The reason why fairy tales and myths have lasted through centuries and millennia is that their messages are IMPORTANT for us to hear and internalize. We bastardize, nullify, and/or drop-kick them to our peril.

Very good read! Especially liked the ending, referencing Poe’s stories. I read everything, including the orignial Grimm, the Russian Baba Yaga fairy tales, & pretty much every culture’s mythology and somehow turned out as a productive, taxpaying, happy citizen. The US changed when John Walsh’s son was murdered & the media influenced parents to become helicopters who managed & oversaw every aspect of children’s lives in fear.

Those fakes are also required to watch MIRACLE ON 34th STREET with Edmund Gwenn, Maureen O’Hara, John Payne and Natalie Wood…(here’s a clip–full copy not available on YT)
…plus A CHRISTMAS CAROL–either the 1951 version with Alastair Sim…

Hello All!
Been continuing to have medical problems, and in a fair amount of pain.
Found out since Dr Rea died, I have to go back to Dallas to continue to get meds I need. :-{ Nothing against Dallas (although the airport is huge & confusing), but flying is very, very difficult for someone with severe allergies and asthma. Dr Seymor & Dr McCarter are taking over Dr Rea’s practice for those of you familiar with the clinic.I will be going in a few weeks. PLEASE pray for me that the flights will be OK, and I won’t get sick. I truly need & appreciate your prayers.
It has been wonderfully sunny here most days lately, so that has been a real Blessing.
I wanted to do something both happy & for Christmas, so I found Christmas cakes with a religious theme for the next week:
If we needed a scientist, God would have sent one, If we needed physical health God would have sent a doctor, If we needed a political diplomat God would have sent one. We needed our souls to be healed and saved, so God sent our Savior. ~ (Adapted from a Christmas card from years ago I remember.)
Have a great day everyone.

I’ll be praying for your safety and healing! Go to the drugstore (or Walmart) and get some face masks. They really do help keep out the germs, and they aren’t very expensive. Flying is hazardous due to the recirculated air on the plane. It’s a bad mix of everyone’s germs. Don’t touch your nose and mouth, and wash your hands often with soap. I have problems with my health as well, so I sure do feel for you.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Thank You JTR! You just reminded me I needed to order the thin charcoal inserts I put inside the mask I wear when traveling. https://icanbreathe.com/ I use the silk mask and put the thin regular charcoal insert in it – it stays put. As far as the hand washing, I buy the textured individual alcohol wipes by the box when I travel – hahaha! Most soap is scented which causes an asthma attack and migraine, so I carefully wipe my hands with a textured alcohol wipe, then spray and rub with a small pump sprayer filled with grain alcohol I bring. So far it’s worked well. I also bring lots of tissues to open & close bathroom doors. I just read a study that the dirtiest place for people at the airport were the touch screens (for check in?) everybody touches, but no one washes!
Thank you for your prayers. I pray for your health as well. I think of you from your comments as a globe-trotting world traveler 😉

TOG&C, have you notified the airline that you have health issues? Ask for a wheel chair and assistant to get you to the departure area so you won’t be tired out trudging the distances at such a large airport.
Do you carry oxygen? If not, also inform the airline that you might need extra oxygen for your asthma.
Request a blanket to keep warm while inflight or bring your own to also put over your lap while in the wheel chair.
If you don’t want to go the wheel chair route, purchase a cane with a seat on it (available at Walmart) so you can sit rather than stand in line. I cannot stand in lines; so I use the wheel chair service which saves a great amount of needless body and psychological stress.

Hi Lucille 🙂
Thank you. How thoughtful of you.
Walking for me is OK. It’s the allergies that cause asthma, migraines and worse that are my problem. American Airlines (& I’m not sure about the others) no longer allow you to bring your own oxygen on board. I cannot use the pvc tubing on their oxygen, but will bring my own silicone tubing and mask I carry with me at all times.
I will bring up the cane with seat for dear hubby. His hip replacements have wonderfully allowed him to walk, but standing for a long time is a problem. There is no way he’ll do a wheelchair. We already had a “discussion” about reserving a place on the airport golf carts ahead of time.
I hope you are doing well, and enjoy your “travel” pictures 😉

The alcohol really dries my skin out. What do you suggest for that? I too have problems with some soaps and their additives.
LikeLiked by 2 people
I use Everclear grain alcohol from the liquor store in my spray bottle, and when home to make my own hand wipes. I tested it & it will kill moss/grass and chase away bugs as good as isopropyl or ethyl alcohol, but is not as drying.
I normally use Aveeno unscented moisturizer. When my hands get dry (Nov-Mar) I open a coq10 and vitamin e capsule, and mix them into to the cream in an empty cream jar I keep just for that. That will heal up cracks in a night or 2 of use. Just be aware coq10 is red so the mix will be peach, and it will be sticky, but it is worth it to get rid of open cracks. I also because of my condition have to put glycolic acid cream on my hands a couple of times a month (reviva brand), which helps get rid of cracks – I guess by getting rid of excess dry skin?
Dr Rea suggested Safecoat Safe Choice Shampoo and Body Wash. It is a concentrate I just add water to. I also am making my own by purchasing decyl glucoside sodium lauroyl lactylate ( a safer sudsing agent) from ‘MakingCosmetics com’. For me I think it needs a tiny bit of Kirks unscented castile soap added. Now I just have to test PH. The Kirks is too base for me to use as a soap bar by itself.
I hope this helps you. Let me know how it works out.

🙂 I have to smile at that because someone gave me an aloe vera plant once and it must be the only housplant I can grow. Within a few years I had 98 plants I had to give away before moving! I now get the bottled pure juice that people drink. I use it for as you said my skin in the summer. I’ll have to try it before applying the heavier oil based cream in the winter. Good idea! Thanks! 🙂

So sorry you’ve been feeling bad. I’ve kept you in my daily prayers. I’ll be praying for your safe travels, G & C! Sad to hear that Dr. Rea has passed. I’ll have to share that with my mother, I’m not sure she’s aware of it. She only goes there occasionally now for IV’s. I’m glad there are doctors who can take over for him, though, that’s wonderful.

Thank you for keeping me in your prayers Sand&Sea 🙂 I really appreciate it.
Your mom will have to be physically seen by either doctor Seymour or McCarter before getting any treatments there again. That should not be a problem for her though since you said she is not far away.
Dr Rea died in August. I did not know until end Sept when I called for a phone appointment with him. It was a surprise since he worked at a job he loved until the day he died. We should all be so lucky IMHO. In a way it was not a surprise because he was 83 YO.
I did not know until 2 weeks ago that I had to be seen in Dallas to get any further treatment. That night I popped out with that pesky chicken pox virus recurrance known as the dreaded shingles! That is how much I dread flying commercial. BTW DR McCarter suggested up to 3000 mg L Lysine, vit C and manuka honey (the real medical grade stuff). They really work wonders. I only take an aleve before bed, and I’m now sort of OK as long as I am VERY CAREFUL how I move. I just Thank God it is not on my face near my eyes!
Thanks again S&S.

Dr. Rea helped so many people. He had a gift. Truly a blessing for all those he helped. I’ll let mom know about needing to see those other doctors. Thank you for letting me know.
I’m so sorry you got shingles! That’s just miserable. I expect I’ll get it one of these days. Mom had it really bad about ten years ago, so I’m thinking it will happen to me as well.
Really good to know about the L-Lysine and Manuka honey remedy. Do you keep Tri-salts handy? So good for treating allergic reactions in a pinch.
Let us know when you get to Dallas! I hope everything goes smoothly for you! (((Hugs))) 😊
LikeLiked by 1 person
FYI for the shingles I take 500mg Vit c 3x/day for a total of 1500 and oil of oregano 230mg 1 or 2x/day as well as 1000mg llysie 3x/day = total 3000mg. I take the vit c (acid) and llysine (base) separated by a couple of hours minimum. The manuka can be applied to affected area and if you want eat 2 TB/day with cinnamon to cut sweetness if desired. Other than having had chicken pox, age, and physical stressors (I had episcleritis in my eye a few weeks before and hurt my side and back the week before (that is where shingles popped out) I don’t know what else causes it. You may not get it. Some people never do!
Thanks for reminding me about the tri-salts. There is a limit on amount of a powder you can bring on board now, but it is a small bottle.
I will email Stella the dates we will be down there. It is only for a week. DH has limited time available off of work this time of year. I hope to get allergy tested, nutrition rotation diet help, and vit c IV Friday before flight home. Sadly there is nowhere up here for vit c iv’s. They are an amazing help to me.
Thank you so much,
(((Hugs back to you)))

Thanks for the great info, G & C! I’ll write all that down, just in case. You have been through some challenging things lately, sweet friend, but you stay so positive and that’s a wonderful thing. Talked to mom last night about the new doctors. She had heard about Dr. Rea. She’s still really sad about it, because she’d been seeing him for over thirty years… he truly saved her life, but she was very appreciative about the suggestion of getting in with the new doctors, in case she needs an IV, and she plans on doing that. 😊

I was really touched by your Sunday post ending with:
“So when God commands that heaven ceases to be, then so will my joy cease to be. Now that doesn’t mean I’m always smiling, I’m not, I have very dark phases, but I am me, not the darkness, I am an observer of darkness not a slave to its insanity.
The darkness always passes. Always. Ultimately the darkness will be no more.

I think some of you might enjoy this story 🙂 . Last Friday I had the occasion to be at the physical therapist office. A little old couple came in, him with a cane, her with a walker. Both were slow, she more so than him, she was small and stout, he was tall and regal.
They approached the reception desk and took care of the simple formalities, at this point the woman who had to struggle to unbend her neck looked at the receptionist and said “Now is it Bernstān or Bernstīn?? The receptionist Miss Bernstein replied with a smile “Bernstīn”.
Without missing a beat this little old lady replied “Ok Bernie! which set she and her husband into a fit of giggles 😄.
Made my day.
I had the honor of chatting with them, he served in Vietnam. She was hilarious. Wonderful people.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.

SENATOR MARTHA MCSALLLY
It looks like Arizona will be represented in the Senate by both an aviator and a bloviator. The bloviator will be Kyrsten Sinema, the hippie-dippie elected by Arizona voters last month. The aviator will be Martha McSally a fighter pilot who lost to Sinema in the election.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey today named McSally to fill the seat Senator John Kyl will give up at the end of the year. Kyl had been appointed to fill the seat of John McCain. McSally’s appointment will run through 2020.
McSally isn’t as conservative as I would like, but that’s not my main concern. The focus needs to be on holding this seat in 2020. They key was to give the remaining two years of Kyl’s term to someone who could use that momentum to win the next election.
Is McSally an optimal appointment for that purpose? I’m not convinced. Her race against Sinema was not impressive. I thought Sinema outperformed her in their debate.
McSally ran miles behind Ducey, who won handily. The “aviator vs. bloviator” ad was excellent, but represented the high-water mark of her campaign as far as I can tell.
On the other hand, Gov. Ducey knows infinitely more about Arizona politics and players than I do. Let’s hope he made the right call.

Stella: Ordinarily I don’t post whole posts from someone else’s blog. After I posted this, I thought I’d better check to see if powerlineblog has a copyright notice. They don’t have one attached to each article by the various men, but they do have one in the “about” section at the very bottom.
Do you ever have any problems re an author asking you about copyrighted product placed in your comment section?

Clapton hand-picks the musicians. The festivals were every three years. There was supposed to be another one this year, but Eric threw in the towel, because has extreme arthritis in each hand. I hope he hands the mantle of the Crossroads Guitar Festival over to John Mayer, personally.
Here, we got John Mayer, Gary Clark, Jr., and Doyle Bramhall, AND Stevie Ray’s brother, Jimmie Vaughan — Spoiler alert: Mayer is the only one who NAILS IT.

Robert Cray was born on August 1, 1953, in Columbus, Georgia, while his father was stationed at Fort Benning. Cray’s musical beginnings go back to when he was a student at Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia. While there, he played in his first band, The One-Way Street.[6] His family eventually settled in the Tacoma, Washington, area.[2] There, he attended Lakes High School in Lakewood, Washington.
By the age of twenty, Cray had seen his heroes Albert Collins, Freddie King and Muddy Waters in concert and decided to form his own band; they began playing college towns on the West Coast.[3] In the late 1970s he lived inEugene, Oregon, where he formed the Robert Cray Band and collaborated with Curtis Salgado in the Cray-Hawks. In the 1978 film National Lampoon’s Animal House, Cray was the uncredited bassist in the house party band Otis Day and the Knights.[3]
