Some of you may know or remember our friend, and fellow admin at The Conservative Treehouse/Last Refuge, ytz4mee, as well as her husband, partyzantski. Both were frequent contributors at the Tree, and here at Stella’s Place for a while, and had their own blog, Stop Shouting!
Her younger daughter, Paige, is seriously ill, and urgently in need of surgery that will, perhaps, save her from paralysis.
Paige has been a first-class fencer, competing all over the world, and almost chosen for the Canadian Olympic team last time around.
To explain best, I’ll quote from the Go Fund Me page that was just launched by her sister:
Complex spinal neurosurgery needed for Paige
Many know my not-so-little-anymore sister Paige from the world of international fencing as a member of the Canadian National squad and Bonfire Crew at Texas A&M. What many don’t know is the serious medical issue she is currently facing as a young adult.
Paige has been experiencing back pain over several years that has been getting progressively worse. Without a concrete diagnosis, the pain sidelined her fencing dream of competing in the Olympics as doctors were unable find the source of the problem (until now). Most recently, when the ability to use her right leg became impacted, she was referred to a neurosurgeon who was able to diagnose the issue (finally!) and offer a treatment solution.
Paige has a mass that is growing inside her spinal column at L3-L4-L5 and creating pressure on the nerves in the area, which are losing function. Her surgeon has recommended a complex and delicate neurosurgery on her spinal column as soon as possible to return critical nerve function to her legs. Without this surgery, she is at a great risk of permanent paralysis. Her family and doctors are hoping that because of her age, her body will respond to the surgery well. Her surgery is scheduled for mid-December.

My heart goes out to Paige, ytz4mee, partyzantski, Rachelle and their extended family. Prayers are being said this moment for the success of Paige’s operation in December, and that hope remains steady in each heart.

I’m really having trouble getting my head around this. So many people are dealing with so many truly difficult things…..such a young girl.

Life often seems unfair and I know everything happens for a reason but it’s hard often to remember or understand that.
