That’s sad. Hope he had people close by who loved him at the end.

Probably the first time I saw Burt on film was in RIVERBOAT which was a TV series starring Darren McGavin at the end of the 50s. Watched every episode just to see the adorable and sexy Burt. Alas, it was gone after one or two seasons…my girlfriends and I were upset about that. LOL!

As a general rule you can tell a lot about a famous person based upon the way he treats support staff in addition to the way he interacts with the executives to whom he is beholden. Any number of famous domestic and foreign politicos, actors, writers, musicians, sportsmen came visiting my bosses over the years. Some were polite but businesslike, others ignored the staff as though anyone other than the primary mark was unimportant. Then there were those who were in good humor and friendly, took time to say “hello” and converse a bit while they were waiting to see the guy who could actually do something for them and vice versa. Burt Reynolds was the latter.

He came through our rather crowded offices at Orion Pictures to finalize his appearance in the 1987 feature film MALONE (NOT a comedy, unfortunately, but a spy thing which went nowhere box office-wise). He smiled and joked with support staff and was just a pleasant fellow, both arriving at the office and departing. It was my only encounter with him but it’s lovely to remember him favorably besides recalling his fun performances on film and the talk show circuit where he could always be counted upon for laughs.

So many fond memories. R.I.P., Burt!

I was a fan. The earliest I can remember was on Gunsmoke. RIP Burt.

I loved “Smokey,” of course – who didn’t, but enjoyed Evening Shade much more. Pure Burt.

    R.I.P.

My favorite role of his was Judge Walter Burns in the 1999 film Mystery Alaska.
