    U.S. Navy exercises in this region of the world are commonplace due to its geostrategic significance – i.e. Soviet/Russian ballistic missile submarines have traditionally lurked in this environment; using it as a potential covert underwater nuclear attack launch site against their American adversaries; it’s therefore imperative that the U.S. submarine fleet remain well versed in functioning in such conditions.

      I could have been there. USS Kentucky for me. SSBN 737. It was only doing sea trials when I was in Navy jail for AWOL. Still being built at General Dynamics, in fact, when I went and did that. I lived too close to my hippie friends in Boston and left work early one day, so I could party with them on my weekend leave. Master Chief Z entered my hotel room (the base was full) and caught me shaving and packing my bags. Oops.

      Somehow I got an Honorable. That boggles my mind to this day.

      During the Captains Mast, I remember the Master Chief saying to me, “J, you’ll never amount to anything.” We’ll see. I wish I could talk with the guy today, but he was quite old when I served under him without distinction, and is probably upstairs right now.

          The other day we just threw caution to the winds and pigged out on resh oysters. They were absolutely perfect, a bit on the small side (for local ones) but sweet and salty.
          Now it’s spring it’s time to bust out the grill and do some chicken on the barby. Yup, BBQ chicken fresh off with fritters/bread sounds good. Gotta see if I can make it this weekend.

              To us freshly opened oysters are a wonder, grilled oysters a close second.
              I did have a gent I worked with who contacted vibriosis at his 60th birtday party after eating fresh oysters but I’m on antibiotics for a sinus condition so I had no worries.
              While we lived in NOLA were were known as ‘the scourge of the bivalve’, we’d eat them wherever, whenever and in every manner of preparation. Our fav, if you’re ever landing at NOLA, is Drago’s in Metairie, right on the way into NOLA. They do an infamous grilled oyster that we eat by the credit card full. They’ve been imitated but never equaled.

                I know a guy who only ate raw shellfish one time – encouraged by his brother-in-law – and contracted hepatitis. I used to eat raw shellfish, but not any more.

                  We’ve both had our hep shots – our jobs required it. We did put of eating oysters for a year or so after Katrina out of caution of what/who might have been washed through their dining rooms but we were right back into the swing after we figured enough water had flushed over the beds and the oyster bars were open again.
                  Back in the 80s, before the coast down around Empire all disappeared, we’d go out shrimp/crab trawling and all we’d bring for lunch (except for the beer) was an oyster knife, some lemons and a bottle of pepper sauce. You could pull up to the shore, pick up some roots from the canal and pop some oysters off.

    Sorry I couldn’t resist posting, no offense to blondes. 🙂 I have a niece who is not blonde, but is dingy that this reminded me of.

    One winter morning while listening to the radio, Bob and his wife hear the announcer say, “We are going to have 4 to 6 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through.”

    Bob’s wife goes out and moves her car.

    A week later while they are eating breakfast, the radio announcer says, “We are expecting 6 to 8 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through.”

    Bob’s wife goes out and moves her car again.

    The next week they are having breakfast again, when the radio announcer says, “We are expecting 8 to 10 inches of snow today. You must park …” then the electric power goes out.

    Bob’s wife is very upset, and with a worried look on her face she says, “Honey, I don’t know what to do. Which side of the street do I need to park on so the plow can get through?”

    With the love and understanding in his voice like all men who are married to blondes exhibit, Bob says, “Why don’t you just leave it in the garage this time?”

        Sharon, update on Judy….she is now taking oral radiation at home and she has been staying isolated at home in hopes of avoiding the colds and flu that have been so prevalent since Christmas, but she is doing well. :0)

        Stupid men, I’ve met a few. We have some chickens, some call them naked necks, others call them turkens, basically they’re chickens without feathers on their necks. We had a guy come up here to buy pigs a year or two back and his boy around 10 asked what those were. I was joking with the kid and said, “they’re half chicken and half turkey.” The Dad who I thought at first was joking said, “That is so cool, you can go to school and tell all of your friends you saw a half chicken/half turkey.” Then I realized he was serious when he turned to me and said, “I’ve heard of those but never knew it was actually true. Can they reproduce or are they like mules.”
        I did my best to not laugh in his face and told him, “it’s a joke, they’re really a breed of chicken, all chicken no turkey.”

        Then we had to show him how to open his cage to put baby pigs in. We had to answer 101 questions about how to care for pigs and when you can butcher them and how do you get them to the butcher, if you have to take them in dead or alive. This was after on the phone he said he had raised pigs before.

        He gets ready to leave and I tell him he can turn around anywhere. He gets in in his truck and he starts it up and then sets there forever. We watched him for awhile wondering why he wasn’t moving and he rolls down the window and asks, “can I just back up or do I need to pull up and then back up?” My DH told him, “however you want to do it.” Then he asked him to help guide him so he didn’t hit anything. After all that and he’s pointing in the right direction he’s just sitting again and rolls down the window and asks, “which way do I go when I get to the end of the drive.” My DH tells him to turn left. We knew then why he got so lost and had to call us to come find him and lead him up here.

        I told my husband I didn’t want to ever hear about women drivers or women lacking a sense of direction ever again. lol

    From Judicial Watch…oh, boy…just the tip of that old iceberg, of course. These criminals need the cooperation of businesses, organizations and recipients. You recall that President Trump’s recent changing of the rules entails recipients getting a percent of food items from government surplus…and how that outraged so many organizations sooooo concerned that the poor will now eat POORLY. Aarrggghhhh!
