Well, it was fun. But, a bit like going to NY City when it is floating on the ocean. 🙄

Phillipsburg, St. Marten; San Juan, PR; Labadee, Haiti. St. Marten was hit hard by Hurricane Irma. A woman who lives there said it was totally devastated. They didn’t really have anywhere to go. The only shelters were the churches, and they had metal roofs that blew off before the storm was even bad. She said they were so grateful to the Americans who came to their rescue. A ship arrived ASAP with food and supplies, and left with any Americans who were on the island, along with anyone who had a VISA to come to the States. The island is divided into a Dutch side and a French side. The Dutch sent help and took some people back to the Netherlands. I believe she said the French didn’t do anything. Interesting thing is, the Dutch side is much more advanced and nicer than the French side. Hm. For some reason.

PR is improving. Of course, the cities are doing better than the people in the country who still don’t have much. It is good that the ships still pull into ports to bring money into the areas.

My friend didn’t even want to get off in Haiti. She said it is too poor to enjoy. But, I was glad to see a lot of people going on the water excursions. Again, infusing the area with money.

The boat we were on was the Ocean of the Sea. It really is a beautiful boat.
