didn’t do something “dumb” he is doing this to retroactively change the rules of engagement that Obama made a death sentence for our military. the same rules of engagement which men are currently in my opinion currently incarcerated for breaking.
Major Golsteyn is trying to help his brothers who are wrongly imprisoned.
That are quite a few good men currently in prison for taking actions similar to Golsteyn’s action.
I agree that the TV interview is what caused the lap dogs to train their guns on Major Golsteyn and he would have been wise from his own temporal standpoint to not have granted an interview at all.
Technically an admission is not a confession as confession is a legal term in this matter.
There are too many version of the killing floating around for any of us to know exactly what happened. From my personal shoes I believe that Major Golsteyn believed that the bomb maker presented a clear and present danger and the killing was justified, if it takes going to war with the Justice System to get some things changed then God doubly bless the Major.
Unleash the dogs of war on the enemies of America.

This is not, unfortunately, unusual. Vietnam changed a lot of things about how the media presents the military, where the media shys from the same blatant yellow journalism it did then it still practices a lower key version.
The Pentagon folks are super bad-press shy, they’re politicians more than they are military. Also, though many won’t admit it, there’s a solid dislike amongst the more traditional combat arms brass for special operations people, used to be in the Army that command time spent in a special ops unit didn’t count towards the command time officers needed to punch their tickets for promotion – it was ‘dead’ time.
Army Special Forces are Army but are under a Joint Command, SOCOM, and get their orders from them They are, in war and peace, also loaned out to non-DoD government agencies for missions that DoD doesn’t really control…another piece of heartburn to the DoD bureaucrat/pols. Here they have troops they don’t really fell a lotta warm/fuzzy for, wearing their uniforms and not answering to them so they can take any opportunity, regardless of how small, to go after them.

This just really ticks me off! It’s war! The same entitled people living in a bubble who think normal weather and seasons are the climate change/end of the world because they feel cold or hot different from their climate controlled cars and homes, think war should not entail violence and killing. They are ignorant, delusional, and they are growing in numbers.

My friend and I were discussing climate change a while back. She said it must be getting hotter because she can hardly stand the heat now. And, sometimes in the summer it is 95* and 100*. We both grew up in Florida. I pointed out to her that it is about the same, we are just used to air conditioning now. And, she pointed out that she didn’t used to have air conditioning in her house. I pointed out back to her, that she worked in an air conditioned office and became conditioned to that. It made her start thinking a little different. And, we had hurricanes, tornadoes, high humidity, high heat, and t-storms.

My regular demeanor is very polite, but by beginning of February the 1st winter in NH I had had it! I landed up telling off people who would complain about the cold when it was 10-20* out and they had on no coat, just a light sweater or sweatshirt!!! Put on a winter coat or shut up!!!

LOL You might have a terrible time here in FL. Some natives start complaining when it drops below 70* and if it does get down in the 30’s and 40’s, they still won’t put a coat on because ………”it is too much trouble.”

Something I mentioned next door, thought I’d mention it here too.
Y’all remember how back in the Obama regime there was a move to make the fast food worker’s minimum wage a living wage at $15 an hour? Well many of us predicted that rather than suffer a future of $20 Big Macs and Whoppers the industry would push the adoption of automated food processing.
it’s here.
A major pizza chain announced last year that it was eliminating a goodly chunk of its staff and replacing them with machines but today I was watching a hi-tech expo online and the main theme was food prep/handling machines that can replace people. The displays ran the gamut from receipt/storage to automated prep to service, eliminating much of the staff at an eaterie. Soon I think we’ll see just about every position in your neighborhood fast food shop filled by machines. They don’t take breaks, don’t call in sick, don’t need benefits, their ‘medical’ coverage is deductible and they can be amortized. Win-win.
We are soon to have a native wave of displaced and up-and-coming skills-challenged whom we are going to have to support. Now we’re importing waves of low-to-no skills workers with a vanishing number of minimum wage/low skills jobs for them to take. I’m betting that many other of the low-skill jobs will start to disappear to automation as the benefits of using machines vice people start to really drive the train. Hello Rats singing the International and leading los pobres del mundo to the ramparts…being driven there by self-driving transport.

Yes, I think I read this a while ago on numbersusa? Just one more reason to stop not only illegal immigration, but all immigration for a while.
BTW, growing up, the mentally challenged men in my town had jobs in the summer sweeping the streets, picking up trash, and in the winter shoveling steps and sidewalks at the city buildings. They were NOT looked down upon. It was honorable and needed work. I wonder how many of the people you are talking about would do that type of work.

That was tried in my town in Utah back in the early n70s, folks on welfare were being told they had to do a few hours of civic work a week. That lasted about a month before they went to court and got that overturned.
Judge agreed that just because the taxpayer’s funding you that the requirement was somehow unconstitutional. Who knew?

HALLMARK CHRISTMAS “HORROR” STORIES
Exclusive: Patrice Lewis offers 1st-person evidence feminists’ shrieks about films are baseless
In interview after interview, viewers emphasize the wholesome content, the happy endings, the ability to watch the movies with family members ranging from young children to elderly grandparents. Kudos to Hallmark for providing such programming. But, predictably, not everyone is happy about the content of Hallmark.

It is nice to have something to watch with the elders & kids that won’t stop your heart when the villain suddenly rapes the good guy! I stopped trying to go to movies rated above PG with my mother, and mostly rented movies made before 1960 to watch with her. A steady diet of anything which shows one way of living and thinking is not my cup of tea, and I certainly was not raised with limitations on what I could be, just that I had to graduate college with something I could support myself doing. I say, leave Hallmark alone.

John Roberts Revenge…
SUPREME COURT REJECTS TRUMP PLEA TO ENFORCE ASYLUM BAN
Chief Justice John Roberts joined his 4 more liberal colleagues
Published: 37 mins ago
(Associated Press) A divided Supreme Court won’t let the Trump administration begin enforcing a ban on asylum for any immigrants who illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
Chief Justice John Roberts joined his four more liberal colleagues Friday in ruling against the administration in the very case in which President Donald Trump had derided the “Obama judge” who first blocked the asylum policy.
New Justice Brett Kavanaugh and three other conservative justices sided with the administration.
There were no opinions explaining either side’s votes.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
