Would be nice to crawl into the WABAC machine, go back about 4 or five years ago and revisit all of those predictions tossed about next door about Assad’s fate, the ‘destruction’ of Assad’s chemical weapons, the Russian’s and Iran’s intervention and ISIS’s fate and see who was right. Then againI’m not seeing a lot of old faces from back then still posting.

So what’s happening with Syria? I know I could look it up but I’m really tired of research today.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, the Russians and Iranians are still using huge chemical weapons asttacks to mass murder some cities’ populations and the barrel bombs to blast hospitals into dust.
You remember those chem weapons, don’tcha? Yeah, the same ones the UN, Russians and Obama told were gone years ago. Of course they may be leftover old ones or Cold War stock brought in but veryone’s doing their best to bury the issue.
Iran through its proxy Hezzbollah is boots-on-ground there big time along with Shia volunteers from other countries and is holding ground cleared by Russian and US airstrikes while Israel is burnimng up the Syrian skies attacking (Iranian) positions in Syria it considers a threat. Looks like Russia will try to use Hezz and Hamas bodies as surrogates in trying to get the Golan back for Syria.
Meanwhile the question of how Turkey, Russia and Iran in Syria will play out is simmering on the back burner.

CAPABILITIES OF RUSSIA’S MOST POWERFUL FIGHTER SU 57 AND WHY ITS DEPLOYED IN SYRIA?

I’d commented on the 57 a few years back as it related to the joint India-Russian 5th generation fighter program.
Russia got a chunk of our stealth technology, allegedly, with the front end of the F-117 we lost in Yugoslavia in ’99 while the Chinese got the back end so the loss of the advantage we had with stealth was a ‘when’ waiting to happen.
It’s also important for the pilots to get used to the plane in combat and work on its handling parameters. If we go back a bit we can also see that Turkey and Israel have proven an irritant to Syria (Russia) with their air intrusions so why not give them a message that there’s a new boss in town that can outfly their F-16s and F-35s?

Hate to sound like a Hollywood script but, for reasons I can’r get into, they might not do all that much as for a particular war vgas you might not need a huge, dedicated facility.
Also, if they have the precursors of great purity and do not mix the sarin until it’s needed the shelf life is greatly increased. Extenders can also be added to increase the items’ shelf lives.
When we were getting Syria to cough up its storage sites they gave up some we didn’t even know about so with years of not being under insection they really could have built more.
As the sarin’s breing used on a static civilian targets and not in a military mission it doesn’t have to be particularly pure or stable, just has to work on mern, women and children already weakened by years of war.

I’d said time and time again that Russia would NOT leave Syria, it was and is vital to them. Latakia was their last naval base in the Med. Their last signals intelligence post in the Med was right close to Latakia and they had a presence at a military-capable airbase right close by too. If Syria fell their Black Sea fleet would have to cross through the Bosphorus and through the Dardanelles, with NATO controlling them, to reach the Med or return to home port as Sevastopol (remember that from recent history?). With Latakia the fleet that does away missions could stay in the Med and be ported there.
There was also the HUGE natural gas and petroleum pipeline network Russia and Gulf states were building to transport gas/oil to a HUGE facility Russia was building in Syria to process it and ship it all over the world. Russia was also planning on building in a very large gas liquifaction plant that would fill ships feeding LNG to South and Central America and other places. Lines going overland from there to Western Europe through Greece would supplement/replace lines going through old Bloc countries who were demanding more tax from Russian petro transiting their countries.
Russiavwasn’t going to lose the investments or potential profits and the US wasn’t going to push them as it could have led to a war.
The only was Assad was going to leave Syria was in a body bag and he was a known entity to the Russians so they were going to keep him as long as they were going to stay.
I said that Russia and Iran would enter as discrete ground forces too as Assad wasn;t able to win this on his own. Iran via the IRGC and HEZZ were there and I’m betting Russia had some sort of understanding with ISIS as there was Russian infrastructure right in ISIS areas but it didn’t seem to be bothered. Eventually circumstances pushed/were right for Russia to actv and they lowered the hammer and sickle big time on all anti-Assad forces as the US turned up the heat.

seems like I remember rumors that Saddam Hussein moved all his chemical weapons and bed stuff to Syria for hiding….if so, that stuff is still there.
LikeLiked by 2 people
And there were stories some were moved to the Bekaa Valley and that some were moved by a Russian team that moved in specifically to relocate them. Saddam also had a penchant for burying stuff so we mayu be finding his stuff looooong into the future.
The various war gasses have chemical fingerprints that could point towards their makers, or the precursor chemicals’ makers so there’s a question if the West really wanted to find them.
Most believe that Russia, and/or Bloc members under the direction of Russia, provided the precursors and equipment to make the gasses but by the time we confronted Saddam in ’90 the USSR was gone and Russia as a friend was back. No one wanted to embarrass Russia so it seems that we all bent over backwards to quietly let Russia clean up its mess.

seems like maybe George H.W. Bush might have supplied some chemicals stuff to Saddam to fight against Iran, and our deal was to rush in to Iraq and find the stuff with our stencils on them and get them destroyed real fast before the cat got out of the bag about what ole Georgie was up to then.

There was no shortage of Western businesses who supplied WMD supplies to Saddam – remember his nuclear reactor? – and the various governments’ turned blind eyes to the businesses doing it. Much of the WMD manufacturing items were on ‘prohibiyed’ lists but the receivers and suppliers streeeeeetched the items’ dual-use uses and the governments looked away.
I’m sure there are still WMDs out there somewhere, buried under the sand, and someone will trip over them someday.

Winter – when one’s fancy turns to spring….
Springtime in Montana’s Missouri River basin area brings thawing snow and mountain rain that feed the infamous Missouri River Gumbo….
if one is unaware of this unusual substance, let me tell you that it is grease x 1000, you cannot wash gumbo off a vehicle at a car wash, You cannot get gumbo off of shoes or out of clothes and a favorite saying is that you can stop & take a leak by the side of the road and you & your vehicle will be stuck for at least a week. I myself have spent numerous evenings sleeping in a vehicle because of gumbo and I admit, I’d rather drive twenty miles on a sheet of ice than drive one yard on Missouri River Gumbo…..Nasty stuff.
But… in the springtime, there appears the Gumbo Primrose blooming in amongst this unusual soil and it is the most beautifully fragile blossom one could think to behold.
Sweet mysteries of life. :0)

I was talking to a friend last night and she was telling me about her granddaughter’s school. It’s a rural school. A HS kid got on social media and said he was going to kill more kids than any of these other school shooters. Amazing thing happened, he was shortly identified, warrant issued for his IP address and he was arrested. The school will be on lock down for remainder of year, nobody in, parents or deliveries. If a parent needs to pick their child up early, they must call the school and their child will be taken to the office where they can be picked up after parent buzzes in.
Deliveries will be only be made after school hours.
Let’s continue though blaming the gun and watching all these snot nosed punks run around demanding banning guns instead of admitting how easily shootings can be prevented.

Morning everyone! 🙂
Here is today’s painting by a “new” artist George Innes. This is Morning, Tarpon Springs:
George Inness 1825 –1894 was a prominent American landscape painter. His father, a prosperous grocer, tried to make a grocer out of him, but the youth decided instead to become an artist. Self-taught at first, in 1839 he studied for several months with an itinerant painter. He he began painting seriously in 1841. In his teens Inness worked as a map engraver in New York City. During this time he attracted the attention of French landscape painter Regis Francois Gignoux, with whom he subsequently studied. Throughout the mid-1840s he also attended classes at the National Academy of Design, & studied the work of Hudson River School artists Cole & Durand. “If”, Inness later recalled thinking, “these two can be combined, I will try.” Inness’s style evolved through distinct stages over a prolific career that spanned more than forty years & 1,000 paintings. One of the most influential American artists of the nineteenth century, Inness was influenced, in turn, by the Old Masters, the Hudson River school, the Barbizon school, and, finally, the theology of Emanuel Swedenborg, whose spiritualism found expression in the work of Inness’s maturity. He had his first exhibition at the National Academy of Design in 1844, & opened his first studio in New York in 1848. Three trips abroad in the next twenty-five years brought him into contact with the work of many varied painters, & from these paintings he carried away those elements best suited to his personal vision of American landscapes.
His works consistently earned acclaim for their powerful, coordinated efforts to elicit depth of mood, atmosphere, & emotion. Within his own lifetime, art critics hailed Inness as one of America’s greatest artists. Often called “the father of American landscape painting,” he was neither pure realist nor impressionist. Although he disliked French Impressionism, he himself created an American form of Impressionism that is firmly rooted in naturalism. A master of light, color, & shadow, he became noted for creating highly ordered & complex scenes that often juxtaposed hazy or blurred elements with sharp & refined details to evoke an interweaving of both the physical & the spiritual nature of experience. Inness is best known for his mature works that not only exemplified the Tonalist movement but also displayed an original & uniquely American style. The theories of Emanuel Swedenborg made a deep & lasting impression on him; indeed, they became a major force in his intellectual life. Throughout a decade spent in rural surroundings, he sought to make his paintings convey the profound spiritual meaning he felt the landscape around him possessed. Upon his death, a public funeral for Inness was held at the National Academy of Design, & a memorial exhibition was conducted at the Fine Arts Building in New York City

“Iran: Women protesting against hijab to be charged with inciting prostitution, jailed for up to ten years”
February 27, 2018 by Robert Spencer
The idea behind the “inciting prostitution” charge is that it is women’s responsibility to prevent men from being tempted. If she takes off her hijab, she is inviting them to be tempted. And that’s tantamount to prostitution, in the Sharia-wracked minds of Khamenei and Rouhani.

1. The comment about lions not caring about what the sheep think is an important “tell”,
2. His proud photo with Hillary, and
3. His citizen anti-gun stance combined with having his men stand down which causes death.
He does believe we are the sheep and he is the lion. We are disposable tools to his Fabian Socialist agenda. He achieves:
1. Taking guns away from the populace which is historically necessary for tyrants to prevail.
2. Whipping up the mindless useless idiots into a emotional, UN-reasonable mob thereby getting rid of free speech.
Just my opinion.

Tonight for dinner I made a boneless chuckeye steak, cooked in an iron skillet.
I’ve never cooked this cut of meat before, at least not like a regular steak, but my shopper delivered it to me instead of the chuck roast I ordered (they credited it to my account, so it was free).
It is fairly tough, but tasty. I cooked it rare, and let it rest for a few minutes before cutting, and made mushrooms with onions, mustard, red wine and cream (delicious). I had some leftover beet greens and some asparagus.
All in all, it was a pretty good dinner.

In the 70s all us good little lefties were going to Judy Chicago exhibits. She was weird, but since she was one of “us” and had a metrosexual husband before they were the “in” thing, most of my female friends and I merely nodded our heads when listening to her glowing explanations of her work. Underneath, though, I thought she was a nut. This new British artist in the Chicago mold fits right in with the strange and depressing Hollywood scene.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
