The photos of their food looked awful. I always love good mexican food. My grandma was a very good cook, from north carolina, and I didnt get to spend time enough learning her tricks. I would love to try real southern food.

In our smallish Mississippi town we have soe real (and legal) Mexicans who’ve opened a restaurant. IOt’s the usual fare as that’s what the peopkle expect but every now and then they have a limited run of real stuff for select customers who like the genuine. When I come in the owner seves me a small plate of freshly grilled jalapenos that goes well with the meal. They make their own refried beans and cook them in real LARD!!!!!!!!!

I had a chicken and cheese stuffed battered and fried chile relleno once. It was a massive monster chile. Couldnt eat half and it was dee licious. I have never found another like it. Roasted fresh Anaheim chiles are yummy. Lots of places used canned or frozen uts why theyre slimy or mushy. If you go to a place that makes tortillas too then it’s even better.

My elderly aunt stopped in at a Mexican restaurant near where she lived that she had never gone to before. She asked for a taco. The woman seemed confused, but eventually came up with a simple taco. A couple of days later the place was raided by the police. It was just a front and they were selling drugs out of the restaurant. LOL She said she wondered why she never saw many cars there.

SMH.
I stopped in what I thought was a Mexican restaurant recently, from the outside it looked very Mexican, my friend and I kept planning on going but never had the same time slot available.
Anyhow I was really tired, I didn’t want a menu just a couple of cheese enchiladas, I asked the guy (only person in there and I assume the owner) if I could just get some cheese enchiladas to go.
He puffed up his chest and said, “This is not a Mexican restaurant, we are a Venezuelan establishment we serve no Mexican food.”
🙄
Now I’m tired, hungry and grumpy . So I look at the menu and order something it was supposed to be some type of chicken inside of a cornbread muffin. I also ordered a fresh papaya drink which was delicious. The corn muffin thing not so much.

Well, if Venezuelan food is different from Mexican, maybe the sign should say something.

‘Real’ southern food changes from place to place. Few think of Cajun or Creole as Southern food but it is. I’ve found a direct connection to many old British Isles foods in the southern Atlantic states and the Appalachians but I’m at the stage that I’ll scarf anything in a southern eaterie as long as it isn’t part of some chain.

I may be from CA, but I always thought both of those as southern. Cajun everything you can find here, but maybe not totally true. Creole not so much.

You’d be surprised at how many folks, food critics too, don’t think of Cajun and Creole as southern. Then again, post-Katrina, we got a lotta new ‘chefs’ in town that have brought unclassifiable cuisine into town. ‘Hey, y’all want some arugula with that gumbo?”

Oh yeah, we used to get free 3-piece chicken boxes at a well-known NIOLA-based eaterie when we were in uniform. One night we were eating some and noticed the meat next to the bone was rather red but fooled ourselves into thinking that it was just a sign the chicken had been frozen and thawed before cooking. Wasn’t long before we discovered the joys of salmonella. I’m still unsure if that was accidental or not.
There’s also a way of purging live oysters to kill the chances of contracting vibro but many eateries just buy the fresh sacks to keep the prices down. A fellow worker (NOT a friuend) went out on his 60th birthday for a party, ate raw oysters and got vibro – was dead a few days later.
I did details at NOLA restaurants and have seen what goes on in some kitchens and it ain’t pretty.

Our church has a craft bazaar every November.
Last year there was a booth with different items (honestly don’t even remember what they were) anyhow, a very cheerful, as in beaming choppers smiling lady bounded out of the booth and asked me and my daughter if we had a loved one who had died, because if we did and we had some of their clothing should could make a nifty memento for us for the price of some amount of dollars.
Now being with my daughter whose father had died, her father being my husband we were both taken aback by the cheerleader leaping out at us and just said yeah, no thanks.
A very surreal moment in my life. I have the feeling that her business may not be at the next bazaar 🙄.
The belt chair made me think of my mother in law and I wonder if she would like a chair made of my father in law’s belts as he passed away a little over a year ago.

This is a grave and awful sin they particpated in, making a mockery of the Body and Blood of Jesus. I am truly saddened and shocked.

We had a nun ( habit-less) of course give a chat at a local church in place of the homily when we first moved here and were in the process of picking a church.
I talked to her after mass and said why would you do that? The priest and parishioners (3 or 4 of them) chastised me for speaking up and said it was wrong of me to even suggest it was inappropriate they informed my ignorant self that she did not give a homily, she gave a chat .
I said adios I won’t be back.
All their noses were very out of joint.
I know it gets tiresome fighting battles on every front, but lately I have a new warrior spirit in me, I have given up on letting things stand without a challenge because a challenge will likely go nowhere, doesn’t matter, the truth needs to be spoken whenever and wherever it can be.

“It is understood Ms Madigan addressed the congregation from the altar, performing most elements of a normal Mass.
She did not read the Gospel or perform the consecration of the bread and wine, as these can only be carried out by a priest.
However, there was some pre-blessed bread in the church meaning Mass-goers were able to receive Communion. …”
That is NOT a Mass.
Wow considering the recent call by their ‘prime minister’ for more foreign people of color immigrant/refugees (of a different faith of course), my ancestors Ireland is gone.
It’s all demographics. There is an article around recently about there being more deaths of whites than births in the USA. White Christians have just as much right as any other group to survive and thrive.
BTW – Another topic – is the Trump administration saying or doing anything about the government of South Africa saying it’s going to kill the white farmers? They have a very high murder rate there of the white farmers.
LikeLiked by 3 people
The fact that she was allowed to step foot into the church, never mind past the alter rail, is amazing.
The deaths of whtes in all civilized countries exceeds birth rates and that’s been the case foir decades. Some see an engineered holocaust here, the push for smaller (white) families while encouraging the growth in non-whites.
Whites are too successful, too aggressive and violent, too disrespectful of the cultural and individual rights of others…back to that ‘too successful’ thing.
I hold to the theory that US and European social engineers, in the wake of WWII, saw the damages that centuries of European wars wrought and decided that Europeans in all of their iterations had to be brought into check, controlled and limited.
Since WWII we’ve seen Europe and the US not only bring the world into levels of civilization light years ahead of where we were a generation ago but a concerted effort to clamp down on white population growth looks to quash that.
Imagine if the white population decline ( https://en.metapedia.org/wiki/File:2013_Fertility_per_woman_world_map.jpg ) were effecting Africa – the UN and the guilt-ridden West would be launching massive studies and aid programs to cure the pending disaster. EWe’re just standing in the tracks, watching the onrushing train and not considering the possible ‘civilization’ to come.
The whites who stayed in SA are complicit in their own deaths, the murder and theft of properties by the new black government’s been going on since Day One and smart whites who feared for themselves and their families unassed the country long agfo. Those who stayed are heavily into denial, believing the races will join hands and sing kumbaya at some point.
Note that the UN has not addressed the issue of black SA’s murdering white SAs as it did when the reverse was in practice. That leaves me to think that the UN juuuuuust might have a dual standard.

Not sure who wrote the article but the Body of Christ is not called “pre-blessed bread” it is communion or consecrated host.
Some days many things annoy me other days I compartmentalize.

During a live shot in the next hour, Acosta decried the lack of civility by these Trump supporters and highlighted a woman who had heckled him. Responding to her calls for CNN to pack up and leave, he asserted like a true firefighter that “we are here to do our jobs.” 😂 😂 😂 😂

We had among us 3 large Czech beers, 2 medium Czech beers, 1 small Czech beer, 1 soft drink, 2 large appetizers to share (with bread), and 5 main courses (pork and dumplings, sauerkraut, etc.). All of this (with tip) cost $48.

I have tried many times to find a similar recipe or reference to the name online and never been able to find one like it.

Nope, that’s nothing like it. It has three kinds of flour, including rye and potato flours, caraway seeds and cheese on top of it. Also made with potato water and no oil or butter, which really made me nervous the first time I made it, but it is a rich and delicious bread. It is quite dense though.
My husband and sons always make sure it’s on the menu.

Maybe it is a family recipe and not common, but the young man said his grandmother prepared a traditional Czech meal for Christmas Eve.

Fro the length of time it takes to make, and the heavy, dense texture — is this a type of wholewheat sourdough rye (caraway seeds i) with coarsely grated cheese on top?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Here’s the recipe.
Longoushi (he was unsure of the spelling)
makes two large loaves
1.5 TBS granulated yeast
1.5 TBS kosher salt
1.5 TBS caraway seeds
1 cup rye flour
1 cup unbleached King Arthur white whole wheat flour (yes, the brand matters)
4 cups unbleached King Arthur white flour
1/2 cup potato flour
cheese to taste on top of risen loaves, your choice, I like cheddar best
Combine yeast, potato water, salt and caraway seeds. Let rest a few minutes, then add the flours (mix them together thoroughly first) without kneading, using a spoon or mixer with dough hook until well mixed. It is a sticky dough.
Place in large plastic tub with lid (not sealed) and allow to rest for 2 hours, or until dough rises, collapses and flattens on top. Then refrigerate for three hours.
When you want to bake, dust surface of refrigerated dough with flour and halve, place in lightly oiled bread pan, and let rest for several hours, when dough has risen. Recipe calls for a lidded bread pan, not sealed. I use foil over regular pans.
Bake in a preheated 450 degree oven after topping with shedded cheese of your choice. Cover pans and bake for 35 minutes or until brown and firm. I usually remove the foil the last five or ten minutes. If the bread has risen above the pan, I don’t worry about covering.
Allow to cool before slicing (that never works here.)

Hi! I asked a couple of Czech colleagues who bake and they think you are making one of many variations on rye/whole wheat bread — most of the recipes I found are for specialties in small regions and are just called Český chléb (Czech bread). No one has heard of a savory bread as you spelled; they also thought you meant a sweet Christmas bread like Stollen. There is a fried dough (topped with cheese, etc.) that you often see at fairs (Italians, for example, top it with tomato sauce and cheese) and in this part of Europe it’s called lángos. Sorry I couldn’t find the exact spelling of that for you!

I have a niece who moved to Poland. On their visit here her husband was all in. It was really fun to watch him shoot several firearms out on the small farm we had a party at. He even got to try the AR too.
He was here during the first part of the “let’s trash Confederate statues” movement so he boned up on the Confederacy as well. Really wonderful guy, he so loved America. His wife loves Poland as much as he loves America. She went there to teach English, declared she’d found her place, and stayed. Primarily because it is such a Catholic country.

The little twinkies forget that the petroleum products are used for far more than fuel. All of the plastics, much of the medicines, textiles and even the food we eat are a direct or one-off product of the industry. Also, the rest of the world sure wouldn’t instantly give up petroleum products and ooze back into the 19th century.

I watched a program (actually a series) about early 17th century English rural society (Stuart period). They explained how animal fat was more prized than animal flesh, because it was used for so much more than food in a time before petroleum products or vegetable oils were available in that part of the world.

Another thing I heard in the ‘Victorian Farm’ series (BBC) is that when you are working hard physical labor outdoors in an environment that is cold and wet, and you don’t have central heating, you crave things that you might turn your nose up at today. Think lard, head cheese, etc.

Friend of mine hiked the Pacific Crest trail from Mexico to Canada. At one point he came down to a mountain general store for supplies, and was about to check out when he felt he needed something else, but didn’t know what it was.
He found himself in front of the cooler staring at butter.
He bought a stick, and wound up eating the whole thing as he sat on the steps of the store.
Apparently he wasn’t getting enough fat in his hiking diet. 🙂

There will be little or nothing that we use, wear, eat that’s not connected to petroleum in some way, even if it’s just the oil/gasoline that trucks use to bring items to market. And look how many jobs are provided to people around the world because of petroleum. Those leftie ninnies who want to limit production to bare minimum are beyond psychological redemption.

As I said before, they’ll use every option and tatic available to them to delay until a more friendly administration orCon gress comes in.
Note the lack of enthusiasm by Congress to go after the Bureau tooth and nail. In an ideal world the Rats would be going afyrt thr Bureau for skirting the ideals of truth, justice and the American way…OK, foreign concepts to them, but still…..
The republicans should be a united front and screaming at the tops of their lungs from every venue about the illegal actions of what’s supposed to be America’s premier police force. Still too many crickets.
If the Rats prevail in 2020 I predict they’ll reward the Bureau by akkowing it to be the progressive’s armed front-force. They’ll announce a restructuring or shakje up, the Bureau will bang on some trash cans and throw some dust in the air but when all’s said and done and the public’s fickle interest has waned it will be the same gestapo-lite that Hoover envisioned.

Just saw this on lucianne.com in a thread about Republican staffers being armed:
My grand daughter and her husband were verbally assaulted at a church dinner of all places. They stayed to aggravate the hostess. Husband works for a Republican congressman.
Republicans think we are in a debate with socialist liberals. Liberals think it is a knife fight. Let us stop this before there is another Boston Massacre.

Also on lucianne.com thread:
In places like DC where it is almost impossible to get a CCP, a small can of pepper spray and an “Equalizer” in your pocket are a good idea.
An “Equalizer” is a very hard flat plastic self defense tool. It is shaped like the head of a cat and has two holes in it for your fingers. The tips of the cat’s “ears” are very sharp. I have one on my key ring and frequently wear it on my right hand when I’m walking around in public.
I bought mine at Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, VA – the range where hubby and I used to shoot before we left the state.
Never heard of an Equalizer before. The pepper spray is a good idea, for sure.

HOWEVER: check b4 U buy. Many jurisdictions rule these and their ilk as ‘brass knuckles’ and you can get into as much trouble, if not more, than your attacker. I’m a big fan of stronger pepper gas, 10% or more, and the stuff with the UV dye in it’s even better when it comes to positively IDing yoiur attacker. Problem here is that some jurisdictions restrict the strength of the pepper spray you can carry and some ban it completely.
OK, best bet’s to become a criminal, all the breaks are there.

Thus the prog agenda: disarm Americans, then attack them.

Note that the identification of Administration personnel is down to staffers. This appears to be an organized and planned assault on the entire Republican spectrum. Let’s see, if Rats get into power again, if they ram through a law making political harassment a Federal crime so the tables can’t be turned on them.

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2018/06/leave-my-husband-alone-mitch-mcconnells-wife-screams-as-angry-protesters-surround-mitch-mcconnells-vehicle-video/
Comment seen at lucianne.com:
Wow. I´ve had extensive dignitary protection training. I believe the Majority Leader is protected by the capitol police, and it looks like there was a detail there. Moving the protectee(s) safely to and from a vehicle is a critical task requiring detailed planning. With the courage of the female agent who held the line being the only exception, this incident was a major FAIL in my opinion.
In the current political climate, a protective detail should be “at defcon two” so to speak; anticipating an attack on high-level officials like these. Aggressive disruptors such as this should NEVER be able to get that close to the protectees.
I´m very concerned about the safety of key people in light of this video.
It was Elaine Chao and the female officer who handled things here.

I think what hurt us today was teachers and pot smokers. Many people voted that normally would not have voted because of how many teachers registered to vote and then all those who wanted medical pot legalized. That slippery slope passed and now they’re trying to get a state question legalizing all pot on the ballot.
In Oklahoma after tonight you can now legally grow and sell pot.
The biggest liberal of the bunch running for Republican governor got most of the votes, the next two aren’t much better. In my district the most liberal Republicans won the primary. Then although not my district the guy they chose to replace Bridenstine makes me want to puke. It was horrible all the way around.
